Any rule or is it courteous to queue up at low speed narrow corner in real racing? I found the AI would queue up and not jumped the queue.

Do you mean overtaking? If so, then there's some circumstances that you are able to overtake. In a narrow, low-speed corner like you mentioned, if the corner is narrow enough to only allow 1 car to pass through safely -- even if the corner has space for 1/2 of a car -- then you'll have to queue your move to another corner.

If you can safely overtake then go for it, but otherwise it's advisable to queue up to avoid causing an accident. The AI isn't particularly 'intelligent' when it comes to overtaking so they just follow each other round.

If you cannot be bothered to race a full endurance race you can park your car across a narrow corner and the AI will patiently wait for you to get out of the way, even if you leave it that way for hours.

The AI constantly yields when you overtake, but I'm not sure if they do on corners. I tried it several times and they yield upon exit, but they don't around mid-corner.

Haha gotta try this :) what track and corners in the endurance races can you do this? Has anyone tried it??

Do you think that would work on the carousell bit on nurburgring? It's would make the 24h endurance a hell of a lot easier :)

I just thought it was unfair to overtake while others was intentionally queue up. I saw Macau racing, there was an about 270 degree and 1.5-car wide corner, of course it could not overtake exactly at the corner; however right before the corner, the track had more width but I found the racers did not overtake but queue up there in the order of arrival. I thought there was rule prohibiting overtaking at that corner.

Yes I believe it works well at the Karrusell. The thread I originally read about it in was on about the Nurburgring endurance races.

I'm going to have to give that a shot , been putting off the Nurburg 24hour for months now, if I can park at Karrusell and leave it I'll start it tonight

Back to the OP:

There are several corners in the game where it is advisable to get single file. By attempting an overtake on super-tight turns, you destroy any chance that both drivers had of getting any speed out of the turn.

Obviously sometimes you have to make a move, but often times it's best to simply fall in line.

It doesn't work, I've tried it 3 times now and each time the AI either driver straight round me or else they will reverse then drive round me. 👎

I didn't mean to overtake exactly at the tight corner but the wider track right before the corner. The AI (or racers in real racing) queued up before the tight corner and waiting to turn one by one; and was is courteous/fair to jump the queue to overtake them before the corner? Because they arrived first right before the corner and they slowed down just because of the blockage(slow speed corner) at the corner.

I think this is a circumstance where real life and GT5 need to be separated...one of the many haha.

If you are seeing this 'queuing' phenomenon in GT5, I can almost guarantee you that this is due to the poor AI. Whether the corner in question is a passing spot or not (regardless of how narrow it is), the AI will probably take it single file. There are very few corners in the game where an AI driven car of equal HP and/or PP will overtake an opponent on corner entry or mid corner (AI overtaking through means of late breaking or trying to hold inside position in a 2 wide scenario usually results in one or both cars ending up off the race track). The vast majority of AI overtaking occurs on corner exit (by simply out dragging the opponent down the next straight), or in the draft. To answer your original question, 'is it fair to overtake opponents that are taking a tight corner single file', I would say absolutely, go for it. If you are like me, and don't like to simply plow each AI car out of your way, then yes, you may have to 'queue up' in certain tight corners/sections (the hairpins on Cote d'Azure come to mind) to . However, that doesn't mean that you should feel guilty overtaking opponents under breaking going into said tight section.

As far as real life racing is concerned (by no means do I consider myself an expert, but I do think I have a decent understanding of most racing leagues) , there is no league, club, or professional series where a rule forcing drivers to take all, or just certain corners single file is implemented. There is always a chance something like this could be enforced in certain forms of amateur competition, but certainly not in a professional race. That being said, in certain forms of professional racing, it isn't unheard of to prohibit overtaking in a certain corner/section on a certain track. This would likely only happen in a race taking place on public roads, and would be specific to the track (sort of like individual ground rules for baseball stadiums), not a rule of the league/series. Of course, in basically ever professional racing series, overtaking of any kind is prohibited during a caution flag (either full course, or local).

Bump them out of the way!! There's no attrition in Gt5 if your car needs a "Restore Chasis" anyway, just don't wipe yourself out. A1 drivers will hit you after all. Be a bit more polite if your on-line though.

Thank you twitcher for the information. I learned a lot from that. Actually I know we can do anything we like in the game but if we follow the single file as AI do at tight corners, it will post difficulty in the race. As the hired drivers in BSpec, they usually queue up at tight corner.

For 'queuing' phenomenon was due to poor AI, I just think it was the GT5 designer/programers' intent for some reasons.

Maybe PD patched the AI ( I doubt it though). I haven't tried it myself (i'm waiting for the race saves before I start the long enduros) but it's a bit annoying if it doesn't work :grumpy:
