o.o Am I the only one who uses the joysticks on the controller for throttle/brake? I know some people have complained that they're too close together, but I find that they're quite comfortable.

I use them as well, they work well for me.

same here i use the joysticks and i consider them the best to use for racing games.
Well The ps2 controller is by far the best in my list but the Xbox 360 doesnt look too bad as for the ps3 one it looks like some sex toy or something, were the developers high when they came up with the idea?

yea... the joystick also has a better response (in GT3 :D ), cuz if look at the front of the car, and turn the wheels using the analog, you'll see they turn much quicker than when using the button

yes, but he was refering to the analog stick being used for throttle and brake control. I don't use the analog sticks for that job. i find the buttons are much quicker, and i'm less clumsy with them. it all comes down to how comfortable you are with the setup you choose. I'm good at adjusting the pressure on the buttons and whatnot, so there is no real lack of control in my case.

I respect your choice, but man do the buttons hurt my finger after a while. put too much strength on i cant really feel the sensetivity. when i used to play GT1 i didnt know you could use the joystick and i always wondered how they kept the speed in one precise place now in GT3 i discovered it and found out it was in GT1 or two :dunce: cant remember :scared:

I never used a controller, so I can't judge. Even with PS1 and GT2, I used a steering wheel. Although it wasn't really compatible and as good as the DFP right now, I still used it. I never owned another platform and played only GT series and WCR.

Why does everybody find the ps3 controller so ugly

Because they don't like cheese.

No actually it's because they're accustomed to the DS2, no other reason IMO.

I for one think it looks good and it's time for change, but the comfort factor will ultimately tell me weather or not I buy 3rd party for comfort.

"Does anyone have any new news on whether the PS3 controller will change?" Nope, but personally I'm doubting it will. After all, the pics have all been released and shown to the world and stuff. In spite of many people's shocked receptions, I think they will keep it that same boomerang look. However, I'm also thinking now that it just might be right comfy. More to grip, ya know? But we shall see... ;)

And if it does change, it should be just some details. And I still not convinced this pad is comfy, it looks horrible to hold on. I hope Sony proves me wrong.

i love my ds2. i think the ds2 took the snes shape and made it even better and thats why it did so good.
(first guy in guiness draught commercial) "i took this snes controller and put 2 more shoulder buttons, 2 sticks, and these little nubs so you can hold it better." "i call it the ds2."
(second guy in guiness draught commercial) "brilliant!!"

(first guy in guiness draught commercial) "i took a ds2 and made it look like 2 bananas were glued on it."
(second guy) "brilliant!!"
(first guy) "and if they dont like the way it looks it doubles as a boomerang."
(2nd) "brilliant!!"
(1st) "brilliant!!"

It looks to me as though you'll really need to strech your thums over to reach the sticks, and that with the length of the "handles" your thumb joint will rub against them. Obviously I haven't used one yet, but this is just the impression I get from the picture. I think it will be worse for people like me with small hands.
But I think the feel of it will be the most important thing. If it feels great to use, and is easy to use, who cares about how it looks?

Well, unless it's the XBox controller. My friends tell me that's great to use, pity I've seen smaller houses though eh... :)

Well , I guess however ugly it looks Sony probably have done their homework and it may be very comfortable to use despite looking like its gonna make your hands bleed!

Even if it does flop.......they make do something like xbox did and make the smaller controller.....but they wont wana mess it up first time.....

P.s. Yeah the design is final, Sony has confirmed that........but they did say with slight modifications (maybe buttons)......but the basic shape will stay.....

I think the ps3 controllers are just for show rite now. There is no way thats what they are going to look like.

Well, that's not what other people are saying.

The design of the PS3 pad is final !

PS3 is pretty close to release, and I'd be very surprised if they changed the design so late. The deisgn would have been finalised many months before the first shots ever went out... :)

I think the analogue sticks need dimples in them like the xbox pad, the ds2 analogue sticks never felt good to me, I only saw the potential of analogue once I used the xbox pad

Anyone else here like the Saturn pad? i used the 3D pad once and it was dodgy but great for playing Nights :D

as for on the list, Gamcube pads are teh S3x

ahhh... i use the buttons for gas and brake. that way i can brake while my thumb is still on the gas, pressing them both at once, cuz sometimes all i need is a slight touch on the brake to take a corner right...

i know pressing the brake and the gas at the same time sounds weird (whats that word i'm looking for :ouch: ) ; almost like left foot braking.

plus with the buttons i find it easier to go around a corner at one steady speed, cuz i can keep the rpm at one level, can't really explain right now... i'm bad at explaining stuff

Hey People Long time no see (for few who remember me lol) anyways I reckon the all round best controller is the ps2 pad mainly cause all the other controller pads start to make your hand ache after awhile I found it the best for driving aswell the xbox pad and the dreamcast pad I reckon are really good for first person shooters and finally the super nintendo pad and the sega saturn pads are best for 2D fighting games. Thats the best way I can put it

I am not the biggest fan of the pS3 controller. But got me thinking what do you the fine folks at gtplanet think is the best game controller every used for a console. Personally i think it was the ps2, i felt it was well thought out.
And i really think the controller is an essential part of a game console without it being comfortable you can't have fun.

Edit: if i missed any pics of console controllers please post them on my behalf 💡 tanx.

you must remember that the PS3 controller is a prototype. I have read in magazines that talked to Sony Reps at E3 about it, they asked the Reps if it would be the final controller and the Reps started laughing and said no it was just a prototype. 👍
