In other words, it's the main menu for the PS3/PSP, the one that contains the Game, Network, PSN, Friends, Music, Video, Pictures, Settings and users.

Edit: T'reed...

From,
Chris.

I transfered them on a thumbdrive. I know I can change their names by doing what you said. Its over 1200 pictures though so doing it that way would be rather time consuming.
How did you transfer yours? Thanks
I have done it through a USB thumb drive, I have done it via a memory card, I have done it over Media Sharing, and I have even pulled them straight from a digital camera.

Do they all actually have names on your PC or have you named them all on there? Did you check that the names were the same on your USB drive? How is your USB drive formatted? Some file formats may have a limit to filename sizes so something like "Mom eating chicken at KFC" and "Mom Eating Chicken at Popeyes" will become "Mom Eat~001" and "Mom Eat~002"
or something similar.

Or if it came form your digital camera it could have odd tags on them.

Madden 08? 07? I have 07 on my Wii and it locks up and after some looking I found it was a common glitch across systems.

Honestly, seeing how little effort EA puts into Madden as a whole and then the even less effort they put into porting multiplatformers to the PS3 I am guessing this is a Madden issue.

Yeah it is '08. I agree, right now it seems most believable that it is Madden and not the PS3. Always nice to get community feedback though.

Has anyone been able to get that Windows Media Player 11 feature for sharing files working? My PS3 keeps giving me error messages, and also says some videos are not supported data even though they're all .avi files...:odd:

Yes, it works fine.

Some types of .avi files aren't supported though.
Well, I would call fine a relative term, but it gets the basic job done.

One thing to remember is that just because a file has an extension does not mean it is the same as another file with the same extension. The real trick is the codec used. That is what is truly important.

Now, if you can get a copy of Nero or something similar they won't only host but they will also transcode on the fly so you no longer receive those pesky "data not supported" errors. I use Nero and have it put all my audio files into MP3, my videos all in MPG2, and all my photos in JPG. I would transcode to MP4 for video, but you have to buy the Ultimate Version to get that license.

I tried it again with the thumb drive and it worked like a charm, so who knows what I did wrong the first time. Thanks for the help though.

Small problem here, well I hope its small. I got a new tv recently, a nice panasonic viera, and hooked the PS3 up to it with a HDMI cable. All was fine as soon as I switched it on the PS3 told me it had changed to suit the unbeleaveable picture. So that was great no messing round with settings. But heres the problem when I went to switch back to the normal tv I use it did not dumb down the picture quality so now i have no picture at all.
Is there a way to fix this rather than having to hook it back up to the panasonic and change the settings.

For those hoping for custom soundtracks on the new update (whenever it hits)...I wouldn't keep your hopes up.

It might happen, but I'm not holding my breath. I think we'll get basic functionality before anything else (i.e. voice chat and friends list).

I am really hoping for the custom soundtrack, the day I can play Call of Duty 4 online, to Lamb of God is.. well a very good day.
Um, the PS3 has allowed customizable soundtracks to be used on the developer's end for a while now. As evidence Sony themselves are doing it with Wipeout HD.
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/27/wipeout-hd-to-support-customizable-soundtracks/

article
The ability to create customized soundtracks is a criminally underused feature in many games, as players are forced to turn down the volume and crank up the stereo just so they can tackle their boss of choice to the musical styling of their favorite 80s hair band. It's not too much to ask, and apparently Sony agrees, with the upcoming WipEout HD for the PS3 now confirmed to support fully customized soundtracks. Taking a page from the recently released Wipeout Pulse for the PSP, the upcoming racer will sport a handful of what we're sure will turn out to be suitably electronic tracks, though if you're in the mood for -- let's just say Barry Manilow – that's entirely your choice.

Now if you are looking for pure in-game XMB, well that is a wait. But I think Sony got the message as they had T-shirts at GDC that said, "In-shirt XMB"

For now though, if you want it in a specific game you need to complain to said game's developer.

Other news: Reports of actual game integration for Home are out.
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/29/sony-reveals-home-integration-for-resistance-uncharted-warhawk/

Worried that game integration with Playstation Home will just be trophies, trailers and t-shirts? Well, so were we, actually. Luckily, Kotaku's learned some interesting details about the Home integration of Warhawk, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and Resistance: Fall of Man. Turns out its way cooler than we thought.

Warhawk will reportedly allow up to eight players to meet in a "war room" prior to a match, mapping out strategies on "sand table" replicas of each level. Once they're ready to go, players can jump right into an online Warhawk match from the Home interface. A nice touch, indeed.

Resistance and Uncharted, meanwhile, will give Home users access to full unpopulated levels from the games, allowing players to casually walk through battlefields with their Home avatars. In addition to this killer feature, Resistance will allow players to explore unseen portions of the game, and locate radio transmissions that further explain the storyline. Uncharted will feature a Contra-style 2D shooter that launches from Home. Consider us floored. We can't wait to see these features in action.

