Where can you buy a $10 HDMI cable? The cheapest I'm finding is $30, from Walmart.

I don't know. I just used it as an example. Seriously, any HDMI cable will work. There's no need to pay a lot for one.

But, I had the need. Again, foot and paw traffic plus my PS3 will be about 12 feet away from my HDTV set so I needed a good 4m cable, and that is what I found at Parts Express.com.

EDIT: In fact, I use this HDMI cable with my DirecTV H20 high-def receiver. I paid $12, but now they're $15.

Like I said in the other thread, if you can afford an HDTV with an HDMI port, a PS3, and some games, I'm sure you can hold out for another $20-$30 bucks...seriously.

But Jeremy the PS3 titles cost £50 on Play.com, which will mean PS3 titles would cost £60 RRP.

No one knows what the titles will cost, and whatever "play.com" has up, is only their estimation of what they will cost, not the actual price.

You can expect the RRP to be £50 just like the 360. Play.com is only "guessing" and if they over price, then they'll play it safe.

A lot of people swear by Monoprice that they are an excellent cable for a cheap price. Can you beat $6 for a HDMI cable that works well? I don't think so.

Do NOT complain about Sony not including a HDMI cable with the PS3. Pocket change can purchase one.

well, remember my post about insider info on the PS3 coming from GC?

i was reserching, and the guy (scrivener) already got 8 things right:

1. Resistance size
2. Resistance sound
3. Resistance weapons
4. PSP entertainment pack(exact spec, game, movie, mem card)
5. 700,000 machines for the us (later disclosed by Kaz)
6. Gran Turismo HD being a real game
7. Virtual Tennis looking better on PS3 than 360 because of textures. (he said sports game not VT3 but many believe this is the one since most people that have seen it say the textures in PS3 looked better)
8. Lair playable at TGS

that´s good news. he´s either a very good guesser, or really is giving us good info:) some of those things he posted way before they were news, like the resistence size and the PSP pack, so i want to believe in the other promisses, which are:

* New play demo of Heavenly Sword to look amazing with more gore.
* Lair demo at TGS to be amazing looking.
* Killzone finally shown at TGS and it looks like the target video.
* Oblivion with better textures
* PSP emulator coming october (yay!)
* SquareEnix one of the first being approached for games on PS1 emulator.
* PSP many first party PS1 titles will be available
* PSP and PS3 new store opens where you can buy movies, games, music around November 11
* PSP is an output device for PS3 (use the PSP as a TV and remote, WOW! would be amazing hopefully there is no lag)
* Reintroduce UMD to the masses with lower price and more features
* Online service absolutely 100% free… no tiers, no subscription. like having Xbox Live Gold,
* Multiple online IDs (not just one gamertag), friends lists, rankings and skill-based auto-matchmaking, full online profiles, EyeToy and EyeToy HD integration (photo profiles, possibly video chat).
* Full featured web browser and the PS3 will have native Keyboard and Mouse support
* 3rd party developers (EA, UbiSoft) have already announced their pricing schemes for next-gen games. PS3 games will generally cost the same as Xbox 360 titles
* On a later post he also mentioned that Square might announce another Final Fantasy Game for the PS3 at the Tokyo Game Show. Could this be the Final Fantasy 7 remake ???

we shall see...

in other news, i ran into this and start to think:

"Well the MEDIA is known to twist things... And hey they like twisting things about ps3... and making wii look better as QJ just did at the end of the article ill explain why later, Ok well wii was supposedly to get most of the developers attention ACCORDING to the media, But you go to gamespot click ps3 and go to all games the number there is 191 games in development, now go to wii and all games and you get 91 or so games.... Whos getting the most developer attention there???, Also every single bit of bad news and bad rumors about the ps3 is always widespread by the media, where as wii's rumors are stated but as false or just never stated, The media is trying to make PS3 look bad when they know it isnt.

And there was some QJ biassness in this article at the end where it said is it a problem to have games on more than one disc well yeah it does if you look at oblivion which is a free roam game, your going to have to stick the textures on a different disc and the files required to start the game in with it!, So bassicly when you wanna move to the other side of the in game world your going to be required to CHANGE DISCS see how it works.... and when you have to go back you have to change discs again!, Yeah more than one disc on a linear game can work but it wont work for everything it can work on pgr3 etc etc but hey thats where microsoft has its own weak point for massive damage.... And nintendo basing a console on a remote, Kinda experimental dont ya think? what if people dont like the control... you know casuals not fanboys... nintendo truly are taking the biggest risk not sony... blu ray for games CAN NOT FAIL! more space for games etc it cant fail....."

obviously a guy defending PS3, but what i was thinking was: what´s up with all this negative press and media biased trying to make the wii as a savior for games in general?

your thoughts?

We haven't seen Lair for a while, hopefully it'll turn out to be a good looking one. Killzone...:dopey: I totally forget about this game, Of course, It would be great if Killzone is shown at TGS, but I really doubt this will happen:nervous:

EDIT: PS3 EU spot: http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2185

That ain't new. It's the videos at the new European PS3 website that's been up for a while. Link to it in the first post.

Oooh... I just came across some bad news we all feared from the start...

