[PS4] MONDAYS: Aston Martin DBR1/300 1959 - 20:30-21:30BST - Season 2 - Champion SimbaloraFinished

Note - further testing has revealed that there is no "random grid" option available for online racing. This game is seriously deficient in grid options for online and the way that qualifying works is not conducve to the use of long tracks and relatively short meetings which dicatate the use of short qualifying periods - hopefully they will look at and improve this aspect of the game in time for Project Cars 2.

It really needs the following changes:
Introduction of reverse grid option.
Introduction of grid based on previous race result.
Option to start qualifying from the last corner prior to the finish line.
Qualification for incomplete laps based on distance travelled.

All these features are in GT6 and their absence from Project Cars is a problem for hosts.

We will start a practise session, then a 3 lap race with no qualifying. There will be no AI drivers at Round 1. The results from round 1 will not count towards the championship points table - as I expect that the game will simply start people based on order of entry into the room. Hopefully everyone will still enjoy the race.

Sorry for the amateur hour today - I forgot to change to the correct track and also forgot to select my Red number 22 Aston as well - many apologies!

I think the racing will be much better when we get to wider tracks. I was trying to keep my Aston in a straight line, but found it very difficult - on the fastest section near the end of the lap I was struggling to keep it on the tarmac and seemed to be continually weaving. At the end of the race I got down these results:

1 Simba Lora
2 Flaco
3 Paul Bee 58
4 Alex O'Neill
5 Sick Cylinder
6 Buybon
7
8
9
10 Weal 77 - Disconnected

Perhaps you guys could let me know where Max, John and Rich placed. The game doesn't give much time to save replays or write down.

Sorry for leaving promptly - I had to do some urgent chores. It was nice to see some new names joining in and 10 was a good number - hopefully we can build up the numbers further.

I won't be awarding any points for that round as we were not able to do qualifying.

Would be good if you got on mic @Sick Cylinder

Agreed - my mic hasn't been working for a while - needs charging and to have the Bluetooth connection reconfigured - probably beyond my tech skills so I will get some help.

Cheers

Sorry not going to make in it tomorrow, going too do a race in Zero Cup:indiff:

Be at the next round:D

Good luck John and see you next week.

Just a reminder to everyone that we are racing at Rouen Les Essarts today - also I've posted some new photos from the 2017 London Classic Car Show and Historic Motorsport International shows on the club thread.

Round 1 from Rouen Les Essarts

Overall I was pretty happy with round 1. Turnout was a bit low with 7 humans and 3 AI drivers (unfortunately Rich suffered a disconnection which dropped us to 6). The AI provided some welcome competition to the slower drivers like myself and I didn't have any problems with them - I was able to pass at the hairpin, if I braked early and they came past at an area of the track where I had less confidence. Until I lost my concentration I was able to stay ahead of the AI and amazingly was up to 3rd place at one point. Basking in the thought of that was enough to provoke a spin and drop me to 6th then a series of thoughts about my bladder was enough to pick up damage on the car and limp home last human and second to last racer!

settings for round 1 included 10 minutes practise, 10 minutes qualifying and 30 minutes racing. I was a bit late getting the room open and we finished a few minutes behind schedule. For the next round I will reduce the practise to 5 minutes and add a 5 minute warmup so people can take a comfort break before the race start. The AI worked well at level 40 with 3 drivers. I will leave the level at 40, but increase the number of AI to 5 subject to the number of humans - based on experience so far I guess numbers will vary between 6 and 10, but it would be nice to get a few more.

The game keeps running for quite a long time after the race finishes - longer than necessary in my view. I note from the PC2 thread that the new game will feature a cool down lap - hopefully this doesn't make the cool down even longer - it seemed to be about 5 minutes. Please don't be offended if I depart the room during that period.

It was nice to hear people's voices - especially the conversations after the race - I think voice makes it a friendlier experience. I have been running without voice for a few years in an attempt to reduce disconnections. Sadly Rich got disconnected. I will try and get my headset running as it will make it easier to host the meeting, but may need to get a new one as it hasn't been used for a few years.

Congratulations to Simba on the win and his incredible pace, hopefully he can post up a results JPeg - if not then just let me know your finishing position so I can update the championship table - I think I was 8th out of 9.

I'm quite excited that PC2 has been confirmed as featuring Rally Cross as I particularly enjoyed one of the tracks in GT5 which had a tarmac to dirt transition and I am sure PC2 will do this better - hopefully they also add a few classic rallycross cars such as the MG Metro 6R4 and Ford RS200. I recently rediscovered some old photos taken at the Motaquip British Rally Cross Grand Prix at Brands Hatch which I visi ted a few times in the late eighties and early nineties(still trying to work out the year) and will post a few of the best on the club thread.

Below - Pat Doran (I think) RS200 gets it wrong on the brakes at the first corner and spins the 4WD Astra round while the Metros romp off into the distance.

Am I so fast or are you so slow? I don´t know yet.

Of course I did some practise, but Monday at lunch time I was 3 times in the dirt out of five rounds. So I decided not to push too hard at the race. Maybe I should have a look at the replay.

Cheers
