When I fired up GT5 today I noticed my sound system was displaying 'DTS' on the little monitor/screen of the speakers, which was odd because this has never happened before.

I checked the audio settings on GT5 and it said the game was outputing to 'DTS'

Then when I went into a race, engine sounds were very quiet compared to the rest of the game, and if i crashed into a wall it would be very loud compared to the sound of the car/engine. Also when I changed my car the start up engine sound would be very quiet too.

It seems Only the engine sounds were effected by the 'DTS' output to my speakers.

What is DTS output? and how can I change the settings from DTS?

thanks guys 👍

First I'd check your PS3 sound settings. Go in there and there's check boxes, one of which is for DTS. If you don't like it, choose Dolby Digital or something else.

Next you can try the in-game audio settings in Options.... there's a setting in there for your home theatre set up... you can change it to either living room, small theatre or large theatre. That does make a difference.

Then there's your amplifier.... how's that all set up?

Don't forget about your audio adustments in the setup menu of GT5 as there are separate adjustments for Sound Effects along with music. These adjustments are for in game, in menu, and replay. There are also adjustments for your sound system along with small room or large room adjustments.

I assume you are using HDMI? Also verify in your audio setup on the PS3 that your HDMI is set to linear and not bitstream (unless you are using a slim model).

My ew surround works best with Dolby digital not dts don't know the difference but I have also bought a tos link switch so I can have direct from source and not piped up a hdmi cable(i have a sat box for tv)

My sound is through an optical cable into a bose lifestyle 38 surround sound and on the display it reads dts: 5.1
Im pretty sure that's dolby. That's what I have setup for the ps3 settings. Im pretty sure I set audio to the same in gt5 settings as well but may take a closer look.
