And as I've said before, I love how the "power and numbers mean everything" people have suddenly changed their minds pretty damn fast.

Powers and numbers have never meant that much to me. Granted it's certainly a bonus.

After listening for years to Xbox fanboys guffaw about how much better 'their' machine was, I'm willing to give PS fanboys some slack.
I'm not I'll taken em down from both sides of the fanboy scale, it's the people in the middle that don't need any slack. I don't know if you were implying Code_kev was one of thoes people but I know he wasn't, it was mainly against CobraGT when he mentioned power and that was cos Cobra was saying the PS2 was more powerful all the time, not the games were more fun, thats a personal opinion.

Even so, no one's gonna want an Xbox 1.5 unless it has a Halo with twice that number. :dunce:

If the PS3 has a drastically better set of games and better graphics, the Xbox will loose it's fans. But that's an "if". Most of the pictures of Xbox 360 games people see are development versions of games, i.e. unfinished. Hopefully these aren't what the final products are because most of them don't seem to have superior gameplay to fall back on. We'll just have to wait and see though whether or not graphics and gameplay will work for one side or another.

And the PS3 stuff does? In terms of game play, there doesn't seem to be anything new on either. It just looks better, sounds better etc.

I guess you haven't seen games like Metal Gear Solid 4 or even something simple like that new boxing game (which as far as I know is only tentatively titled).

As this is the PS3 vs. Xbox 360 thread, I'd like to point out that right now there are no games on the Xbox 360 that are utilizing a system to realisitically model the movement of human flesh. I mention this because of the above mentioned boxing game is using an engine to this effect and apparently the developer is allowing other parties to use the engine for their purposes as well (Game Informer, October 2005 issue is my source.) The Xbox 360 has games like PD:Zero but it looks nothing like the Perfect Dark we all know and love in terms of gameplay. While no, the modeling of human flesh has nothing to do with gameplay (at the moment...), it's still a cool step in video games.

MGS 4 looks amazing, but your kidding your self if you really think it's suddenly going to play so differently to 1, 2, or 3. It will end up being a third person run about like before, hide abit, shoot abit, and yes, it will be amazing fun, but nothing really new. Now games like Oblivion...that's where it's at if you ask me. Open ended games are the future. So yes, all your examples have done is prove to me that PS3 games look great, which was obvious from the start.

And yeah, new graphics tech is a good thing, it's great to see new advancements. I love it when a game look amazing.

And PD Zero is a terrible example, the 360 does have stuff like gears of war, oblivion, and PGR3. PD Zero is gonna be average at best, and I think we all know that.

So why did you buy a PS2 then, the xbox is technically faster..

Because the xbox is a giant obese monstronsity POS! 👍

I fail to understand how the asthetics of the machine matter. I could say that the PS2 looks like an 80's beta max player, but that didn't stop me buying one.

I think he was being sarcastic?

Oh I considered that, but then there are also people who post like that, and are actually serious. Who knows, it you being sarcastic, fair enough, silly me. If not, then, nerrr!

Nah, omnis is on the "smart members" side, so I think it was sarcasm.

And about Oblivion, it looks like a great game no doubt. 👍

Omnis was being sarcastic, that I'm pretty sure of. Reagrding which console has the better games, so far it's the XB360, GT5 I know too little aboutto start getting over exited about, MGS4 is the only PS3 game I'm really, really looking forward to at the moment. On the XB360 theres more than one or two games that I'd want to go out and buy, when more PS3 games and info on them is released I'm sure I'll be interested in more than 1, but this talk of the PS3's games have better gameplay is complete speculation, how the hell do any of us know, have we played any of thoes games yet, no. People have played XB360 games so we can find out what they're like to play, but how can we compare them to games that could well be over a year off and have no playable code released yet.

Same here live.

I'm interested more in the X360 because it has more games I want, A la, Test Drive, PGR3, Gears of War, and Perfect Dark Zero.

I'll look at the PS3 when I see more games for it. MGS4 looks awesome and is on my wishlist, but I'll wait a little more to see what's on the PS3.

DUH, that was sarcasm. I thought the  smiley gave it away.

Anyway, yeah, aesthetics aren't too important. But, hey, you can't stand an xbox vertically. OMG, TEH S_UCK!

some one forgot about GT5 :D on the PS3 i hope. well i would gladly buy both systems but i don\'t have the money to do so, i lean more towards the PS3 though its the first one i want to get.

Hope you don't mean me since I mentioned GT5, I'm not all that exited about it yet though, if it's moves the series forwards in a large way then yeah, but if it's GT4 but with better graphics I couldn't give a rats as tbh. The only racing game I play these days is GTR, since I've had that GT4's gathered dust and so have all my other racing games.

