I am planning on pre-ordering the Playstation 3 when I go home to visit my family during the weekend. I don't care how many people at my school think I am crazy or dumb to spend $600 on the hardware and some more on its games.
O baby come to mE!!!!

Report: PlayStation 3 to cost £425 in UK

UK price of high-end version of Sony's next-gen console may cost $200 more than US counterpart; no-frills 20GB model may not be option in region.

Sony Computer Entertainment UK has confirmed that the retail price of the 60GB PlayStation 3 is currently planned to be £425 ($799) in the UK--although there is still a possibility that this will change before November's launch. SCEUK MD Ray Maguire told industry magazine MCV that the "60GB version looks like £425 in the UK at the moment".

However, there is no guarantee that the cheaper 20GB console will be launched in the UK. "The lower-end 20GB version of PlayStation 3 has no Wi-Fi, no HDMI, and none of the other slots in it, so it's really a question of where we would position it. It's more likely that we will only launch the 60GB version," Maguire told MCV.

A price point of £425 would, at current exchange rates, make the UK console over £100 more expensive than a direct conversion from the $599 US retail cost, and about £10 more than a direct conversion from the European price of 599 euros announced at E3. The 20GB version will retail for $499 in North America.

Online retailer GameStation has closed its preorders for the 60GB console "until Sony are in a position to confirm initial allocation volumes".

The PlayStation 3's chief rival, the premium Xbox 360, currently sells for £279 ($525) in the UK. The same unit costs $399 in the US.

$799, flipping brilliant eh :dopey:. £425's what I expected though I'd love the price to be somewhat, nearer at least, to what the US pay's. I know we have VAT, but that's not $200.

In Germany we don't have to preorder, just to stand up early on launch day...which I will do....

Ebiggs
My local EB Games said they will start taking preorders in late August. I'll be there.

Highly unlikely.

EB is owned by Game Stop, and corporate offices at GameStop have stated Pre-Orders will not begin until October at the earliest.

Pre-ordering a PS3?? Not me. I'm going to wait untill GT5 comes out and wait some more (about half a year after GT5 has been released in Europe). Till then maybe the second version of the PS3 will come out, without bugs. After a good review of the PS3 and GT5 I'll decide if I'm going to get one.

I'm a patient guy :)

Anyone know where I can preorder this thing in Florida, USA? I have been searching all over but no luck on places like Tampa have it and thats too far. :(
Please PM me if you can very appreciated. BTW if this helps I want...need the 60 gig version.

I just preordered my PS3 today, since I got an guarantee that I receive it on launch day and get a game of choice for free.... amazon btw....

Play.com have the 60Gb PS3 available for preorder, for Christmas delivery, at £549.

£200 premium just for early-adopting? I don't think so.

What! Were already paying a hell of a lot more than America and Japan, and companies are adding over £100 MORE to the price. That IS robbery.

£425 at Gamestation, though they aren't taking orders any more.

Isn't that £549 at Play the bundled one? It is supposed to come with Warhawk, F1 06 and Singstar. They're not even guaranteeing a Christmas delivery.
I'm looking around for a pre-order place but there's a good chance I'll be queing up to get it from my local Tesco!

I would not pre-order from Play.com, because I have had problems with my 360 order from them, before getting a 360 from Argos. However, you should look around a bit.

I'm wondering what Amazon will do. They were badly criticised for the 360 fiasco last year. They started taking 360 orders in August. So far they've remained silent on PS3 orders (Amazon.co.uk anyway). Maybe they're going to be more careful this time round. If so they could be one to watch.

As of right now, GameSpot is estimating that they will recieve about 13 units per store, though it has not been said what mixture those units will be (20, or 60). We'll just have to wait and see.

I'm still waiting to hear from Sony about the pre-pay strategy they'll have for stores for the PS3. I know that they have something cooked up, unless they don't want any stores to have any kind of pre-pay system. As of now, I think they still wont allow any stores from taking pre-paid preorders, though I think Toys R Us are currently doing it. But, that's not a surprise since they lie so often.

EDIT: It looks like Toys R Us got rid of it.
