Sony stated that with the release of the official type pad which clips to the controller they would be pushing more support for the device as well as mouse support... Basically what im saying is that with an official product now out devs will hopefully be more obliged / willing to make use of it.....

In my opinion a console will be more worth it because it's a lot more cost effective. But it all depends, as others have said, on what type of games you like.

There are some good racing games on PC, lots of RTSs like Command & Conquer (there is a X360 version but it doesn't work too well), and simulators etc that have never worked well or even been released to console. But buying a console will guarantee you don't have to pay out for expensive upgrades for many years to come and will likely increase reliability (I say "likely" because there have been occasional blu-ray failures on PS3s appearing).

But, if you like FPSs then consoles have lots of them (despite the lack of keyboard and mouse some games are still fine with pad, like COD4), fun action and platforming games like Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, fun smaller downloadable games like Super Stardust HD, Pixel Junk Racers, Warhawk, etc, that will probably never be seen on PC.

I would still go console though - with the money you will save you could probably afford a PC in the near future anyway. :)

You mean this....?

Looks like it will make the controller top heavy, and is in no way, shape or form a replacement for my good old bluetooth mouse & keyboard.

Handy for typing messages, but nothing more. Most def useless for FPS games.

I think this thread will just confuse you more to the decision your trying to make LOL You want games and no fuss media get the PS3 you need a system which also dose the work stuff you need a PC, but this you already know. What you need to think is the longer I put off getting either system the more time I'm missing out.....you can get the PS3 sooner than the PC ie this year! get the PS3, then save for the PC that way you have 2 sysytems each quite different from the other. It's not a decision about which is best rather which will give you more enjoyment....4 months waiting to play a PC game is less fun than jumping in to the PS3 now or very shortly LOL

On a side note, forget that blister enducing controler keyboard (check out R1 / R2 poistion) and get one of these if your short on space for a keyboard blue tooth, and made of fabric, just roll it up when your not using it!

Actually, some games do support mouse & keyboard on PS3. Unreal Tournament III is one of them.
Let me put it this way- Far too few use it. And far too few PC only designers recognize that they can now port to consoles without fear of gimped controls (I'm looking at you Blizzard).

Doubtful, the Logitech Bluetooth keyboard has been out for well over a year.

Possibly the lack of support is because it is $80. Of course, any USB keyboard will work.

Anyway, 99% of my issues are due to developers.

....thats why theres never been a FPS made for a console, let alone a good one

Where have you been hiding the last 13 years?? Under a rock it seems!

FPS games have been huge in consoles since the PS1 in 1995, also, 90% of XBOX 360 titles are FPS games.

What do you call Timeshift, Quake 4, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament III, Call of Duty 1, 2, 3, 4 AND soon to be 5?!?!

Also there's Half-Life (all of them) which is one of the best FPS games EVER.

Admitedly all the ones I have mentioned above are on PC as well, but it doesn't make them any less of a good game because its played on a different machine!

If you were reffering to no FPS games made specifically for a console, then what about Black and Killzone??

I meant for RTS games, not FPS games (I think FPS games on consoles are fine as they are).... this pad would be useful to select units because all you would be doing is pressing the numbers which is all you really do with a full size keyboard anyway. If you can plug your mouse into this then its perfect!

As for being heavy I seriously doubt its heavy enough to make the controller lean forward especially on the DS3 with the rumble motors mounted in the opposite direction. If you hold the controller in the middle it will try to tip towards you.. with the pad it would probably equal it out. All its going to be is some wires to a membrane and some small LED's... so it isnt going to weigh much.

Sony said more games with pad support and mouse support, im just relaying what they said, whether they deliver is another story.

I was being sarcastc "theres NEVER been a FPS made for a console" I personaly hit COD 4, BF BC GRAW2 and R6V2 weekly! Theres allways been this PC statement that FPS must use a keyboard and mouse to control them.....neither 2 things were desighned for games.........and a "game" pad just dosn't work right.......Myself and countless others on the PS3 and 360 don't seem to have a problem.

I find a PC to be a far better investment then any console because you can do so much more with it. The only thing I can not do on my PC that I can do on my PS3 is watch Blu-Ray films. However there are hundreds of things I can not do on my PS3 that I can do on my computer. I do a lot of digital music creation and mixing, run DJ programmes, write papers, create vast databases, and much, much, more.

Also once you have the PC built you can swap out components to stay current with the latest and greatest programmes. Unless I'm mistaken, which is case someone can correct me, I think the only thing you can swap out on the PS3 is the hard drive. I built my PC a couple years ago and since then have updated the video card and RAM, but other then that I'm still able to play current games.

This is not to say the PS3 isn't a great piece of hardware, it's a powerful gaming machine and can act as a good media device, but that's about it. However, out of all the consoles available on the market right now you can probably get the most use out of a PS3 as it seems to do more then the 360 or the Wii.

Yea, it'll probably be fine for RTS games like you said, but I doubt you'll be able to connect a mouse to it.

A mouse would most likely either have to be bluetooth or USB and connect directly to the PS3.

As for the weight issue, we'll just have to wait and see.

yes, your right, a mouse & keyboard were not specifically designed for gaming, but you cant deny that they are much quicker/more responsive and accurate for FPS games than any console controller once you get used to it.

The thing is this: a mouse was not designed as a device for gaming, but it has one specific advantage over a controller: the aiming. With a mouse, you aim directly by moving your hand where you want to point your gun at. With a controller, you steer the gun to the position where you want it to be. That may be okay for a high speed arcade fun FPS, but for more serious games, speed and precision are vital. Here, a controller simply won't beat a mouse.

Yes a mouse is more acurate I agree but a pad dose not hinder me when playing a console FPS, especialy when everyone else is using the same pad. It's not an issue for me I don't have any less fun or find it harder. The issue I have is when PC guys say a pad "dosn't work on a FPS" It dose and it works absaloutly fine, if it didn't everyone wouldn't buy FPS on a console unless the developers stuck in the ability to use a mouse and keyboard.

It's a well known fact that without a keyboard and mouse FPS games don't work, thats why theres never been a FPS made for a console, let alone a good one

I was thinking like you before I bought a next-gen console but then I realize fps games will work on consoles. by the way there is a controller called fragFX for PS3. It allows you to play games with a mouse ;)

A controller pad works for FPS, but a keyboard and mouse seem to work better for FPS's. I played Call of Duty 4 on the PS3 and thought it was good but I ultimately bought it for the PC because it was easier to control, thus allowing me to have more fun with the game. The same thing can be said for Oblivion (although why anyone would buy the console version is beyond me with the thousands of free mods out there for the game).

RTS games tend to work better with a PC set up as well, although Civilization: Revolution worked out fairly well on the PS3 but it was clear that the game was built with consoles in mind.
