Really it comes down to what games you like to play, the PS line has always seemed to have more action and RPG titles while the Xbox has had more FPS, racing games, and in my opinion bette quality sports games.

With RPG's I'll only play them on the PC.

I'm a PC guy, I don't like consoles all that much but I buy Playstations because I like the GT series that much, I also buy the GTA series for it because so far (GTA3 onwards) it has come on Playstation first. Xbox doesnt seem to have anything that appeals to me.

BlazinXtreme - The sports titles have all been identicle save visuals, bot features have always been identicle...I do not see how you can draw a comparison between MS and Sony there...

As for "how many people play Tekken for the technical aspect"....well, judging from Tekken Zaibatsu, about 33,000 registered members.

And as for DOA? Well there are many DOA sites, but from the main one, there's about 5,000 registered members.

So, for that I say, a LOT of people play these games for tournament play and their technical appeal, only that MORE of them feel the need to trade technical information over the internet like strats, combo's, and more (Tekken players obviously).

Once i've played both i'll obviously be able to say for sure, but right now i', holding out for the PS3. It just sounds immense and the thoughts of GTA and GT on it is just too much (:

The look a lot nicer on the Xbox, the online play in much better, and the controls are much more suited to sports games. The PS controller sucks for sports, racing, and shooting games.

Not really, it's more about taste.

I have Madden 05 for both the PS2 and the Xbox, and I must say it looks much better on the Xbox and seems to run a lot smoother. Also when I try to play any game on the PS2 online it proves to be a pain. With the Xbox it's very simple to just jump into a game.

The PS2 controller is weird and I do not care for it, much like the older Xbox controllers which I thought were to big. But with the PS2 controllers I fine the anolog sticks weirdly placed and the shoulder buttons suck for shooting games. The Xbox controllers are far easier to use.

I'm by no means an Xbox fan boy, I bought my Xbox 3 years after my PS2. When I first got my PS2 I even had some issues with it. I just didn't like parts of the system. I enjoy the Xbox more because like I've said I like the games better and the online play doesn't completly suck.

The controller debate is a personal one, I much prefer the DS2 over the XB pad, but games look better and run smoother on the XB, and the XB's online is a lot better. I'm not sdo much into the XB because the majority of the console games I want are available on the PS2 and I don't want to buy an XB just for two maybe 3 more games. I already had the PS2 by the time the XB came out, if I didn't have either at the time I might have got an XB instead, but either way, I wouldn't have got both.

I think Xbox being better than PS2 online is a given, but the controller is really about personal taste. While is good that the Xbox pad has triggers, I always thought it lacks two more shoulder buttons like the PS2 one has. And the black and white button's placement sucks IMO.

But this time it's about Xbox360 vs PS3.

Result : power and therefor grafics will be equally at least, probably the PS3 games will look even better.

Who knows the exact online plans for PS3 ? Maybe it's like LIVE maybe not, but one thing is for sure : the online gameplay itself concerning a specific EA sports game or whatever will be almost the same experience as on LIVE.

Did you have a PS3 pad in your hands ? No, so who knows? Maybe it's just fine for fps and sports games (btw DS2 is THE pad for sports game imo, but that's another story).

I don't want you to buy a PS3 at launch etc, just wanted to say that you shouldn't compare last generation with the new one.
PS2 was released in 2000 without a masterplan for online gaming and the Xbox game out 2 years later and had one.
Everything starts all over again under different conditions... :)

The black and white buttons are the killer as well as the triggers. The triggers are too easy to push by mistake and the black and whites are just uncomfortably out of reach for quick actions for sports games. FPS are the only advantage for Xbox controller IMO. Yes it is in taste as I think ESPN 2K5 crushes Madden in gamplay, graphics and animation for Xbox.

Good post, Max. Exactly what I was thinking too.

I do agree with Blazin on the controllers. Dual Shock's function just fine, but I haven't liked that design since PS2 has come out. The new boomerang controller's design is really hideous, but wasn't there a review by someone that said the new controller actually is really eargonomic(or something along that line)? Looks really uncomfortable, but it's supposed to fit into your hands really well.....

Eeeh, although I would gladly submit the fact that the Dual Shock controller is one of the best designs ever made, it is not a great controller for FPS and some racing titles. For me, the origional XBOX controller was the best (far, far better than the S-controler)... The triggers were perfect for FPS and racing games, and the button layout was pretty easy to work with, espically if you were a Dreamcast fan.

I would not be surprised if Sony dumps the "Boomerang" design for the PS3 controller, and instead opts to streamline the Dualshock. Using a design that dates back to the late '90s makes it easy for people to pick up on the new titles, but without any change it does nothing to make PS stand out.

On the other hand, I was surprised by the improvement that was made by Microsoft with the XBOX360 controler. Its bigger and closer in size to the origional pad, and although I was not sure if I would like the shoulder buttons, they work out pretty well with the triggers just below...Ohh, and the center button thingy (I cant remember the specific name) is absolute genious!