I am kind of pumped about the Warhawk strategy mapping and the free bonus mini-game for Uncharted. Plus the ability to explore levels will help a lot when I get stuck. A little less trial and error and a bit more strategery should end any frustrations.

Of course this leaves a big question mark for my favorite game, Gran Turismo. I don't see PD as one to let these action adventure games take the glory. Perhaps a small GT1/GT2 style mini-game? How about a saved replay diagnostics thing so you can see where you are losing time?

I am sure there will be something better than just trophies and a room to join your friends in-game.

Also, I finally started playing Pixel Junk Monsters this weekend. Do I just suck or is it that hard? It took me about 4 tries to get past Stage 2 on Easy and after a couple of shots at Stage 3 (the one where you only have the gold you start with) I quit. I am sure it is more a matter of me just learning the intricacies of the game, but dang! I felt good about myself when I got through the demo a couple of times and got perfects, but then it was as if I suddenly turned stupid. Ah well, maybe some learning and looking into what each monster's weakness is. I caught on that the spiders have a weakness to arrows more so than cannons.

My only complaint is that research doesn't carry over between stages. It seems to be a theme on PSN games (I'm looking at you Blast Factor).

Oh well, the old-style gameplay made me decide to go play Crash Bandicoot until I had beaten 25% of the game.

And for PSP owners, you owe it to yourself to try out the Patapon demo.

I had heard about that, that Sony already has the firmware to support custom soundtracks but that developers aren't using it. That is kindof annoying, when 360 users can just pull up their menu and chose a playlist on any game.

Well, it can be done two ways from a developer standpoint.

1) The XBox way where their base code must meet some standard to allow it to be accessed by the OS to turn off the game music and play the user supplied music.

2) The PS3/PC way where the developer optionally creates the game to access the HDD and allow the user to select his/her music.

Now each sway has its ups and downs.

1) Every user gets this option in every game. Great for the user from a customizable standpoint.

Developers have to work to a certain system whether from porting or whatever. But like it or not the devs are forced and I am sure that affects licensing. Why pay for in-game music at all?

And while by now it is probably not an issue I imagine that at one point in time it caused instability as the OS was basically hacking the game. No wonder Microsoft is the first to implement this standard.

2) Not every game has it so users are more often than not stuck with in-game music, which many times sucks.

Developers have a choice and so it may or may not be a hassle for them to include it. Not including it may help with licensing music.

This way is the most stable as it is an integral part of the game itself, not some hole allowing the OS to take over.

My big thing with customizable soundtracks is where it will leave the guys that have made careers writing music for video games.

Personally, I prefer original scores for games. Think about the music in Mario, Zelda, Halo, all the games with amazing original scores. If the industry gets some cheesy pop songs licensed for cheap and then gives us a customizable option what happens to the music that we associate with games?

So, I can live without customizable music, but only if you give me something that isn't mainstrem licensed music. If yo0u are just going to load me up with something like System of a Down or whatever then, yeah, give me customized.

I agree, many great franchises have amazing original musical scores, the one that comes to mind for me is Shadow of the Colossus, I thought their score was one of the best ever in a video-game. And although I like some metal (namely Lamb of God) I don't like nu-metal bands like SOAD or KoRn etc... and I do also enjoy listening to classical music so I can appreciate what good music is.

The reason I said the Lamb of God point in my earlier post is that it gets me really pumped up for almost anything, so an online FPS would be even more enjoyable.

But I can see where you are coming from, and like you said, many games just license bad soundtracks whereas others create an original score, the later being my preferred.

sorry to go off topic, but i'm having a hard time pairing and using my bluetooth headset with the ps3 without anything wrong happening to the console. first time i used it, pairing wasn't such an issue, but when i used it while playing a game, i sometimes can't hear the conversation, but that's probably the headset, it's not like that with my cellphone though. and then most of the time i would lose connection to the internet (only while utilizing the headset). i reformatted the ps3 yesterday because it started to freeze while i use the headset, but now it can't connect to the (the headset) ps3. it's a jabra dt2040 brand. has anyone had this experience before ?

First off, I'm going to assume that you mean a Jabra BT2040. I recently purchased a BT2040 from Target for $20, it paired quickly, and worked fine (a co-worker also bought one and had the same results). A few days after I bought it, BestBuy had a BT125 (regualr $40 for $25) so I returned the 2040 and picked up the 215. If you have that as an option, I highly recommend it, as it's well worth the extra (in my case) $5.

Back to the task at hand. I'd suggest pairing it again. Go through the whole process, as it only takes a few minutes. One time while my co-worker and I were playing the headset stop working. I turned it off and back on and it was fine again. Your issue might be as simple as that.

