Yes, it is voluntary of course, but it may have been necessary. I don't envy the position they're in, trying to pull off this hugely ambitious project on a modest budget, the completion of which have been dependent on more money than just that of the backers (and with money comes obligations).

Justice just implied that these cars are going to be early exclusives, not permanent exclusives. The same people that are pulling this money grab will surely sell these cars later to all the people that didn't buy the LCE, right? Of course they will.

As for the LCE specific series, that's another story. Perhaps those in the know can weigh in on that when details become available.

Sorry, but we (at WMD) aren't privy to the details of business negotiations between SMS and their partners. You have seen all the information we have and can share so far. A service only offered to GTP, BTW, since this place seems to be receptive to rationality most of the time :D

I would think that SMS did the best they could, which includes ensuring a sustainable business as well as releasing the best possible game.

Yes, I'm aware of that. Depending on how things develop from here, I think I'll probably wait for the inevitable and cheaper ''Complete'' Edition instead.

@HEF51 I've got to agree with you about the hype. I understand hyping car/track licensing but I did laugh when I saw it was pre-order info being hyped all weekend.

I also watched the Gamescom Trailer for Project Cars and loved it. Although, showing off the M1 and McLaren F1 in the trailer takes quite a large set of testes, considering SMS just announced you'll need to buy the limited edition to drive them.
 
So now Sony AND Bandai Namco are following the new horrible trend of giving us high-end cars right from the start in special editions/pre-order bonuses.

When will these publishers/developers realise that I hate this type of business model? (When you give out the highest-end cars right from the start of the game for 12-year olds to crash into immediately.)

Can we just have a company that doesn't whore out and realise that this type of practice is bull:censored: to begin with?

Oh, well that's a relief. I wonder, do you still have to pay in-game cash for cars and upgrades?

I'm still annoyed how they're taking cars out and making them exclusive to these limited editions, especially considering how backers have funded development of the game. It makes them feel a bit cheated, doesn't it?
 
when I pre ordered pcars a few weeks back I asked if there is a limited edition and was disappointed to hear there wasn't at that time so now to hear there is a limited edition available I'm very happy and if there is day 1 dlc that will be great . The standard edition is only $80ausd which is cheap so if I spend $40 on dlc over the life of the game then its still the same price as other titles at release ;)
 
What a pathetic, greedy piece of 🤬 company. No different from when they were under EA Games.
Not quite sure what is worse. The company doing this, or the idiots supporting such things.

I cant believe the way some people are carrying on about this! Pre order bonuses, limited edition's and dlc packs are a common part of the gaming world these days and its not going away. Why should sms be any different. After all they are a company trying to make money, that's what companies do believe it or not and if using pre order incentives get them some more pre release security then that's a great thing because they are more likely to increase the budget if the sales look more promising which is better for us the consumers because that means more content.

Because that would set them apart from everyone else and because what they are doing isn't fair on consumers. Also lack of information as well, is it a DLC for those who don't buy the Ltd version or pre-order or something else, we don't know.

the game isn't released for 3 months so there is plenty of time for more announcement's, there is more information about this title available than any other I can recall so to use the words " lack of information " is ridiculous!
this is set to be an amazing racing sim ! Why cant people be happy with that.

If we look to a very criticized game named Gran Turismo 6, we see that every DLC and extra content so far was free. Day 1 DLC that costs is not ok. If a game developer cant wait to see how good a game sells and want to milk people even before the game came out, they are damn greedy.

From EA you cant expect anything else and turn10 is no piece better (just look at that porsche DLC) but there are developers who are not that greedy.

As long as people willingly bend over and just accept it, why would they stop going in dry?

Yes, why should they differentiate themselves from other companies following the same pathetic business practices? It's also no newsflash that every company is trying to make money. Though as I've said earlier, this shady, poisonous pre-order culture is really taking the piss these days. The need to pre-sell games, to secure the final purchase with content that should've been in the vanilla game to begin with while also give publishers our trust when they've yet to earn it is getting tiresome and reeks of desperation - especially with new IPs.

