lol not happening
If you didn't know, way back in December, my PS3's CD drive lens got fried which caused it to not be able to read any games anymore. It was still under warranty so I sent it to Sony to get fixed. They fixed that problem and I got it back 3 months after i sent it up for repairs(big sister's fault for not sending it back down earlier, not Sony's). It worked perfectly fine, then a week later when the software update 2.70 released, I updated to it the day after it released. The next day(saturday i think), it happened. The whole screen is all mixed up and clusters of white pixels mess up the entire screen, the sound gets messed up as well but usually just goes and I am forced to restart. I thought it was just a minor error and did not take it seriously. But over time it started to happen alot more and now its really geting on my nerves. I don't know what to do now. Is it the software update or the PS3 visual processor?

PLEASE HELP ME

holy crap. that sounds like you have a slight problem my friend. well i dont know how that happened but try contcting sony again. thier customer service is top notch 👍

What I'd do is reset the PS3 to factory settings. This is the bestthing you could do.

It's a scary thought I know, but I have read somewhere (of questionable authenticity) that Sony are continuisly repairing PS3s, exchange the HDs and send you a ready repaired one instead of your own - I'm not sure if this happens though.

I have called three times in the last week, and each time they told me that all they could do was report the problem, and didn't have a fix for me. I think their 2.70 update is buggy. More and more people are having problems.

I did that already, and it still freezes.

Please do not post speculation in a manner than suggests it is fact, it does nothing at all to help people, quite the opposite.

Just because two events occur within a similar time frame does not mean that they are linked.

Simply because an update is carried out and a PS3 then fails does not automatically mean the update caused the problem, and until a definite trend of failures linked to 2.70 is visible (and two weeks after it went live this would be all over the web), then please stop suggesting that is the case.

Last year we had 13 PS3 updates, if (as you are suggesting) any issue within 2 weeks of an update was caused by the update, then they caused 26 weeks worth of problems and quite frankly Sony would have a class-action lawsuit filed against they about it.

To date only one update caused known issues (2.40) and that was pulled the same day it was released, that's how quickly firmware issues will come to light. Not over two weeks later.

To the OP it sounds like an issue with the GPU (this has occurred on a few other peoples PS3's), post up some pictures, but most importantly contact Sony ASAP.

I would like to point out that I did say that I "think" it is buggy.

I didn't say it "is" buggy. ;)

Yep and it was all going quite well, until you then added....

More and more people are having problems.

....which moved it on a bit.

However none of this is likely to help the OP, who does appear to have an issue with the GPU chip in his PS3. If that is the case it could in no way be linked to an update.

I would look at the physical layer first, what I mean is, check your cable and rule that out.

If you are using a HDMI cable, I would try a different one just to make sure.

If the second cable is still doing it, try a different port on the TV.

If it's still doing it, try to hook the PS3 using component cables and analog audio RCA cables.

What I'm trying to have you rule out is a bad cable or bad connection at the TV.

Have you tried these things? Good luck to you.

I don't use a HDMI cable, I use the regular one. This has only started happening after the software update and my cable has never given trouble before. It happens at completely random times.

There is a menu to rebuild your database and reinstall the firmware.

It will allow you to reset back to the factory settings. I suggest backing up your hard drive first though.

it says the hard disk database will be rebuilt, should i do it?

Have you backed up your hard drive, or care if you lose all the info? If you have everything backed up or don't care if you lose anything then go for it.

When they did the firmware update that added this menu (2.6?) it actually did a databse rebuild and I lost nothing, but I suggest you be prepared to have the hard drive wiped if you do anything in that menu.

i think the ps3 is an 80 gb but the old 80gb motor storm bundle

i did the database rebuild and after about 45 mins of gt5p it froze again. im going for the format ps3 system option now.

I am guessing that the database rebuild is just a file orgnization thing to fix any recurrence of the missing data issue that 2.4 caused. If it didn't require any kind of data back up or firmware to be reinstalled it woudln't be resetting anything.

But always start with the easier things before going for the full system wipe.

PJ-FFl just don't double post please. If you have something to say within the time span of a couple of minutes between your last post, use the edit button. Please.

Oh well, forget it. Some PS3 models are not affected by the 2.70 update.

Some?

Which models are you claiming are affected by the 2.70 update and where did you get that information?

As Scaff already mentioned there are millions of each model of PS3... if there was really a problem with this or any update most of us would know about it.

There are over 20 million PS3s... even if just 1% experienced some kind of problem that would account for over 200,000 PS3s... if 99% are not having a problem then I seriously doubt it has anything to to do with the update, but rather the reasonable odds that a small fraction of any consumer electronic device is going to experience a problem.

Huh, have you tried a different TV?

Just trying to rule out other hardware issues.

reset the PS3 to factory setting/format - but I'd say don't back up your HD as there might be something weird on it that's causing the PS3 to go funny. If you reset the PS3 to factory settings and it doesn't come good, I'd say send it back again - and I'd say fix it soon, because of recent possible release dates for GT5, you don't want to be caught out in the cold 👍
