If someone's looking for a 7+ Seater Luxo SUV, what would you suggest to them?
Price is NOT a factor. It'd be replacing an '00 Riverrock Grey Lexus LX470.

Audi Q7? How far off is it?

:odd: thank god money is a factor... I bet you those POS would get worse gas mileage than an indy or nascrap car. :dopey:

The Audi Q7 will debut in ten months - specifically early June 2006.

Have you considered a Dodge Durango Limited or a Ford Expedition King Ranch? Before you outright dismiss those two because they aren't from premium brands, I suggest you have a look on Dodge's and Ford's website - they can give you all the features of any pricey luxury SUV and save you tens of thousands of dollars.

Yukon Denali, Suburban LT (or whatever the top trim level is now... Z-71 mabye?), Range Rover. X5 maybe? I'm not sure if it is 7 seater or not.

It's not. And speaking of the trash that is the X5, did you know that it's got less cargo volume than the X3? Actually it's sort of hard to fault the X5 for that given its age, but still it's somewhat interesting.

Got another one if you've got lots of money to burn - Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen. Although I highly doubt it's ability to pull lateral G's.

You can find a lot of things in a G-class - like a 1970s design and chassis - but one thing you won't find is seven seats.

The Suburban and Yukon XL are dismissed because they are TOO big. We're looking for something that's LR3/LX470 size.

I don't doubt the Expedition or Durango, but, the car is for my mom (and dad, on mediocre days when he can't drive his GranSport), and they much prefer the feel of European cars/Japanese cars. I think they feel much more car-like, probably because they aren't built on Truck platforms.
The G-Cube, X5, RangeRover, and *I Think* XC70 don't have 7+ seats.

I'm commited to finding the strangest solution to this problem possible.
-Toyota Mega Cruiser
Good thing you're outside reality, this justbarelynotahummer isn't availible in any real US markets.
-Lexus RX400h: Is this in production yet? Did your mom like the old RX?

I have a newspaper article somewhere about a company (Everest) that luxuryfies full size trucks (and probably SUVs too). I'll post their website if I can find one.

1) The RX400h is in production for a few months now (or maybe just two?)
2) She had a LX
3) The RX will ALWAYS and always has only seat 5.
IF we wanted five seats, we wouldn't be shopping for one of these...we have a Cayenne anyways!

In that case, you're dismissing the two best vehicles in the segment, bar-none. And I suggest you drive both Expedition and Durango, each of which are more carlike than the LX470, which not only was built on a truck platform, but a truck platform dating to 1998, no less. You could also wait for the Jeep Commander. But at the end of the day, it is my contention that not buying American is making a mistake in the large SUV segment.

Same story, I think.
I meant XC90, the XC actually does seat 7. (rear facing third row)

A third row of seats is a $5100 option on the Volvo XC90 2.5T, a $2100 option on the XC90 T6, and standard on the new XC90 V8. I myself had a three-row model in 2003.

only for the american market. they did have optional sidesaddle (sideways facing) seats in the back.

yes i have personally seen them.

and BTW a superlative chassis at that. 👍

i think the QX56 is hideous.

i like the LR3 although its 2000lbs too heavy.

id just get a denali XL

I've seen Gelaendewagens in Colorado and Texas with those seats, but unless I'm wrong that only ups seating capacity to six - two in the front, two on each side.

im not talking about the ones that supercede the rear seats. the ones im talking about are like the ones in the discovery, small seats that fold down from the side. one on each side.

Oh yeah - Montero had those too, and Land Cruiser. In the Japanese cars, they clipped to a thing above the rear left and right windows, so you couldn't see out any of the windows.

Aha! I can't belive I didn't think of this yesterday.

Coggiola T-Rex.
Yes, there's only 50, but I'm ignoring the 'at least 1001' rule on the grounds that it's no fun. :p

Because it seats seven, presumably. The LM002 appears, in spite of it's size, to seat four.
Besides, it's probably cheaper to maintain, I think it looks better, and it's so much slower that everyone will be impressed. :D

How about the Acura MDX? 3 row seating standard

the VW Tuareg is also pretty slick. Granted, VW isn't known as a luxury make, but they've got some very nice cars now. I'm also not sure if there's a third row on this one.

Subaru also has the Tribeca 9 out... I don't know just how it'd match with a luxury make or even to a Ford Explorer, but it seems alright (although a bit ugly)

Other than that, I'm with M5. Ford isn't exactly a luxury name, but they know suv's better than all the other companies. Same goes to Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep.

The MDX is definetly something to consider -- although the current one is getting pretty dated.
The Touareg, being the same as the Cayenne we have, only seats five.
The B9 Tribeca, to my knowledge is much lower-end vehicle, much like a Explorer or XL7.