I really liked the Dreamcast controllers' design. 👍

I'm hoping that they will dump that design. Even if they do come out with the "Boomerang" though, it won't affect my choice.

Is that the big "X"? I think you can turn on/off(out of stand-by) the console with it. Genious, indeed. :D

I like the 360 controller. It so light and just right.

360pad>DS2>ControllerS IMO

I dont see how the ps3's concept controller "looks" uncomfortable. I'll judge it when i hold it.

Yeah, same here. I'm sure it'll be fine. 👍

As everytime I pose my opinion about it, I'm getting bad comments but I will post it back.

I pretty think Sony will stick a better platform than Microsoft. Why ??? Because I PERSONNALLY think that Microsoft created the Xbox with the intention of be the gaming console industry, to again gain all the money. As I see and know, Microsoft is the number one operating system, gaining the majority of the money in this industry. Microsoft Games, PC gaming franchise, also is the bigger in the PC gaming industry. Whats the world's most known text editor ??? Microsoft Word from the big Microsoft Office suite, which is the most sold in the world. MSN Messenger will now have the name Windows Live Messenger, I have the beta version and quite frankly, MSN Messenger 7.5 was a diamond if you compare these two. I agree that Microsoft gives a good competition, but I personnally think that they want it all...

I cant say that Sony doesnt want to be big too, and already is. Plus, I know and agree that Sony Playstation is overrated, but its overrated for the reason that its good. If I look the Xbox360 and see alot of messages about problems it has, I MUST THINK, that Microsoft did a quick job to release it before the holidays to get money. Results, its not done quick good and there is problems on it. Sony is taking alot of time I must say, but it will worth the time considering that Microsoft released an imperfect product with it problems. Sony is taking the time to work on their baby and when it'll be release, its gonna be a hit, FOR SURE.

My opinion is, I must agree the Xbox360 looks good, I like the controllers, Xbox has a great game selection, but I must give the hand to Sony, not because I loved PSX and PS2, but because I'm sure they will make a better product. :)

Well.......... if you were talking about Polyphony Digital, or Nintendo or somebody like that, I might agree it's not just about the money. With Sony though, I'm pretty sure it's about the money. :D

Sony has made it absolutely clear that they are and will continue to be the #1 platform worldwide come hell or high water... The Microsoft boys have done plenty to scare the socks off the folks at SCEA by actually launching a console without any previous exprience and any well-defined titles that could actually compare and in many cases beat the PS2. Although the PS2 did reach over 100 million units worldwide (compared to 12-15 million XBOXes), the XBOX did do enough damage to take some market share away from Sony...

Will PS3 completely dominate the market again? There is a good chance of it, but I dont think the Sony marketshare will be as large as it previously was. The 360 does have Sony worried, and although Koutaragi and the clan would never admit it, the 360 is the console that could beat them at their own game.

I must agree, that I didnt liked the first Xbox at all. First the design was too big and ugly. When the 360 came out, I was impressed by the step Microsoft got from Xbox to Xbox360 in terms of appearance, it looks really good. I was impressed by the step they had in technology too, really big step. But I cant say what is gonna be better until the PS3 comes out. But predictions are, I pretty think Sony will release something that will have bigger hit than the PS2 :)

I'm waiting for Sony to spin the comparisons between the PS2 and PS3 in terms of graphics and processing power to make it seem so much better than the 360... If I remember correctly the 360 is 8X more powerful than the XBOX, so Sony will probably make some outrageous claim that the PS3 is 15X more powerful than the PS2 even though the XBOX was more powerful to begin with...

Another thing I dont get about Sony: Why the hell are they braging about the PSP selling more units than the 360 when it is getting completely blown out of the water by the Nintendo DS?

First off, Power means nothing without great application.

You guy's can talk about "what types of games" you like more, but the fact of the matter is, even for those "types" of games, there are more CRAPPY titles than there are outstanding ones.

The PS2 had MANY MORE TITLES that were higher sellers overall, it was a better selling console, and appealed to many more gamers. Why would it be negative at all to compare your consoles successor to it's predecessor? It's not...

Sony doesn't have to spin any numbers by the way, to make the PS3 appear better than the 360. Visually, they are probably very evenly matched.

As far as features go? The PS3 get's the cake hands down.

And as far as PSP, it's a bit amusing how the 360 was supposed to sell so many millions of units, then hardware fell short on development, errors were everywhere...and this rinky dink hand held was selling more than the 360. Sony is going to spin that, because to other consumers, it will make it seem like Sony makes a better product. It's called business.

I will agree whole heartedly though, the DS > the PSP (and the 360 for that matter, muahahaha)

I heard the PS3 has 7 all-time running processors and a 8th for emergency if the others crash. 7 processors, thats something never seen before, or that I NEVER SEEN before... lol

If it were Microsoft they would do the same thing. I have not gotten a 360, not sure if I will as of yet. Meh tha_con doesnt like the 360 so it must really suck:yuck: After playing PDZ and then playing Splinter Cell Choas Theroy the leap is very tiny as an unknowing gamer would think SCCT was a 360 title. I'm just not a buy every game own everything kinda guy(tha_con ;) ) I was impressed with Guitar Hero than PDZ when i played them both at EBgamestop heh.