Don't get me wrong, I am far from hating metal. I am sure my various Korn, Metallica, Rob/White Zombie, and other CDs and music files will attest to that. But sometimes I feel like they gave me a list of music that all sounds the same and I can't tell the difference.

For example: Motorstorm. I love hard rock/alternative. Nirvana is my all-time favorite band (not to be confused with my thinking Zeppelin is the all-time best band), but the entire soundtrack sounded the exact same. It was like they said, hey here's Nirvana and a list of alternative bands that all attempt to sound like them. I'm sorry but we have a whole decade devoted to Nirvana wannabes (90's) and I don't need a game soundtrack to do it.

For my driving games I actually have a playlist on my iPod I use for driving. I creatively call it "Driving." When I have a driving game with a bad soundtrack I turn it down and either just go with engine noise or put my iPod in my Boss iPod system on the Driving playlist.

Side note: My Driving playlist contains the entire GT2 soundtrack.

Speaking of, I like how GT4 did their playlist. We got a ton of different stuff and had the option to customize those to fit our tastes. But as I played GT4 so much even those all got old.

I am hoping GT5 allows customizable soundtracks. Imagine your saved replay with your song of choice, then you upload it.

Anyway, games need to put effort into soundtracks or just let me use my own music.

Occasionally my headset (Jabra BT125, came with Warhawk) will go out while playing and a simple push of the button brings it back. That could be all you have to do.

But you could have a router issue. I can't remember what it was that you had to do, but I found it on the ps3forums.com, but there is a setup in a Linksys router that is suggested for getting voice communications to work properly. Some people had to do it, some didn't. I did it just in case. But that has been a few months.

You may want to search through some of the ps3forums to see if anyone else has had your problem.

 I was just in the Playstation forums in the PS3 updates thread, and I found this.

In the brittish language a comma "," usually means something is said seperatly, he doesnt mention anywhere that there coming together a comma means there seperate.

(This was trying to tell off a person about something about In game XMB and their grammar)

(Cookie points if someone finds what I'm laughing about, and it's not the spelling)
From,
Chris.

Besides the complete lack of punctuation and what he does have is wrong?

i'd call it being a postwhore.
FoolKiller: yeah i think i might try that out. i wouldn't mind buying another one just for the ps3, and yes it is the bt2040, but yeah like i said i wouldn't mind getting another one since the one i have now, i got it for free from my cellphone company from all the points i have accumulated on my fido card.

In my experience some Scots call it British in place of English when referring to language. I'll leave you to judge if he understand what a comma is or not!

 There seems to be a slight problem!..... MGS4 has already maxed out Blu Ray!

If this is the case (assuming the game is dual layer) then there is a major problem if we are already hitting the roof when it comes to blu ray, it seems more likely to me that its a single layer disc and they dont want to add the extra of of a dual layer disc to get everything on...

Yeah voice overs are not really that important but still, I thought the idea of Blu Ray was it was 'limitless'...

Last week closed out with news that many a PlayStation 3 gamer was eagerly awaiting to hear: Konami and Kojima Studios will fire off Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on June 12. In addition to early access to the Metal Gear Online April beta test, the publisher also revealed that those who preorder the game will receive a bevy of extras, including a bonus DVD that includes a prologue that recaps the series' intricate and winding story, a 20th anniversary retrospective, character bios, and trailers for Guns of the Patriots.

While the release date is surely good news, the weekly Kojima Productions Report podcast delivered a bit of an unsavory tidbit for Japanese-language purists living abroad. Responding to a fan's question of whether or not there would be Japanese audio in the North American and European versions of MGS4, assistant producer Ryan Payton said, "Unfortunately, because of disc space, we don't have the space to include the other languages--the other voice-over files--for the respective versions. So the Japanese version won't have English VO, and the NA and Euro versions won't have Japanese VO."

Payton's sentiments echo Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima's own in a recent interview the gaming legend did with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. In the interview, Kojima noted that he still isn't satisfied with the game's visual quality, but because of capacity constraints, the team had to make certain compromises to get the entire game to fit on Sony's Blu-ray Disc. Whereas traditional double-layered DVDs max out at 8.5GB, dual-layered Blu-ray discs accommodate a spacious 50GB worth of data. However, single-layered Blu-ray discs are only 25GB a side--and noone from Kojima Productions has revealed what size MGS4 actually is.

Well, from day one Kojima has refused to use any kind of compression for audio and video so he can get the best quality possible. So, we may actually find a huge data game that isn't some massively epic story.

I think that he thought with Blu-Ray he could go the no compression route and get his OCD fix, but he was wrong.

My biggest fear is load times, or will we be looking at an hour long install?