06/09/2006 06:40 Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Announces New March 2007 date for European Launch of PLAYSTATION 3

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Announces New March 2007 date for European Launch of PLAYSTATION 3
No change in launch date for Japan and North America

London, Wednesday 6 September 2006 – Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced that it would revise the launch date of its PLAYSTATION® 3 computer entertainment system in the PAL territories of Europe, Russia, Middle East, Africa and Australasia from 17th November 2006, as previously announced to March 2007.

Launch dates for Japan and North America will remain the same, which are November 11th and November 17th respectively.
The revision of the launch date in the SCEE territories is caused by the delay in the mass production schedule of the blue laser diode within the Sony Group, thus affecting the timely procurement of key components to be utilised in PLAYSTATION 3.

The previously announced PLAYSTATION 3 shipment forecast of 6 million units globally within the fiscal year ending 2007 is not changed.

The website seems to be on the verge of meltdown right now, I can't even access the main page. Sorry, friends across the pond if this is true.

Well, as the games are region-free I'm sure importing one wouldn't be too much of a problem, if possible at all. Though, I'm sure there will be extra costs to consider and probably no warranty...

warranty is no problem, you get one. I also have one for 2nd japanese 360, contacted MS before I bought it.
I also consider importing one from Japan, but think of this : They ship 100.000 PS3 to a Playstation crazy country with a 20.000.000 + people fanbase...
So, if anybody thinks you'll get it for 600 EUR, yeah sure ;)... I remember it from the PS2 launch, I got my PS2 from Japan in the beginning and I payed 650 EUR for it.
So I say, if for example Playasia get their hands on several PS3's, then they will cost at least 800 EUR I'd say. Add shipping costs ( 90 EUR ) and taxes / depends, 20% here in Germany : another 175 EUR... so you end up with a solid 1000 EUR ( 1100+ USD ) without even a game... So that means : 400 EUR or a Wii with 4 pads and 3 games or a 360 premium with 1 game just to have the machine three months earlier... if you then consider the fact that the launch lineup is not really spectacular I don't think it is worth the massive extra costs...

warranty is no problem, you get one.
Oh, that's ok, then. I just remember wanting to import a White PSP from Japan a while back, and they said that there will be no warranty on the console whatsoever if you do (from www.lik-sang.com). This put me off completely.

And yeah, the costs will be ridiculous, so it's worth waiting that little bit longer. More decent games will probably be out by that time anyway. :)

Well, MS told me, that European(German) consoles have a 2 year warranty, Japanese consoles 1 year and US consoles 3 months... there might be a small differenc ethough. While MS has an absolutly perfect customer service, which is centralized, Sony is a different case. But from the legal aspect there should be no difference, it probably takes a little more effort and time to get your console replaced. Before spending such an huge amount of money, I would call Sony first though, just to be on the safe side. Concerning Liksang, well they don't replace your console, that is probably Hong Kong law ( I wouldn't give a warrenty on many Chinese electronic products aswell ;) ), But there is a worldwide warrenty by the company (Sony)...

I wouldnt mind buying a PS3 in asia the warranty would be there and seeing as I go there every year for holiday if anything went wrong I can take it back... it would be good to get it around the start of next year compared to march... plus it would be cheaper over there.

Are u serious ? Cheaper ? Maybe in August 2007, certainly not in the first few months. The shortages will be extreme and those who wnat one have to pay !

No, it will be for a start without the 17.5% VAT and individual shops will be competeing for business so that would effect the price (I would buy it from an individual store, not a chain)... Yes it will be expensive but still cheaper than the most expensive price in the UK when it comes out because in march it will be the same situation were people will pay top dollar, unless the retail price comes down between the Japan launch and the EU launch..... which I doubt it will.

I bought my PS2 in asia a week after launch in Japan and there were shortages but I was still able to get hold of one!..... and that wasnt even in Japan!..... actually most shops I saw had 2 or 3 for sale.

A lot of people around my place aren't prepared for the actual price of the PS3.

In canada it will be...

550$ for the 20GB: tx (550X0.145)+550=629$~CND

650$ for the 60GB: Tx (650X0.145)+650= 750$~CND

Remember this is the price for the PS3 without any Software & Cables dols with the PS3 isn't announced yet.

If there's a shortage...

Please be patient.

The PS3 will come with cables.

Sony's logic makes sense. ANyone who owns an HDTV and a PS2 more than likely already has component cables, and since they are all backwards compatible, it makes no sense for Sony to pack them in, especially if the majority of it's users will still have an SDTV for a few more years.

Uuuuuuuuuu...

But is the PS2 component cable compatiable with the PS3? For example, the Premiuim 360 came with a component and composite cable which was needed as the Xbox cable can not be used with the 360. I certainly can't plug a standard component cable into my PS2, it needs a PS2 Component lead. If the PS3 can use the PS2 cable then fine. If not Sony should do what Microsoft did at least. I would'nt want to pay £25+ for a cable. Luckily I have a HDMI cable so as long as I get the 60GB PS3 I've no worries.

The PS1 & PS2 use the same input. From the pics, it seem to be compatible.

The PS2 cable will work with the PS3.

It is compatible, and if they did what MS did, offering a hybrid cable, then they will be offering up interference as the MS cable did, lowering the quality of the signal (most noticably colors).

Ahh, cool. Then I'll have a choice. :)
Can't say I've noticed too much interference on my 360 using the supplied component cable and this is on a 46" screen. But then I've tried no other cable so I would'nt know the differnce. Supposedly the VGA connection is best. I'll have to get the cable and see.
