I have a UK PS2 with a modchip installed, sorry forget the name now but I can check it out later if required. Suffice to say it's not a messiah or magic though.
GT4 chinese version booted up 1st time, GT4 demo booted up 1st time as does my original Japenese copy of GT4.
If Sony, PD and god knows who else stopped screwing us around by forcing us to wait for new games some 2 months after they are released in Japan, China...... then I wouldn't bloody well have one installed would I? And then no bloody Caterham or 2P garage. NO 💡 💡 💡

Rant over :)

Mr_Doria
Does anyone knows if the Japanese game would work on a PAL PS2 with a MAGIC2 installed in it? I heard that magic2 modchips arent compatible with DVD9 games... do u know something bout that? :yuck:

-Doria-

Mr. P got owned by a Magic3 chip - I bet you're screwed with your Magic2.... Sorry..

the ppl at the place where i get my burned games are workin on getting it to work. takin longer than the thought. the dual layer thing makes it harder i guess

hallo
i have a modded PS2 messaiha playstaion 2 model 30004R

PLEASE HELP ME :)

I was really scared when I heard that GT4 doesn't work on some older PS2's. Well I have a SCPH-30004 with a Messiah 2 chip and my Japanese GT4 import works just fine.

I have a Sniper 2 chip it is 2 years old do you think it will work ?

I have the Limited Edition Silver PS2, UK model, messiah 2 chip, works 100% fine with the jpn original. The only reason i would ever consider burning a copy is to save wear & tear on my precious import disk :)

After trying to load the game on some of my friend's machines i found:

Messiah 2 chips = works.

DMS4 = works.

Magic 2,3 = no good.

SwapMagic = no good.

I recently installed a DMS4 Lite and it works. Except I think the chip's bad since I've been having weird problems with it. At least I can get it to work and play though!

I'd like to add that I finally recieved my GT4 today and the on my supposed Magic 3 chip (could be a magic two or a fake one)?? and Version 7 ps2 it is a NO GO : (. So now I'll get a new mod chip, looking at a DUO 2 can anyone confirm this one works?

Phantom, thanks for the confirmation on that chip but here it's 3 times the price of the Duo 2 SE so if the Duo could get me out of this region mess I'm in it would be the first choice, just have to find someone with a Duo 2 and GT4, if no one can confirm the Duo2 then I'll have to order the DMS4

the ppl at the place where i get my burned games....

Not sure if that was the brightest thing to say. Importing games is one thing, pirating them is a little different. And mentioning it on these forums is very much against the Terms of Service that you agreed to when you registered here.

I have a version4 ps2 (the GT3 package) with a Messiah mod (not Messiah2 , the very first messiah modchip that came out).

After much trouble, I finally got it working. I had to use a cd lense cleaner cd to clean the laser in my ps2 to finally make it work. Also, for an odd reason, the game only loads if I have my ps2 in the vertical position.

nicefrog, i can confirmed that duo2se chip will work with gt4 for any vps2, gtplanet member yesterdaylight has duo2se and it plays fine on his ps2 which is v4 no gap, so i orderd myself one and i am just waiting for it to come now so i can finally play this game

I have a Japanese PS2 (I bought in 2003 Christmas together with GT4P as part of the racing pack) which was modded (modchip name not known). I will have to check the actual model number.

I have been able to load and play GT4, but sometimes it has trouble loading when first switched on. The remedy is just to boot the console again.

Also I have not been able to go back to Arcade mode from GT mode once I started saving on my memory card. The clock hand which turns (while loading) will go from black to red after a while and nothing happens. This sort of tallies with the notion that Arcade is on the other layer of the disc and that PS2's laser reader (if modded) has trouble jumping layers.

Not a big deal to me personally since I am not a huge fan of Arcade mode.

I use the swap disks and so far there isnt a single game I havent been able to play, backed up, pal, Japanese. Everything works. GT4P pal, GT4p, japGT4 Japanese demo. So im not too worried yet at all and my PS2 is one of the very first ones that came out. Very Very old. 👍 And if I have a problem with mine then I will play it on my girlfriends new PS2.

It will NOT work. I tried it with swap magic 2.0 just to see, and just like everyone said, nothing. All you'll get is a black screen. Only reason you haven't encountered anything that didn't work is because DVD9 games are pretty rare. There's only a handful that are DVD9, so you probalby haven't run into those. Yet.

I bought the exact same PS2 (Winter Racing Edition, right? Ceramic white PS2 and controller with GT4: P?)

Just checked the number and it is SCPH-55000 GT.

I heard talk of GT4 not even working on Japanese PS2s, and was worried for a second (I don't know why), but that was for older models.

My PS2 is non modded (I don't have the heart to open it up and stick a chip in. I want it to stay original. Besides, If I'm gonna chip a PS2, I'd do it to an American one since the American ones are $150 U.S., while the Japanese PS2s are $269 U.S.)

That is the one. I just looked at my PS2... yep, SCPH-55000 GT. The one I bought are those which were modded by the retailer before sale in HKG.

The laser thing doesn't surprise me. This is my second PS2. The first one I bought in mid-2001 in Australia had laser jam right out of the box. :ill:

I have a SCPH-30004 PAL and my mod... i don't know the name but is very old, i need a swap disc to play a NTSC game.

A japanese GT4 can run on my PS2??

Thnx!

yep the DUO2SE works like a charm. never had any trouble loading anything up. I do think, however, david_86, that your setup may not work... no one has got it to work with swap magic yet, and unless you swap disk is a dvd9, it won't work for you. i may be wrong, but if you have a solderless chip/swap combo it's not likely that it will play DVD9's. :(
