According to a tweet by Sony, they've announced a price drop at Gamescom. Which...isn't the Vita gonna be $249? So...you can either buy a 160GB PS3 or a PS Vita...hmmm....tough choice.
Value for entertainment really. (Man I need to upgrade from my old 40 gig phat, but then I could buy a VITA for the same price. Hmm. tough one eh?)
Hello PlayStation Nation,
I have some exciting news to share with you today. As many of you know, it has been nearly five years since the PS3 first came to the U.S. market with its built in Blu-ray player, integrated hard-drive, built-in wireless, and unmatched hi-def gaming. Today, more than 50 million PS3s have been sold worldwide, more than 2,495 Blu-ray titles are available and the PS3s expansive portfolio of games and video content on PlayStation Network exceeds 60,000 titles.
While others in the space are losing steam, PlayStation 3 is gaining momentum and giving gamers everywhere more of what they want: an unparalleled line-up of exclusive games and access to the best in sports, movies and TV, all at a great value.
Today, I believe that value becomes even more evident. Im excited to share with you that effective immediately at retailers throughout North America, the 160 GB PS3 and the 320GB PS3 are now available for $249 and $299, respectively. In addition, a limited edition inFAMOUS 2 bundle is now available at participating retailers across North America. The bundle retails for $299 and includes a 320 GB PlayStation 3, a copy of inFAMOUS 2 and a 30-day membership to PlayStation Plus.
I'm pretty sure no one in this thread thinks this. Why are you guys thinking you have to get a new PS3 just to have a larger HD

I need to upgrade my PS3.

RTSolvalouAustralian retailers, don't think that we don't know about this.
Personally, I think the expensive-handheld-gaming-device scene is kinda dead, They may sell well initially but I think it will struggle long term, a bit sega saturnesque.
Ya just look at the 3DS already an $80 price drop in only 5 and a half months.
Yeah, try again. There are reasons other than upgrading the hard drive to upgrade your PS3 to a newer model. Especially when you have the CECHG model with its comparably large power usage and arguably spotty reliability.

You know, Ive got a 2nd Gen CECHE (80GB) PS3 that is now about 4yrs old and runs like a champ (knock on wood)...with no signs of anything weird. Take care of them and they last forever. Instead of going and spending the $ now, personally I would just go get a thumb drive and back your saved files. That way if it does take a dump...your safe. If it doesnt, then you have the spare $ for the next gen system.Yeah, I don't really need more HD space, but my 3 year old phat is getting more and more likely to have a YLOD, so I'd rather get a new one and transfer all my data than have to revive the phat... I would miss the touch sensitive buttons though.
Yup, yup.
And, if I were to get a handheld...the PSP 1000s are only $100 now. And for $30 more I could get a PSP3000...so...
BTW, Gamestop is dropped their refurbished PS3 prices down to $200 for the 20GB and 40GB fatboy PS3s. The old 120GB and 160GB have dropped to $250. And the old 250GB PS3s are now $300. But...why you'd pay $300 for a 250GB system when you can get a 320GB system for the same price...and a 320GB system with Infamous 2 and a bunch of other stuff for the same price...I don't know.
EDIT: Refurbished 250GB PS3s are down to $200, as well.