I hope not. I don't mean to upset the Xbox fan(boy :p)s here, but from what I've seen, I'm not impressed by X360's graphical capability at all. I'm sure it will get much better as the time goes, but still...... Some media's been reporting that the jump from Xbox to X360 didn't impress like a jumping to the next gen console should, right? I agree with that. If the Playstation's stride is going to be no bigger than the X360, I'd either wait until the prices come down, or just play the Nintendo Revolution for a while.

Note: I'm talking tough now, but I also told everybody that I wasn't buying PS2 until the price came down. I ended up paying the full MSRP of $300, as soon as the GT3 was released. :sly:

Are you smoking crack? How many crappy Digimon, Super Truck Racing, Starsky and Hutch, Simpsons, Skrek, Stuntman, Incredibles, Yu-Gi-Oh, Tokyo Extreme Racing, Super Trucks Racing, Monster Jam, etc. titles sucked so much ass you almost had to comit suicide after looking at them? If anything, Sony gets the award for most crap titles on a console, and the only reason why that happens is because these little companies trying to make a buck target the PS2 because so many people own them.

Yes, it was a better selling console overall... What 100 million units as compared to 20 million on the XBOX? Considering that the XBOX was brand new, thats pretty impressive... And what matters most is that it sold well in the US, the worlds largest gaming market, and the 360 is poised to do the same thing again.

Sony doesn't have to spin any numbers by the way, to make the PS3 appear better than the 360. Visually, they are probably very evenly matched.

I'll agree as far as visuals go, but with features? Wait and see... Microsoft is having a hayday with the XBLM, and having an HD drive available later in the summer or fall is another plus. The 360 is driving HD sales across the board, and it can be certain that the PS3 will do the same. But being that Sony really has only alluded to some of the features to be included with the system, they have never come on board to even say or show anything solid yet... As I have said before, we will see at E3...

Yeah, Microsoft goofed on the production numbers. I really dont think anyone was anticipating a launch as huge as it was, but Microsoft had been saying for months that there werent going to be many to launch worldwide, I belive the number was only 1.5 million for the first shipments. The problems they had were minimal, and of course the media and the online interweb blew everything out of porportion when it came to the "meltdowns" and glitches... Its called keeping your "power brick" cool kids, get used to it...

Business is business I suppose, and if Sony wants to play dirty they most certainly can... There were mentions of Sony doing whatever possible to slow down the 360 any way they can earlier this year both in the press and on the old internets, and none of it has really surprised me other than the fact they have not shown any actual game footage, nor have they shelled out any details on any new title developments. Microsoft does hold the cards in this situation, and I am pretty surprised they havent let Allard or Moore completely tear into Sony and thier products...

As for the PSP vs DS, its a pretty easy call for anyone who knows anything about gaming... But to say the DS is better than a console? Thats called stretching the truth...

The 360's graphical capabilitys for a 210 quid console are ridiculous. This you can not argue. Hell, even PGR3 makes any, ANY other racing game you can buy look (and I'm talking visually here) pathetic. And I've played em all.
I'm not saying PGR3 is TEH UBAR 133735T game, but it looks so bloody amazing. The in car views alone make it worth buying, the detail lavished on them is just incredible.

As far as features go? The PS3 get's the cake hands down.

Eh? Umm the console aint out matey, how can you say that?

Alot of people moan about the brick like PSU of the 360, but for gods sake, think what's in it. HDD, a highly clocked multicore cpu, half a gig o ram, wireless gubbins and a very high end 3d card. This stuff uses alot of power. I do agree however that it's big, but meh, stick it behind your desk or something, it's not a portable machine.

Great take, YSSMAN. Very level headed post. 👍 I do just want to add one thing. :D Only one of my buddies bought X360, and his remote is no good. Microsoft did send him a replacement one for free, but that didn't work either. I guess they told him that third one is on the way, and couple of weeks went by, but no remote. His fiancee called back Microsoft, now they say that he has to ship the second remote back to them on his own dime. 👎 He still loves his X360 though.

No, I haven't. I have played Project Gotham Racing 3 and yes, it had great visual, but I didn't think it was amazing. I should note, I haven't seen PGR3 on High-Def. I have no doubt that visual on X360 games will get better and better, that's to be expected. However, I am not seeing the kind of jump I was expecting the next generation systems to have.

This has been my console-jump history:

NES to SNES

SNES to Playstation

Playstation to PS2/Dreamcast/GameCube

I'm used to seeing AMAZING upgrade, when moving on to a next gen console. As you can see from my previous post, I'm not picking on just X360. If I see same level of improvement on PS3, I would be just as un-impressed. I would holdoff buying it, get a cheapie like the Revolution and wait until the PS3's price come down. Without the HD capability on the new Nintendo, I'd think it should be pretty cheap(compared to PS3 & X360).
