I would say no. I only did it because I wanted to win but wouldn't try a stunt like it in actual race...

But I suppose we need clarification
 
Not talking about you, Dan. To be honest, I think you wouldn't do it. But I saw it yesterday from a driver who's new to our group. And I "feared" he may pull it off during a race :)

In fact, seeing you doing that just made me remember I was supposed to ask about this, yesterday!!

The yellow line is track boundary, so you can cross it with two wheels at most.

Just my 2c.

Race distance: 150 km - 26 + 1 laps

Vehicle inspections begin at 19.45 for grid preparation, please do not chat during this time.
Field will then line up in qualifying order after a track reset in order to set the grid for the race.
Race beings and the formation lap roll will commence.

A staggered double-file line is used for our rolling start for the first lap after which the race will begin at the start/ finish line.

( First time pole sitters will be contacted for confirmation of the following regulations)
  • Pole sitter will begin on the left side of the track.
  • Even number position qualifiers will be on the right side lane of the formation. Odd number qualifiers will be in the pole sitters lane on the left side.
  • Once the GT5 race countdown has completed and the race event has begun all drivers must hold position and wait for confirmation from the host to proceed. Use your handbrakes, sit silently, report any suspicious latency between cars or lag jolting/skipping. After the host has given the go ahead all drivers will begin to slowly form up in qualifying order. The leader must act as gatherer, they must not pre-maturely advance from the group, it is their job to keep the pace slow enough until all cars are in position then proceed to formation speed.
  • Even pace at 100 kmh / 62 mph,
  • The pole leader must wait for the grid to line up behind them completely on the start straight before starting the race by applying full throttle at the start/finish line.
  • No weaving is allowed during formation lap.
  • You must not overlap the car ahead of you.
  • Do not pass any car until you're past the point the pole sitter started the race at.
  • Jump starters will be given warnings or penalties depending on severity.
  • If a driver is damaged on formation then the damaged driver must communicate this through text chat and continue at a reasonable speed to the pit area. The other cars will continue on as normal and the damaged car(s) can join the group as they come around for their first lap. At this point the formation lap will continue on for a second lap after which the race will begin. If it happens once more, the same contingency will be applied and a third formation lap will go on. After this, no more "formation restarts" will be acceptable and the affected drivers must either retire or start far behind the group. Drivers experiencing extreme lag will be asked to leave so the other drivers can race.
  • If, for any reason, a driver misses the formation start and stays behind still on the track the race will not go on, it must be restarted to eliminate the obstacle.

Well my internet just kicked over and is having lots of trouble trying to stay connected. I'm on my phone here.
I also manage to have attracted a colossal headache x(.

Taking this as a sign I shouldn't race.

I may actually be Alonso-ish, in the end!! There's always something happening during my races...

Today I was just unlucky, starting with the fact I could not match my best laptimes before the race. Fortunately, by the time we started, I was confident with my speed again. Then race was just unlucky for me. It's strange how just one single little thing can kill a good chance at a decent result!

At least my connection went bonkers only after the race was over.

In any case, I have some thinking to do before the next race. I know for sure that I can't spend what little time I have in practising, if race days are continuing to go this way. It makes me feel like a complete idiot. And it's utterly frustrating. Especially with the car and class combination that I feel I've been quicker with.

Makes me literally want to cry.

In any case, congratulations to everyone who raced today. Continue to make GATE the great championship it's shaping up to be, and PURE, the great series management it is. 👍
 
Still GV 5th isn't that bad, you could have been me. I lost the draft early on and dropped back into a lonely 7th for the rest of the race.. :lol:

I'm fairly happy with 7th though some decent points :). Also Pag with 4th gives Subaru 03 a nice points boost :D.
 
I would never be unhappy with a race where nothing happened and I just didn't go quick enough, to be honest. The reason why I complain most of the time is that there's always something "extra" happening. Be it my own failures, like going off track, or simply bad luck like today. (And at this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if I get disconnected while on the lead next time)

It all comes down to the fact that when "something happens", it makes me feel as though I "deserved" more.

