Maybe at first. I don't think 360 will die like Dreamcast like some people are claiming. However, I don't think 360 will come close to beating or tying the PS3. I predict, 360 will do little better than the first Xbox, but will not threaten PS3. It will probably get a pretty good jump in the first year or so though.

Can you be any more biased? Did you know that the XBox outsold the PS2 in the US a long, long time ago?

And when was it ever about beating the other system? Why not just have the conusmers (us) able to choose from 2 incredible platforms? It's not about which console wins, its about us winning. Competition is great, I guess some people get their jollies by defending their "home" console, but in the end, the only winner is us.

Honestly, I don't know which console I am going to get first. This early on, I have no idea what kind of games there will be for each console. I plan on waiting before I make my decision. Unfortunately, in a few months, I will become a poor-college student so I might not be able to get either of them. But I have yet to get a next-gen console within a year of original release. I got the PS2 over a year after it came out and the Xbox about 2 or 3 years later (last summer). So it will be a long time for me to get one of these. I'll have to wait for the price drops to come.

First of all, I do admit I'm an Playstaion guy. I have been since the first Playstation. Out of the current big 3, I own PS2(slim), GameCube, but no Xbox. Not because I was biased, but I'm not rich enough to own all three systems, especially when Xbox games doesn't interest me(not a bias, I prefer PS games). Only reason I own a GameCube is because it was free(Gift Card) and I grew up playing Nintendo games and still love it.

Having said all this, I think I'm one of the least biased person in here. I'm merely predicting the outcome of the sales war between PS3 and X360. I've clearly stated in my post, I believe all three systems should be good. Since you think I'm biased, just because I don't say X360 will outsell PS3, perhaps you are bit biased yourself?

From what I've read previously, Xbox barely surpassed PS2 sales. Yes they outsold the PS2.... after 50 million PS2 was sold. I do not have a record to back this up, it's just what I've read or heard in the past. However, I think you'll agree with me, the main reason Xbox outsold PS2(not by a lot, from what I understand) was because millions of people already had bought PS2. Also, Microsoft giving away Xbox probably helped(rumored to have lost $100 for every Xbox consoles sold). It was joked that everytime they sold Xbox, Microsoft lost money.

Edit: I think the "Slimline" PS2(or PSTwo) are outselling the Xbox?

It says the shortage of Xbox consoles were to blame, but I don't think the shortage was any worse than that of the PSTwo consoles. I bought mine in February, actually had to negotiate with the BestBuy to sell me one. They had some reserves(for internet sales?), but wouldn't sell me one. When I agreed to buy the bundle of console, memory card, extra controller(for $189), they finally agreed to sell me one.

Pretty much every company that sells hardware like consoles and computers loses money on them. They get the most money on accessories and games. I'm sure each PS2 that Sony sells costs them money.

Wouldn't be suprised. It was a good move by Sony. The first and second gen PS2s are wearing out. It's been so much longer since PS2s first came out than Xbox. By the time a slim XBox would be due, the Xbox 360 would be coming out. I'llm admit that I bought a PStwo.

Yes, I did. But it wasn't so much due to the argument like "X360 is crappy and PS3's awesome! 👍 ".

Sony Playstaion has a larger fanbase, better games and data released about the consoles so far shows the PS3 has superior specs. This is not my biased take on the whole thing. That's just the way it is. One thing you could argue would be the "better games" part, but seriously, if we have a worldwide vote on that, would you want to bet your money on people voting Xbox has better games than the PS2? Also, I believe I said that X360 should do better than the original Xbox.

I doubt PS2 and GameCube lost $100 on each consoles sold. You can believe that Xbox had realistic chance agaisnt PS2(and I'm the fanboy...), but did you forget Xbox barely beat the GameCube? I think Xbox won by just million or two in console sales. Yes, PS2 had the head start, just like the Dreamcast had over PS2.

This tread was created out of necessity. I saw the stupid, childish back and forth bickering of which console was better in my "The New PS3!" thread and I didn't want to see it. That same crap plagued the GT4 threads until finally a Forza - GT4 thread was created to lure the idiots. So, I created this thread for that purpose. I didn't want to see it. I had to bait a few people, but it worked and this thread in now off and running. I'm happy now that I got what I wanted.

Personally, I own both machines; PS2 and XBox. I never play the XBox. My two boys have it. I'm not into online gaming, and don't care for the choice of games. I watched the XBox360 half hour informmercial, and was pissed off. It showed nothing of what the XBox was capable of. It was nothing more than a group of people, who think they know what cool is, trying to hype the console for just being. That crap doesn't work on me. I wanted substance, proof of the new console's power and features. But, it wasn't that much different from the console I have now that I never touch.

But, the Sony pre E3 PS3 media conference blew me away! I was expecting XBox360 to do the same, but it never happened. So, I don't see the need to get one, outside my boys wanting one. I'm very excited about the Blu-ray driver in the PS3 and finally getting some HD movies. I have a nice HDTV set and theater system that I would love to play HD movies when I ever I feel like it. I can only do that with my current HD-HDD recorder. It can only store about three HD movies, and still have enough HDD space to record new shows or movies. I have to delete HD movies to make room for more HD movies that I would love to store and watch. Unitl they make a 800GB HDD that is 5,200 RPM, I'm screwed.

That's why I love the PS3 so much. It can finally deliver what I want! HD movies, and a second SACD player! XBox360 wont give me that. So, you can see why I'm excited about the PS3 and not the XBox360.

