Purposely passing out, weird effects

Its not choking, the guy behind applies slight pressure to your chest, not you're throat, and the purpose is to pass out.

It does sound dangerous, but thats why you pass out. Your brain knows why your a deprived of oxygen, because the mouth is not opening under manual control, so your brain goes into autopilot 'passing you out', and opens the mouth and nose up to breath.

Unless you swallow your tongue of course.

Sounds about as fun as stepping infront of a drunk driver on an icy road.

What is wrong with you people? Christ.

Harsh times call for desperate measures.
Everybody wants to escape, some use booze, others choke themselves... who are you to judge?
If you don't understand why stuff like this happens, then you need to pay more attention to what's happening around you.
Empathy dude, look it up.

I remember back in school a rumor was going around on making people pass out by squeezing a certain part of the neck. I think it may be around the area where you feel the pulse of someone when they're unconscious. Maybe it's true if you press hard enough to block the blood flow? Or is it not possible at all?

There was another thing about pressing the temples on your skull beside your eyes hard too, but I cannot remember what they said would happen...

I remember when people at my school used to do this about 8-9 years ago. They would call it "going under".

There are plenty of other safer ways to get a high. I get a high when I'm exercising. Probably not the same kind of feeling but my body gets a hit of adrenaline that is sometimes immense.

I seriously cannot understand the mentality of some people.

This isn't a good thing to do. Mainly because you're not supposed to pass out. The only time you pass out is when something bad is happening, most of the time stemming from some sort of chemical or hormonal imbalance. So causing yourself to pass out is purposely messing up your body which could possibly have as harsh an effect as smoking pot or other drugs have on the body.

I also remember this being a "fad" when I was in middle school. There were several kids that did this a lot and it could be done by pushing the chest after taking some long breaths or squeezing the neck where the two main veins are at the neck (jugular vein??). They are on each side of the throat and you could either use your palms or put your arm around them just right so it only touches those veins. I wont go much further in detail. They would be knocked out instantly and only for a couple seconds. I even tried it a couple times and it does feel like you are out for over 3 or more hours. You even have several dreams. But when you wake up you usually hear a sizzleing noise which to me sounded like brain cells dying. (just a guess) I cant imagine this is good for you at all and I never did it again. Blood not going to the brain for a few seconds cant be a good thing.

I think all kids will try things like this, we did something similar but not as daft as the whole pressure or choking thing.
It entailed crouching on the ground and taking ten very deep breaths, standing quickly and then puffing your cheeks out and blowing really hard but without actually opening your mouth to let the air out - no intervention was required from anyone else.
The combination of the drop in blood pressure and rapid change to the respiratory centre was enough to make us keel over.
Of course I tried it, but having no idea of A+P at that age, I was unaware of any dangers or long term effects to my health.

Doing something like this, with the knowledge it could be harmful is just madness. Although it was a suberb way of getting out of classes (I didn't use it for that, mind) for those who fancied an early hometime

Are you kidding me? As harsh of an effect. Smoking a joint will do nowhere near as much damage as cutting off the oxygen to your brain.

Uh, choking yourself to pass out can kill you, smoking pot can't - end of story.

Look up stupidity before you tell me to look up empathy.
Stupid:
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle French stupide, from Latin stupidus, from stupEre to be numb, be astonished -- more at TYPE
1 a : slow of mind : OBTUSE b : given to unintelligent decisions or acts : acting in an unintelligent or careless manner c : lacking intelligence or reason : BRUTISH
2 : dulled in feeling or sensation : TORPID
A trait commonly found in people lacking empathy. ;)

Good points, I suppose I exagerated when I posted that.

Why would anyone feel empathy for people who intentionally put their lives at risk? They have a choice. Help is there. They can choose to use the help or not to. Harming yourself to get attention is utterly unacceptable because it puts emergency services under unnecessary pressure. Just like the idiots who go out get and bladdered, cause a fight, get beaten up and then expect to be treated by paramedics.

