Recently I got the red light of death and I hadnt made a recent backup of my data (whole PS3) anyway.

What Im really after is my game data like cash and level for gt5. Is there a way to re-sync from the server?

There are ways to make your ps3 alive.
Just google red light of dead, and you will find many info about it.
It can't make ps3 brand new, but will give you time to backup all data.

Dismantle the old PS3, heat up motherboard with heat gun.
When old PS3 is up and running, buy new PS3 slim and use the syncronization tool.

I went through that a few weeks ago, when I had YLOD.

By the way, my old PS3 is still running, the heat treatment was quite effective!

Easy money and Level boost to about 15 or so for a new game.

First car, buy the Kei car from the Used car dealership. Less than cr12k.
Spend what you have left and tune it.
Run the Kei seasonal. Gold will give you plenty of exp and plenty of money to buy a Ferrari 360 Scuderia.
Use Scuderia to run Le Sarthe in Ferrari seasonals.
Loads of XP and cash for very little effort.

Your red light might not be that bad.

Playstation Plus (free after the outage) allows to safe on the server, you can restore from there if you did a safe before. I try to do it regularly.

Do you have any safe? You can just transfer a game safe on USB to a new machine when you use the same username.

BSpecGrinding might help if you need to restart, you get level and money so you can cut the initial low level work in A-Spec.

I got YLOD last night and had my ps3 running 1 hour afterwards, follow the online guides. Be very careful tho! Then transfer your data as this will probably happen again sometime. Iv ordered new ps3 just glad i could fix the old one so i didnt have to start the game again!

There are companies that can fix your PS3 by ways of a professional reflow that won't hurt your system like the methods on youtube. Just check google, yellowpages.com and craigslist. They even have warranties. This happened to me about four months ago and I was worried about my save data and having to buy a new PS3. I took it to a place and $40 and an hour later it was done. My PS3 is running strong and even better than before. Considering the alternatives of buying a new one or sending to Sony, paying $150, and losing everything, I am very pleased to have everything back to normal.

Yeah I got YOLD and I sent it to a guy that would fix it and he got it done and I have it all well and running EVEN after 24H races and NO LOST DATA.
