The Valiant and Lancer were platform-mates those 2 years and the front ends were the only major difference. And then just to confuse you more, the Valiant and Lark had a similar sized and shaped grille. So, understandably easy to mistake them for each other. :D

Yup. Although the original sounds a bit interesting now that you mentioned it having a Peugeot 406.
 
Nissan frontier with a pointless spoiler to make it look "sporty".

The weight it adds probably helps keeps the rear down more than the actual downforce.