Empathy
Function: noun
Etymology: Greek empatheia, literally, passion, from empathEs emotional, from em- + pathos feelings, emotion -- more at PATHOS
1 : the imaginative projection of a subjective state into an object so that the object appears to be infused with it
2 : the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another of either the past or present without having the feelings, thoughts, and experience fully communicated in an objectively explicit manner; also : the capacity for this

I think you're mixing up sympathy for empathy.

As i predicted, someone did get passed out today. This time was a bit funnier though. When this guy passed out, he made a kind of aaaaaahhhhh sound (like the pleasure aaahhh but a bit deeper). He also violently shook twice until waking up and repeatedly saying "OH MY GOD". After all the laughter was over we asked him what he saw and he said all he could tell was that he was going really fast.

That was the last time the teacher said he would let it happen because he allowed this one to happen, but im sure somebody else will do it by the end of the school year.

I also did something you guys will call me retarded for, but i don't really care. What the kids were originally doing, which they were also doing today, were at first getting really lightheaded, then taking in a deep breath while someone put their arm around the persons neck for a short amount of time. Well, i decided to try it, and once the kid behind me let go and i breathed out, it had to be one of the coolest feelings i've ever felt, and it left me feeling awesome for the next period or so.

Another kid who did what i did, who had also been doing it Friday, did it to the point were he was aware of what was going on, but his whole body would just go limp. I had to save him from falling on the floor twice.

Id rather have you guys just converse about this, but i know its just going to be a million posts calling me, and the other people retarded so, haze away.

hahaha.. I can imagine a whole lot of kids in the playground making each-other pass out to get a "high".:dunce:
How about you take a video of it, and post it on this thread!💡

BTW...Isn't the whole auto-erotic-asphixiation thing how Michael Hutchence (INXS) died?:nervous:

well i don't know who that is but its very possible. Usually the people who do that use other objects such as belts, but end up killing themselves by not being able to get it off their neck, or because they don't know when to stop and give theirselves some air.

So can I take you to McWahnolds for a wahbuger and some french cries?

Agent Smith – I don’t want to be held up if I go to the emergency room because staff are busy trying to save someone who tried to get high by choking himself. It’s as simple as that.

They think they know the limits, they think they’re only affecting themselves, and they’re wrong. On both counts.

Oh, TEAMDiablo3, you may not care what happens to you, whether you die or get brain damage. But I’m sure your family would. Think about what it all could mean before you try that **** again.

That's very humanitarian of you, but I have no idea what you guys are going on about. I don't condone this behavior or sympathize with people who hurt themselves.
Again, empathy is not sympathy.

Ok ok... so bets on who's "gonna go first" Agent smith or Team Diablo. Oh, man I gotta dub ^ the highlight of my day.

Lets put it this way... I wouldn't miss you or your "friends" and I think a lot of people would agree. I few less idiots around is a plus for me.

That's because, as explained at length by numerous people here, this sort of tomfoolery can kill you, young 'un.

I suppose it's the fault of the Gut-damn pulp fiction hacks for making everyone believe that knocking a person out is simple, easy, and has no long lasting detrimental effects.

Any doctor can tell you that's plain stupid. You know how careful you have to be when knocking a person out with a cudgel? A little too little force and he's got nothing but a headache and stitches (believe me, I know, as someone tried to knock me out with a lead pipe, once). A little too much force, and he's dead. If you've ever followed the superlights in boxing, you'd know this.

Choking isn't all that simple, either. Hold on a little too long and the other kid might not wake up. Oxygen starvation is no joke. High school kids here have died at fraternity initiations, simply by passing out from exhaustion and going comatose. Not everyone is created equal, and while your average sixteen year old might not suffer any long term effects, there's always the kid who might not make it.

And from passing out once or twice, myself... I struggle to see what's "cool" about it... of course, I don't get the point of alcohol or marijuana, either. I prefer my head screwed on straight.

Kid, if you want a "safe" high, go smoke a joint. It may be a bit more illegal (I wonder if choking counts as attempted murder? I guess we'll find out if some fool kid does it to an asthmatic...), but it won't kill you.
