PS2 Controller or wheel

Oh boy, I had the GT3 Wheel, it was leaps and bounds more fun than the controller, I just found it challenging sometimes...

I'm too cheap :scared: to buy the GT4 wheel

I've only recently "joined the club" of DFP owners, but I'm loving it. I've gotten a lot more mileage out of the Toyota demo lately, let me tell you.. hehe. The control and steering is just so damn natural, it's amazing. Come GT4, I doubt I'll use the standard controller for driving at all.. probably just for Photo Mode and B-Spec races. Anytime I get behind the wheel, I'll be getting behind the wheel. :D

With GT3 and GT4 Prolouge a wheel made little difference. In fact the DS2 was faster, especially in Prolouge.

But, and I used to me a hardcore DS2 user.

If GT4 is anything like the final Japanese Gt4 demo, which I can't see why it wouldn't be, the DFP is far and above the better controller. I can't even get near my DFP times in that demo with the DS2. I think PD is finally moving the GT series to require a wheel.

Not that you won't be able to play GT4 with a controller, I probably will play most of it vs. the AI with one. If you plan on doing any OLR or hotlapping you will be left behind with a DS2, plain and simple. You won't stand a chance.

I have the Logitech DFP, but i do better times with the DS2. Since GT1 i play with DS2, now i have to practice a lot to beat my times.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

The wheel takes more time to learn how to use than the controller. The controller is alot easier to start of with, but less fun if you have the wheel. I recommend you save up to get the wheel and then you would see how great fun the DFP can be! :O

The DFP is just so much better then the DS2 IMHO that I can't even begin to fathom ever playing any type of racing game without it!

It is definitely worth the price! 👍 👍

It depends on how much you use the wheel, I suppose.. I've only had the DFP for about a week now, and earlier tonight I picked up the DS2 again. I'd gotten so used to using the wheel.. it was like I forgot how to drive. Slamming into walls, spinning through corners, the works. In other words, I suddenly suck royally with a DS2. And since I'd always end up coming back to the wheel anyway, I might as well stick with it.

I think the DFP is better.. There is a lot more control in steering, throttle control, and braking. I got the DFP for Xmas this year, and within a day I was beating my best times with the DS controller. It's easier to hit your lines, and maintain your lines in long sweeping corners. Controlling your braking and acceleration is a lot easier with the DFP. The DS controller is a lot more difficult to control the amount of gas and braking you're using....

The only thing that's harder with the wheel is drifting... I could easily initiate drifts with the DS controller... But with the wheel, it's a little more difficult... However, I've only been using it for about a week...

IF you have the money, and the space, I would go for the Wheel...

I´ve bought my dfp a week ago,and it´s better by far distance...
But more difficult to drive also...
it worths the price... 👍

Go with the new DFP wheel.
Start the game with nailing silvers and golds in the driving tests and you will have learnt sufficiently how to use the wheel and have a feel for all its lovely greatness in control and feedback then progress through the lower scale races, or do some free running to learn how to pick your lines, from then on in things will only get better.
The DS allows you to be more (too) loose with your playing style, but the DFP allows you to be much, much more precise and turn in consistant quality laps running sweet lines and youll remember every error something i dont find with DS use.
Trying to catch oversteer feedback when you get out of shape over a curb, a crest, bump or grass, is something that really needs to be experienced and makes it a whole lot harder than with a DS yet it feels about 100 times more satisfying.

Use, Enjoy and Never go back!

I hope i'm buying both Gt4 and the Driving Force Pro to get the most realistic experience , expecially driving those cars i've really tried in real life.
I don't think I'll ever drive a Pescarolo or an Escudo (and their steering wheels don't rotate 900° ... ) so I can't compare them with the real ones.
But the game includes some cars I've tried ,driving or being a passenger , so I'll need a device that makes me move my hands around the weel to go round a hairpin and has a separated stick to shift gears.
I could even use it on the PC and finally enjoy GrandPrixLegends.

The DFP sucks with GT3 and I refuse to use it. I'm just hoping it will be better with GT4.

Trust me it is...I feel the same way about it as you do with GT3 but with GT4 it is really needed!

it works well in 200(180) mode. As others have said over and over and over and over and over and over and over again 900 MODE WAS NOT MADE FOR GRAN TURISMO 3!!!

Interesting! I have no problems with it in GT3 and have done better with it (DFP) then w/the DS2!

Any wheel in general with GT3 sorta sucked IMO. Plus the DS2 was almost always faster, even against someone who learned to drive with a wheel. It isn't the case with GT4.

I think that's because GT3 was still made in the days when a wheel controller was a real luxury. The game was designed around the DS2, with the wheel thrown in as an afterthought. With GT4, it's the other way 'round.. the game was designed to use the DFP as the primary controller. And boy, does it show.. I've just got that measly Toyota demo, but that thing's a joy to drive with the DFP compared to GT3. In GT3, it was like you were fighting the car 'round the track.. and if you could get it to point in the right direction, so much the better. But with GT4.. it's just so damn natural, it's fantastic. :)

And you'll be amazed at how well your replays improve.. hehe. Gone are the days of the "tap-tap" steering adjustment to the analog stick. Everything is nice and smooth... Which also means faster laps. The extra finesse gives you an insane amount of control over the racing line.

I use the Driving Force Pro wheel for Prologue. I've tried using the DS2 a few times for Prologue, and thewre's a clear difference. The DFP allows more precise and accurate control of the car, and you can drive a lot more smoothly.

If you liked the wheel feel/support in prolouge, wait until you try GT4. it is lightyears better.

What do u guys with cars in real life think of the DFP then? Is it realistic?
It's fantastic for some games and mediocre with others. With Richard Burns Rally it could almost be a direct replacement for real driving but for GT3 it's not worth the extra trouble.

I found the DFP alot harder to use with GT3, but I decided to redo the liscence test with it to practice for GT4. So far I'm likeing the wheel alot more, my times are still slower but I'm having more fun.

yeah, i've found that if you configure the detection to 540 degrees using dxtweak2, and then make ingame setups where the steering lock to lock is 540, it works near perfectly. My motions with the steering wheel are almost identicle to WRC photage. 👍

When you're driving at mindboggling speeds though, like on that video of the Sauber round the Nurb, isn't the wheel gonna make it really difficult to control? I haven't used a wheel since about 3 years ago, and that was a really poor one, so I'm undecided about using wheels rather than controllers.