Don't get me wrong, though. I'm not saying 5th is a bad result per se. If the 4 guys at the front just flied away from me from the start, I'd be satisfied. But it wasn't exactly like that.

EDIT: I'm also VERY competitive. It's a problem, since I find it difficult to enjoy a race without the competitive element, but...
 
Personally I'm not much of a fan of draft fests. Even during the first half of the race when I was with the lead pack, I was dozing off :scared: Also, it doesn't help that the BMW is slow in a straight line relative to the other cars.

I'm not going to say I'm looking forwards to Fuji, since that's a pretty draft heavy track as well... but Tsukuba in two weeks should be fun :dopey:
 
I'm glad that's over. I had a horrible race.

My apologies for using the wrong pit exit on my 1st pit stop. I don't race this track cause I hate it and I clean forgot about the left exit. I'll take a penalty if need be.

Well done to the podium getters!!!
 
A group got ahead from the start, GV27, Michouw, Josh and I, and soon Paginas and WiiFreak. Lots of great, clean battling at the front. But it was soon clear that none of us could ever get away from the pack, the draft caught everything.

On lap 9 I lost it at the bus stop exit, and accidentally tapped Alex with my wriggling rear. Alex hit the wall and was then hit by Paginas, with pit stops for both as a result, and not even slight damage to me. To both of you, I am so sorry! :( (also to Paginas, I did not realize what happened to you before watching replay).

They both bravely decided to make it home from there, some 18 laps.

After the normal stops on lap 12-14 a group of Michouw, Josh, Paginas and I got gathered again. Somehow we lost WiiFreak early after the stops. We spent a good number of laps hunting down GV27 who had built a 5 sec lead. But it was only a question of time due to his old tyres.

I decided there was no point in battling until the very last laps, so I set my torque split to 10/90 and cruised at the back of the pack to save the tyres. Around lap 25 torque went back to 25/75 and the race started again.

At the beginning of lap 26 (?) we lost GV27 and Paginas in turn 1-2, their tyres were done. So we were 3 left in front, Josh, Michouw and I.

I was leading into the final lap, and even got 1+ sec ahead by turn 2. But again, there is no escape on this track, with the draft and such an even bunch of drivers. With the finish line in sight I was still in front.

But it is not over before the flag comes down...

Mostly it was a close and enjoyable race, but I must say that 1) I missed Ed, 2) the draft is just too much. Most other tracks are less bad at this fortunately. And I also look so much forward to Tsukuba, I am definitely in the love-Tsukuba camp :D
 
Damn looks like everyones fastest laps were draft laps while mine was all by my lonesome :indiff:.
 
All race I was pretty much stuck at the back, but at least it was an exciting race. Me and OwensRacing were swapping places twice per lap which was exciting but since it was all draft it felt quite generic. I actually pulled only one actual overtaking maneuver on him in turn 3 but even that backfired with excessive drifting on exit.

After my pit stop I came out dead last and after taking IforceV8 I was really working my arms off to slowly slowly catch Owens again. Finally I caught his draft with 5ish laps to go and we started the dance again.

On the last lap I tried overtaking him on the outside going into turn 1 (which was stupid since it wasn't essential to overtake him there anyway, but I was feeling racy) and he lost it a bit bumping my front to the grass and I found myself next to the wall with a busted front corner. He was a gentleman and waited for me to catch up again but I made the wrong decision before the bus stop (and taking it fast with damage was more difficult than expected) so I couldn't take him before the line and had to settle for 9th.

The last time I raced this track was in WSGTC with the ARTA NSX and with the Garaiya this track was a bit of a shocker. The lack of top end speed was a real hindrance but I was content with the car's performance otherwise, so maybe it'll be better on some other track. Looking forward to Tsukuba and Monaco. :)
