Sony has not decided yet how PS3 online mode will be. The only thing they said so far is that it will mantain the good features from PS2 online and evolve from there.

Exactly and now i might just vote 360 in that poll threre as Sony can't see outside of Tokyo when it comes to 'Community' . I might just get a 360 and play some of the real folks on this forum here.

I enjoy the fact that Xboxlive is hardwarebased, friends lists etc
It's still about the games though. If the variety of high quality games on PS3 can be compared to PS2 , then we'll have loads of good looking games that have software based online play. The quality of that experience might be different from game to game and might also never reach the level of Live, but that doesn't make some online GT5 a bad thing, does it ;)

Yeah probably not, the fanbase is huge, so is the software support... but MS could close the gap a bit more this time, and maybe next generation they are par... or not, who knows... the success of Sony - or let's put it that way : the degree of Sony's dominance will depend on the power of the PS3... if the difference is too little ( keep in mind that Xbox360 games will always be one generation ahed, because of the earlier release ), PS3 should still be the overall winner, but especially in the US and EU the battle might be a little colser this time.

I can't juge if there are one or two points in the PS2 hardware who are actually stronger, some might be equal, in the end most people should be able to see the difference, the best looking Xbox games are above the the best looking PS2 games ;)

I think you're mistaken about a 360 games being "a generation ahead". You have to understand, Developers started making titles for PS3 around the same time developers started making titles for the 360, release dates mean next to nothing.

It was november of 2004 when developers first got wind of PS3, and started to get specs and development tools (specifically only the first party developers). This is about the same time that MS began their development.

You won't see the "generation gap" because there is none. WHen the PS3 launches, I'm almost positive it will be equal to or greater than the quality of 360 titles.

Also because the PS3 hasn't seen a lot of mention as far as ported titles. Maybe a few sports titles, but I haven't seen news that revolves around ports like the 360 got.

Also, I will say the Xbox is a stronger console, but PS2 developers have better working knowledge of their hardware, which is why the gap "seems" so minimal to many people.

I didn't see the new Nintendo on there? well its most likely to be very good, and really hitech :dopey: what ever they mean by that. It's most likey to be the same or even more powerful then the 360, but definatly not the PS3, as between 360 and PS3, since PS3 has the better racing game (GT5) and not PGR3, or Forza 2 if that ever happens. Ps3 kiks 360's ass, if 360 come out with somthing i like i'll get it but, i havn't seen a game i liek on it, that i can't get on a better system (PC).

Master Yoda, a question. Are you on the same planet we are? That last post of yours would suggest otherwise...

Ill informed, biased and clueless. That sums up what you said pretty well.

"FORzA 8 lyke kiks Gt20s ASS!!! LOLZ! XBOX 9 IS LYKE MOR POWERFAL AND STUFF!11! HUR HUR! Xb0X 9 foreva, ps9 sux!!1! LOLZ!"

The above is a version of your post, but from an xbox fanboy pov.

(sorry couldn't resist)

Don't be too hard. I mean if I think about it and if you put the words in a different way, Master_Yoda's main problem is the fact, that he didn't inform himself about the Revolution. Nintendo has a different approach this time, but under normal conditions a console which will be released almost a year after the Xbox360, is more powerful. That is the way it has always been. Then he says, that in his opinion the PS3 would be better than his idea of the the next Nintendo console. He used the word "powerful" but his reason to say that, is GT5, which he obviously likes a lot more than PGR or Forza. The he says, that the PS3 will have more power than the Xbox360, which should be the case, since it will be released at least 6 months later. Then he says, he would buy a 360 as soon as a game he likes will be released. He doesn't like the Xbox360 exclusive startlineup ( PGR3, Kameo, PD...) and he says that he can have the rest of the availbe games ( COD2 for example ) on the PC in a better - I'd say similiar quality.
He is speaking for himself and he is not that wrong as it might appear in the beginning imo ;)

Well said Max DC.
Now that Microsfot is going to release HD-DVD driver for Xbox 360, Will you guys think it will be able to play games made on HD-DVDs? i myself don't think so, and if it will, this is a very "nice" step by microsoft to make Xbox 360 owners to pay 2 or 3 hundred dollar more just to be able to play the games:dopey:

HD games on Xbox360 : a 99.9% NO imo because of obvious reasons.

There was something going round the forums recently. Something about a post someone made about the PS3 and how the 360 was (in their eyes) superior. You'd have to read it yourself. The interesting thing is the post has gone! Here's a link to the article. http://www.ps3portal.com/ps3/article/250.html
And here's one to a forum that picked up on it.. http://gaming.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=4363
and... http://forum.pcvsconsole.com/viewthread.php?tid=17931
I don't know what the truth is. When dealing with the interweb I find it best to be sceptical of pretty much everything!

It's probably Microsoft's way of playing catch up. They had to release the 360 before the PS3 and so they cut the HD-DVD. But now that the talk is shifting to Blu-ray, Microsoft has to show that they're preparing for the HD world as well.

I guess it'll be interesting to see how many Xbox owners are die-hard enough to shell out more money to upgrade their machines. That'll show whether the HD-DVD becomes more than a peripheral that few will make games for.

History has shown that add-on periphals never sold good, why would that suddenly change. Very few people will buy the HD-DVD add-on.

Did you guys read the statment by the head honcho from MS x-box division Peter Moore that they said if HD-DVD is a flop they will release a BR Addon instead, lol this coming from the guys who brought you "Vista will not naitvly support BR & We dont wand to put a next gen opticle drive in our 360's" lol.

Not entirly reliable, but funny none the less.