So, if after this you still think I'm a Sony "fanboy" and XBox hater, go ahead. I don't care. But, I felt you should know that I'm really not. If, and or when, the XBox360 looks appealing to me, I'll buy one. But, in the meantime, I'm having a little fun with it all.

The attitude of XBox360 fans is just so hilarious. I have a very sick, weird sense of humor and love things like this. What comes from the mouths of MS people tickles me to death. I love it! This is how I have fun with all this!

This is how I like to have fun. If you can't handle it, then leave. Everything I said was all for a tongue-in-check value. I'm not serious about this at all. But, my tre feelings are not hidden. I like what the PS3 is and will be and don't care about the XBox180 in the slightest.

I agree. I was into Nintendo until they lost Enix, who made my then favorite game "Dragon Quest". I just remembered that's when I bought my Playstaion(first one) with a mod-chip, so I can play the Japanese Dragon Quest VII. By the time PS2 came out, I knew I was gonna buy one to play GT3.

P.S. I've always thought you were the biggest Xbox "fanboy" here, but you've been behaving really well, especially compared to Solid Lifters. 👍

What confuses me with E3 is the MS press confrence was like 5% about the games.

I got a PS2 50% for games 50% as a DVD player. Xbox, i didnt even buy for me i broke up with my girl and took it from her. bUt ihave 4 games now for it and 1 i never played kotor.

II think I'll wait to see what PS3 completely offers until i can say why im getting it. Blu-ray means nothing until i have a HDTV.

PS2 undersold because the lack of consoles shipped. No one thinks about that. sony made more money since there was negative effect from shipping and selling. PS2 shortages was the key.

This came from an issue of gameinformer. And Microsoft wants to beat the competition. Sony just wants happy gamers. Sony killed the N64 and the dreamcast. and forced Microsoft to make a new system before the old ones time. Sony didnt try to, it just happend. M$ is trying. The whole bill gates Halo 3 thing says enough.

Just keep in mind, that all the households that play videogames, had PS2's.

It's like this. Let's say you have 2 million people who play video games in their households. Well, when 1.8 million of those people already have a PS2, you can expect the numbers will slow.

But only .5 million of those people have an Xbox. So, when Xbox prices drop, and more games are available, and they (MS) runs promotions for XBL, of course the sales increase, because they aren't necessarily going out to buy another PS2.

Well, Imo, Sony would still have the top software, their titles far outnumber what Microsoft offers:

Devil May Cry
Metal Gear Solid (though currently they do get ported)
Silent Hill (until recently, but they still arrive on PS2 first)
Final Fantasy
Jack and Daxter
Ratchet and Clank
Tekken
God Of War (WOOT!)
Socom Series

I'm there are others I'm forgetting, but those do it for me. Sony has a strong backing, and to me that says a lot if people are willing to support such difficult hardware to deal with (PS2)

I don't know the PS2 focuses more on RPG and adventure style games, which really aren't my thing. Xbox has better FPS in my opinion. Racing games are still iffy though since I really haven't played to many on each system. Althought Sega GT2002 for the Xbox was an excelent game when the game came out.

The Playstation line is aimed more towards Japan while the Xbox is pretty much aimed at America.

Sorry code this thing about Nvidia wanting money from sony is true, its been the talk of the town upto E3, now its how good the games look on both consoles, to be fare ive always played on sony's hardware and i dont mind being called a PS-Fanboy, but I hope that all the consoles do good for games and so on because then there will be something for all the people of the world to play.

TBH, there are more important thing going on in the world of gaming than mine is better than yours, like whos plays better what the pads are like as this is what makes using a console for me, and how much is going to work or better what is going to go wrong aka overheating or exploding power cables.

so far im sticking with PS3 and Nintendo revolution, but if 360 throws somthing in the mix that makes me think twice then im sure i would buy and play.

just the thought of backwards compatibility, Blue-ray and hard drive make my choice easy, but hose pads on the PS3 look a mighty like the old sidewinder pads and look a little nasty IMO, but the whole look of the 360 look tacky and too much like one of the old PC's that used to sit under your monitor.

BTW it been reported that Microsoft are in talks with Nvidia about releasing an expantion pack for the 360 that will allow backwards compatability.

Actually, that's completely untrue. I don't want to get on your bad side here, but Microsoft has made unbelievable effort to market the Xbox internationally. Their hard work paid off in Europe, but they were not widely accepted in Japan. Last couple of years, you heard about Microsoft wooing Japanese programmers and game companies, this is the reason. Japanese news were already reporting that Microsoft were planning their attack in Japan with their Xbox 360.

I do suspect little bit of that, but I think it's mainly the difference of taste in games.

When you look at great Xbox games, they are mainly first person shooters and sports titles, which's not very popular in Japanese market. Last year or two, Xbox came up with RPGs and finally some quality racing games. Lack of those RPGs and Racing games hurt the Xbox Launch in Japan, IMO.

MicroSoft made a huge mistake with the 360.

I've been struggling with the thought of buying a xbox.

Halo, PGR, DOA, KOTOR... those were the selling points for me and I have been on the edge of buying a box for the last 2 years now.

However, after the E3 MS showing I was seriously unhappy...

(I may be buying a box in the same fashion as my N64... Years after the release and only a short time after the release of its follow-up).

It seems like MS is more concerned with creating "a new I-pod" than contributing to the next generation of console gaming.

I agree with you. They're trying to make the 360 work with all this stuff.

Here's an idea:
Screw all that, and use that space to make everything to make the GAMES better than just make their songs work on an I-POD or crap like that.