With that said, the game does look fantastic and very promising, more so than anything else lately although I've yet to play it. I simply just want to make an informed purchase decision post-launch before I'm confident enough to throw hundreds of dollars at a new console and a game which I might or might not end up liking.

so should they just charge a premium price at launch then offer free dlc ? Would this be a fair way to offer the title ? Seeing how offering it at a lower price (30% cheaper than gt6) with the assumption that paid dlc will come at a later date ( paid dlc hasn't been announced) thus allowing less commited gamers a cheaper option by only paying for the release game? Why is it so bad to have a cheaper alternative ?
 
Entitled gamers just don't get it. SMS studios has put in their resources, their time, their expertise, to produce cars, tracks, features, etc, and now they get to decide how to sell it to us. Just because it's been produced doesn't mean we have a right to an all-inclusive standard edition of the game. Perhaps they feel that the tracks, game features, and 60 cars (just an example, not sure of total car count) is worth standard pricing, and all the cars after that are worth more. That's for them to decide. You now have a choice how you want to spend your money.

When you buy a new nightstand do you piss and moan that the nicer finish isn't included? The furniture company already produced that, why can't you have that included for free?

When you buy a 6 pack of beer do you whine that you can't have a 12 pack instead (I admit to this)? The beer company just has it sitting there, why can't you have it for free?

The truth is they've put their time and effort into producing the product, they can sell it however they please.

It's not about being entitled. It's about being intelligent enough to realise that this content that would've been part of the full game is being withheld so that SMS can make some more easy money. Go back some years, and this crap would not have been the case. Back then, games were released with all their content. No finished content held back to take advantage of the consumers.

Some of this content has been shown for months, and any rational person would have concluded that it was part of the finished product (it is, you just have to pay more to get it). As more and more idiots buy into this, we'll soon see games where the 2nd half of the single player campaign is released as day one DLC. Because hey, you can't expect to get that with the finished product. Expecting that just makes you entitled. Silly us to expect the full game in return of the full price.

At least there's no shortage of idiots for the companies to take advantage off. If there was, they might have to give people all the content they've paid for, instead of just some of it. And that would just be madness. It's not just the companies that are ruining the gaming industry. The people who let and support them are every bit as responsible for the way the industry is going.
 
as a wmd member i'm getting slightly annoyed by the attitude towards this LE edition. what you need understand is they have accomplished more than any other current racing game on a much smaller budget don't believe me look at the following article on games budgets found here

in my opinion they have more right than any one to charge for limited editions and dlc. as they do not have the budget to hand out free dlc like polyphony does.
i will finish with this:
the business model of this game cannot be compared to any other game due to the way it has been funded. because it has been crowd sourced. due to this the company has to be as efficient as possible otherwise the project would not work.
so please before you moan think of what they have achieved on the budget they were given.
 
Also we are entitled to moan, we're the consumers paying the bills of the developers.
It's not like they give us anything for free.
 
I think it is not the LE people are disappointed but more the fact that they hyped this for 3 days. We all expected something big, new racing series or something else.

You forgot one tiny detail. IT ISN'T DLC! It's finished content. It's content that has been fully modelled for months, with the physics having been worked on for months, and will continue to be worked on 'til it's done. Which should be before release, same as every other car. Don't call it DLC, when it's finished content.

i didn't say you weren't entitled to moan. but you as backer should have been aware that not every thing will be released on launch day. also think of what is being released in October November and December this year. they have no choice but to hold some back. if they don't they will lose momentum and player count will decline just look at gtao and forza as two examples
gtao didn't release anything new for a while post launch this quickly killed the player count.
where as turn 10 regularly inject more content into the game this keeps players interested for longer
 
Sele, I agree with people being irked about that. That's understandable.

For the entitled folks, do you want this developer to succeed? Do you want this game to be successful so they have a reason to produce a follow-up? The only way that happens if they can turn a profit. If that means they need to develop a pricing structure that brings in some extra cash, offer paid DLC down the road, etc, I'm all for it.

I want them to succeed, do you?

nothing is finished its still all in beta stages, with much of the dlc cars in a late alpha stage