Oh, that's just hilarious! So first they get their fans to buy a $100 HD drive, and then a few months later, get them to buy another $100 Blu-ray drive. And I'll bet the MS fanboys will be claiming that they got the better bargain. *shakes head*

Maven, I think you have kinda missed the point of it. It's a movie player, that's it. An optional movie player I might add. No one is making them buy anything, you don't need it. Thus, it's not really that hilarious.

Also the HDD is included in the price, if you got the far far better premium package.

Supposedly Microsoft have officially stated that they have no intention of supporting Blu-Ray. mercurynews.com
I don't know if it's accurate or BS. But I'm wondering if Microsoft are backpeddling at all!

Anyway, the HD DVD add on for the 360 is only a pseudo next-gen DVD player. The 360 does'nt do 1080p. This can be changed if the add-on produces 1080p, but I doubt it will. The PS3 does (supposedly) but to be honest I'll only believe it when it actually shows up on a working PS3.

Well, on the one hand, HD-DVD itself is only "pseudo" new technology. Comparing the three formats, HD-DVD seems to be more of a "go-between".. the middle ground between current DVD and Blu-Ray.

As far as Microsoft goes.. all the article said is that they have no plans concerning Blu-Ray at this time. But if HD-DVD fails (which it most likely will), then MS will have no choice but to support Blu-Ray. Especially when the next-next-gen of consoles comes along, and they won't be able to cling to DVD any longer. Which realistically, they shouldn't have done this time.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer upped the ante against the Sony PS3 this week during a lengthy interview with Investor's Business Daily.

The loud sound you hear is once again heard from another Microsoft executive, who is committed on winning the Xbox 360 console war against the Sony PS3. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is confident about Microsoft's Xbox 360 strategies against its competitors for the coming year against the Sony PlayStation 3.

Some video gamers at GameSHOUT tell us that it's not surprising that executives of a video game console maker is claiming the bragging rights of their product, afterall, it is about selling product. But other video gamers feel that Microsoft is speaking loud because of worries and concerns of their future Xbox 360 product.

The Xbox 360 is up against two new rivals this year which include the Nintendo Revolution and the Sony PlayStation 3. So far, Microsoft has not been able to win the battle in territories already owned by Nintendo and Sony, which is Japan.

"We knew Japan was going to be tough," said Ballmer, but "I'd still call the launch phenomenal. I think in this generation we can win. I'm not sure we're going to beat Sony in Japan this generation. Maybe. But we're going to beat Sony. We're off to a very good start. We're on track to sell between 4.5 to 5.5 million units by the end of our fiscal year, which is great."

However, the 4.5 to 5.5 million estimate has recently become Microsoft's benchmark of success, after much-reported but unspecified manufacturing difficulties caused the company to abandon its original 90-day target of 2.75 to 3 million consoles shipped.

When asking Ballmer about the potential concerns from the Sony PlayStation 3, Ballmer said, "Nobody knows what PlayStation 3 is, so it's a little hard for me to answer the question. And nobody knows when PlayStation 3 is going to come. The rumors are it will come out in the spring, but only in Japan. And nobody knows what PlayStation 3 is going to cost."

Ballmer continued, "PlayStation 3 has a (Blu-ray Disc) drive built in, so who knows what the heck they're going to charge for the thing, because those are very expensive drives. Who the heck knows what the games are going to look like for PlayStation 3? So, a lot of questions. And Sony has no strategy for an online service."

Which Ballmer is right. The Sony PlayStation 3 has no online service for multiplayer, and Microsoft has locked up the market with Xbox Live.

Just becasue they have an online sevice doesnt mean they have an online advantage, thats like saying pc gaming has sub-par online gaming. An online service is better than not having one but not having one isnt a bad thing at all. 90% of Xbox360 being less like xbox revovles around xboxlive. There is no such thing as an online "market" cross platform. Think about people without broadband, they make up most of the system sales.

That's true, I hadn't thought of that... *nods*

However, the saying "If you build it, they will come" is true for computers as well as baseball fields. If you provide game developers more storage and memory, they will fill it. The statement that games will never need more than 9 gigabytes of space is very reminiscent of Bill Gates saying that computers will never need more than 640k of memory.

Just wait, by the end of 2007, Microsoft is going to need a HD-capable drive to play the best games. I suppose you could get by with four or five discs, but I'd rather have just one.

Sounds like you have never used a 360, or played on Xbox live.

Xbox Live on the regular old Xbox was pretty good, and the integration with the new 360 dashboard and new games is just ridiculously good, its so easy to use, and it allows you to do so much more than just playing a game against someone (download xbox live arcade games, download game demos and trailers for free, the occasional music video for free of course, xbox live profile customization, chatting with friends while playing different games, automatic song name retrieval when copying cd's to harddrive, etc...)

I wont go as far as to say PC or PS2 gaming is sub-par, but I will say that the BEST online gaming experience is offered only on Xbox consoles. Its good on Xbox, and exponentially better on the 360.

I know PS2 allowed you to play online using a regular phone line, but I highly doubt that will be possible with PS3. Way too slow. Even the latest pc games you cant even get by with just a regular phone line so why not market these online gaming platforms to broadband users?

So in the end, if online gaming is your thing, you owe it to yourself to at least check out what Xbox Live has to offer, If you can afford it its well worth the $50 a year (thats less than 1 month of my cell phone bill! And I get more minutes of use a week on XBL than I do a month on my phone!). If not, then its up to your preference on the consoles, they both are pretty powerful and will impress anyone.

Sorry for the whoring. Is it that obvious I just picked up a 360?

Your right GVAN and I support your reply. XBOX has ALWAYS been better online than any PS2. Nothing even to debate about at all. Its been proven many many times.
Your also right about the 360 online. I rented it for 4 days and had a blast with it off and online. Just wait until you can play in 1080i HDTV!!!

My point wasn't which was better. I said having an online service is better. I said not having an online service is not a bad thing.
