It could be that they have tried the same in GT5 and found it worked?

Kind off, spud skills found a mitsubishi evo setup on here and we tried it on the kusabi and was instantly 0.3 faster. Then we just played about with it. Once we realised everything was backwards we got lewis try an oval setup and it worked perfect.

If I remember rightly, this was one of the ways to get extreme performance out of a car in Forza 3. Due to the way the physics model worked, raising the ride height at the front and lowering at the rear gave you superior performance.

Forza 3 was odd that way. Not only was the car faster if you raised the front and lowered the back but if you also stiffened the front and softened the back it was even faster. Of course this did impact the handling of the car a bit but on oval tracks once you knew the tricks you could get 3-4 more mph out of a car using these methods resulting in much better lap times.

IMO that's just stupid. If the only way to get to the top of the LB's is to use unrealistic tuning setups than that's retarded.

honestly i dont know what u's are talking about, on fm2/3 the ridhight would only work on oval cars. stiffening the front and softening the rear would just cause uber understeer on road cars and funny ridehights would screw with things too. generaly all the fast setups had the ridehight rite down. pretty much every top time on fm2 has an unlocked setup thanks to daveyskills, go back and look at them and ul see that they are all quite "normal" forza 3 has pretty much the same tuning other than the added bump stops to forza 3 meant that you couldnt run the cars as soft on the damping

agreed, but unfortunatly i dont know of any game where "realistic" setups are faster.

I got some of Davey's setups back in the FM2 days. And he used to ne stellar in all classes. Quite amazing chap especially if you watched the replays.

Glad to see some Skills in GT5, should shut those up who are bitching about GT being too easy :-) you show them :-)

Bingo, one answer I was looking for and explains why I'm baffled about tuning in GT5...

Inertia_Skills, thanks for chiming in. I was also a big FM3 guy and you can see my storefront at "Lord Snowden" I did lots of tunning and painting, specifically the entire DTM series... I was the top DTM painter but I'm sure better guys have moved in by now...

Would you have any objections to a friend request to the skills group? I'd like to get better at tinkering as its like a meta game to me... As I used to race bikes and cars in my younger years I often had to set up my own rides. I'm also a "2old4Forza" member, I'm sure you know a few of those guys...

Cheers

not sure i know of them guy's, tbh i only really played with the same bunch of guys. and i only done R class's on fm3. im probably better known on there by my old tag "joyrider" then i changed it to TPR Inertia shortly after i joined TPR.

Usually i dont mind giving out a bit of setup advice once ive worked things out, but i prefair to keep it to the forums because u would be surprised at how many msg's you get to ur console when u start answering questions that way.

At the minute all of us at skills are trying to learn just like everyone else and we dont know how changes affect different cars yet. so atm its hard for me to answer any questions people might have because i dont realy know the answers yet ether. but i think from reading threw this thread that most have worked out what we have done with the kasabi.

well personaly i only got my ps3 the week befor cristmas. i played it for the first two days for about 5 hours after college each day. then i set my kasabi time the next day. the day after i finished college for the holidays and set the time i have now. and i havnt went back to try and beat it because ive been busy over chrismas and new years, il probably play for a couple of hours a night again now that im back at college tomoro, but i do play other games on pc aswell so im not what ud call a gt5 junky. ud probably be suprised at how little i play ;-)

Yeah, there are people who are just good at racing games, it has more to do with how they approach results... Ironicly RL amateur racers aren't nearly as good as pure sim guys as there are so many more active forces and variables in RL, variables with MUCH larger margins of limitation that just aren't in a game... And this is already assuming both know the track equally...

Its this sort of dynamic that is the very reason for the GT Academy program... "Can we take a game racer and make them a real pro race car driver?"

I'm simply not a smooth driver in game, I'm VERY aggressive as I have no element of fear... This leads me personally to over step my boundaries and try and dial back. This is exactly the opposite of what I do on a track in real life... I start out smooth and conservative (almost clinical) and slowly dial up until I find that limit or edge if you will... This edge is 1 part nerves, 2 parts hardware.

The best advice you can give a newer sim racer is to slow down... Test this yourself... Go take 5-10 hard laps on any track, then stop, restart and try to do the smoothest laps possible by not squealing your tires or sliding... 9 times out of 10 you will catch your ghost car and even pass him... This is where I fail, I just love attacking the track as I can't do that as easily in RL when I know the expense of mistakes far outweighs any fear of bodily harm...

Bah GTP_DHolland would own them all

Cool, tell your buddy to head on into the seasonal events and pick a time trial, between the 4 of them I'm sure he will find a preference... I don't see him anywhere on the LB btw... It would be fun if this thread got all competitive...

Reminds me of when I was young and kids would say "My dad can beat up your dad!"... My dad always won btw :P

He's a beast, some of his laps on his youtube chaneel are sick.

Although i would like to see him and other GT beast do it just to see.

Its been like this in all racing titles, which is why I am a supported of fixed setup racing, because people who know the correct way to setup a car are pretty much wasting their time, as people who figure out the "games" best way of setting up a car will be faster. Even iRacing has had several threads discussing unrealistic setups and that sim is almost spot on, but still has some wacky things in the fast setups.

He probably would though, some of his laps on his youtube chaneel are sick.

Thankfully for him he is just playing a game the way he is off in the grass and banging those curbs. :)

Yeah, we call this "spec" racing and I agree, its the most fun to be had... Just set the car and tuning file (or settings with GT5) chosen ahead of time and set a good dozen or so laps...

Am I the only one who regrets having modified the Mazda Kusabi beyond repair just to find out that I can't keep up at all?

Cheers for all the compliments guys, there's a lot more to come when the l/b's release :D ...and I'm sure we'll release tunes at some point...

I think Davey is older than that, 21 is my best guess. I'm 17.

:)

Not being funny but if you knew much about Gran Turismo you'd know he is the one to beat and yer almost won GT Academy.

Daveyskills uses a controller on Forza.
Is he even on GT.
Cool guy, met him in a public lobby one make race.
I came second by a long way. Even saved the replay of him kicking my ass. Lol.

The whole family is coming out now :)

This is because Forza had pretty lousy wheel support and you could do about the same with a controller using a button as the clutch... There was some steering assist you couldn't turn off that somehow equalized the wheel vs. controller advantage... In the end everyone looses because it was obvious and annoying to anyone with "skills"... no pun intended...

It does make me wonder though, us older guys got used to some pretty simplistic games over the years... and these new young guys are jumping right into some pretty decent physics... I wonder if we (the old guys) have more bad habits to drop than new skills to learn... There once was a time when aggression was rewarded... now its smooth discipline thats rewarded...

i have to disagree with your comment about the wheel and controller being equal on forza controller users are at a disadvantage because it is so much easier to be smoother with the wheel if you ask me i think controller users like daveyskills that put down no1 times on a regular basis on forza are the better players cause its alot harder to nail the perfect lap