Me, slipping hahahaha, if I don't mention GTR it's cos I've not played anything recently lol.

Oblivion does look good. Why? Cause it's a PC port basically. True, it's retooled for the Xbox 360 (that particular version) but it's nothing new if you've played the older ones. GOW is another example of nothing new: to me it seems like what Doom 3 was a few years ago. Another FPS but with really sweet graphics. Personally I think the upcoming Black has more on it: it's got the graphics of a next-gen game but it's on PS2 and Xbox--current gen systems. I think that takes some real skill for a developer.

I think the PS3 has more flexibility for developers, too. Not because of the Cell, but because of Sony's support (vs. Microsoft's lack thereof) and the controller. Xbox's is best suited to FPS games and few others. Not that it sucks completely beyond all use, it's to be considered when a game is ported from one to the next. Splinter Cell, for example, was hailed as this awesome game. I thought I'd give it a try--it certainly looked cool. However, I found the controls to be clunky and unresponsive. It could be the programming made the game somehow unresponsive, but the controls were a little awkward, too. Personal opinion, I know, but that's what this thread is about. ;)

Black does look good, specially for a PS2 game, but it doesn´t come near to next gen graphics.

More flexability? Explain please as your explanation made little sense. It's as if you imply that the xbox 360's hardware is somehow less suited to certain genres because of the choice of cpu and controller design. You splinter cell example made little sense also, I fail to see the relevence.
The hardware gives more flexability in one sense only, MORE POWER. That's it, the ps3 will be faster, which should allow them to make things look spanglier.

Oblivion is a pc port, but it IS a next gen game. You will notice that in all next gen games don't bring THAT much new stuff to gaming, just builds upon what's been done.

And gears of war isn't an FPS. It's third person, and doesn't really look anything like doom 3. Well much like doom 3. Ish.

Black looks next gen?

No way, you obviously havn't played Fear, Far Cry and Half Life 2, current generation games that obliterate that. Games like Ghost recon 3, Prey, MGS 4 etc make black look like abit of a joke if you ask me.

Splinter cell unresponse? Was okay for me.

Microsoft offer more support to developers than Sony, they did with the XB and probably will with the XB360. Thats not to say Sony don't offer anything, but MS are known to freely give libraries of data above what other companies have been doing in the past.

The controlers is a good point, Ido find the XB controler better than the PS2 controler for FPS games, but then I prefer the PS2 controler for racing games and fighting games. They're both pretty similar for platformers and puzzle games ect.

racing games and fighting games

Racing games!!!! 2 words man, deep triggers. For this reason alone, the xbox pads will pwn ps2 pads in racing games. For fighting games though, the xbox pad is pretty duff.

I'm happy using the thumb-tacks for racing games. Having to use the XBOX triggers for accel/brake means that gear changing has to be on the face buttons, which I hate with a vengence. I therefore see no advantage (personally) with racing games with the XBOX.

With PS2, I can have just as accurate analougous control AND more logical gear changes with the shoulder buttons (feels more like a paddle shift in a real car, being round the back of the steering wheel on each side, kinda...). The argument is also pointless considering the XBOX doesn't have a wheel as good as the DFP, nor as good racing games as PS2 (GT4). Forza is ok, but doesn't have the class of GT, its a bit clunky in its amateur American style presentation.
All other games on XBOX aren't simmy enough to make any strong case for the analougue triggers.

I can't imagine Halo working anywhere near as well on the PS2 pad however. It just seems wierd playing FPSs on a dual shock. Black might show how it can be done properly.

Code, to make Black look like it does on current hardware is nothing short of amazing. Of course there are better looking games on better hardware, but that does not take away the fact that critereon must have some real ninja programmers (as proven with Burnout also)!!

I know a lot ofpeople prefer the triggers, but the pads overall I prefer using the DS2, I use the stick to turn, the stick on the XB pad isn't in a very good position for my hands so while I can accelerate and break fine I find turning is more clumsy with the XB pad than the DS2 which I can accelerate and break with well enough using the thumb stick.

James your comment ion XB racing games s mute since every person will have a different answer. I know many people who prefer Forza to GT4, I know some who prefer PGR2 to GT4. Not everyone likes GT4.

Agreed.

If you did a poll over the entire world population that plays racing games, the GT series would get a hell of a lot more support among players than Forza. My point isn't mute.

Sure there are folks who like Forza more for one reason or another, but overall, GT does it for far more people.

Come on now, S club 7 isn't even the same genre as Faith No More, its like comparing Parappa the Rapper to Half Life 2.

GT and Forza are so similar in intent and genre (exact same thing they're trying to achieve) to each other that its probably easy to just assume the most popular one is the best. Music isn't really similar to how people judge games anyway IMO.
