I just received a message saying check-in from 2pm, dinner at 7.30pm. Meet in reception at 9am the next day to head over the Mercedes World.

I am not a big GT5 player so you'll face little competition from me for the final places! Looking forward to the day though and the driving experience should be great fun 👍 (although when they say 'you will also have the chance to experience the real 6.3 litre V8 powered Mercedes SLS AMG supercar on our unique handling circuit', do you think it will be a passenger ride?).

What is a reasonable time around TGTT in a stock SLS AMG? My biggest concern is coming last! :nervous:

I've been told to bring my driving license...

There is definitely a driving experience (off-road too I believe) - I was just wondering whether they'll actually put us at the wheel of the SLS AMG. It's a shame that the real driving doesn't form part of the qualifying process 💡

Dear Frazer Pollock,

Congratulations once again on getting through to the final of the Mercedes Live Race.

As one of our 24 finalists it is our pleasure to welcome you to Mercedes-Benz World, Weybridge, Surrey, on Monday 5 September 2011 to take part in a qualifying round to be in with a chance to race Formula One™ legend David Coulthard head to head in a battle of virtual vs. reality racing.

In addition to the qualifying round, you will also have the chance to experience the real 6.3 litre V8 powered Mercedes SLS AMG supercar on our unique handling circuit, as well as enjoy an exciting day out with your guest.

The final showdown is guaranteed to be a dramatic 15 minute race where the finalist with the fastest lap time will win an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2011 Brazilian Grand Prix in November.

In addition we are looking forward to welcoming you and your guest to the Brooklands hotel, a luxury boutique 4 star spa hotel in Weybridge on Sunday 4 September where you will able to enjoy a relaxing afternoon/evening with us.

We’d also like to remind you that a full valid photo card driving licence and paper counter part will be required in order for you to participate in the driving activity.

Please find your joining instructions below.

We look forward to welcoming you on Sunday.

Kind regards,

Rosie Kenworthy

Just general info for people who want to be kept fully up to date......

Also just for peoples infomation, It is my 32nd birthday on the 3rd, ie tomorrow, you can all feel free to bring along a massive sellection of presents for me too :)

I was informed that...

I am delighted to confirm that as part of your experience you will be invited to drive the real Mercedes-Benz SLS around the MB World test track. Can you please bring your driving licence to qualify for this test drive.

While I'm there for a slightly different reason, I'd assume that goes for everyone.

I hate to say it but i would assume you are getting preffered treatment as you are there as a reporter for GTP so they will be pulling the stops out for you.

I have sent a message out to all ten people that have posted on here confirming they are going. I will be taking one of my two PS3's and also my copy of the game so maybe we can meet up and have a mess about with it :)

Out of interest how are people practicing? I am driving a totally stock SLS round the TGTT and my best time so far is 1:16.929. How does this compare with you guys?

It does make me wonder how many GTP members will be there that arent as active on here will be attending. It will i think be a brilliant marker as to how dominant GTP is in the gran turismo world.

I signed up for GT Planet when I was chosen, but I have been using GTP for years to check out news about the game. Never used anything else. Sorry I never signed up earlier.

Keith

I wonder if our drinks will be covered in this deal trip :) If so i think we might all have a fair bit of fun :)
"the mercedes benz gran turismo challenge was a real success and has prooved that gran turismo planet drivers are so brilliant at the game they can all give blistering times whilst VERY hung over"

I am driving stock SLS AMG, no driving aids, traction control at 0 and ABS at 5. Been using 2 tyre compounds, SPORTS HARD and COMFORT SOFT. Dont know what we'll get on the day but i doubt it will be Racing tyres.

What tyre compound have anyone else been using? What did you use for your time TheFraggle?

I have been practising using comfort soft and sports hard tyres (and struggling badly!). Everything I think I am making progress I realise I have an assist on - traction control and ABS most recently. I really dislike TGTT! Do you they'll let me keep the braking line on ?:dunce:

so, David Coulthard drives a real AMG SLS which as every driving aid known to man, he knows his track, probably practiced a ton, and we GT5 gamers have to be blindfolded until the seasonal comes out? Still , Awesome, and like with every other Seasonal, there will be Gold.

I doubt it, but who knows. I'm not the person who is writing the rules. Just keep at it. ;)

Although I was only joking, I would take it! I'm in 1:19s with comfort softs. And have been at it all week :-( That still puts me ahead of Stig's 1:21.6 according to fastestlaps.com so I wonder how they will even it out. Assuming it is around TGTT of course...

I really wouldn't expect it to be the TGTT..... because it is simply too obvious.....

And whats to say that DC won't be flown by helicopter to/from the specially selected track on the day? Meaning it could be any of the top tracks the UK has to offer...... Also bere in mind Kaz has said that there is plenty of new content to come throughout September and October, plus there is Maintenence on Wednesday the 7th, meaning IF there is another patch download, new tracks could/will be added including said track being used on Monday....

Also, remember that custom variations of Eifel for example have been used in the past (take GT Academy) so I really wouldn't put it past them to have a track ready that is not currently in the game for everybody to be testing out ;)

I dunno, I'm just speculating here, but who knows..........

If you check the weather on the Mercedes Benz Site and weather on the town of guildford UK (closest to TGTT) You'll see than they've got the same temperature, so at this point is a 99.99% possible than the track is TGTT

This might sound a little blunt but i really would read thing about the challenge before making comments like that as what you have said goes against EVERYTHING that has been in the press releases. And more to the point they can release any noew tracks they want on the 7th as the challenge is on the 5th.

Is there a track at MB world?

I have been round the Mercedes track a couple of times and it really isnt a fast track. Its fairly short and is twisty. It would be a perfect go kart track but not really for full size cars i dont think. It was done to show off what the cars car do and how they grip and handle. there is only one high speed corner from what i remember and it isnt as quick as you might think. As i say, its a technical track.

There have been 8 members posted in this thread (plus saidur_ali's brother) to say they're going.

-----

I'm only 395 miles away...

I'm going as guest too. I feel close now being only just over 110 miles away.

I think my brother will take the place of being last as he has yet to practice and he does not play the game at all. Only the real driving part he might finish higher up. He has attempted to drive a few times on the steering wheel and keeps on spinning out or crashing in GT5. Now if only I could swap his place when it comes to GT5 driving, I think I could get into the top 6 but oh well.

I wonder if our drinks will be covered in this deal trip :) If so i think we might all have a fair bit of fun :)

£50 maximum spend you get on food and drink. Look at the terms and conditions, http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/content/unitedkingdom/mpc/mpc_unitedkingdom_website/en/home_mpc/passengercars/home/passenger_cars_world/gt5_terms_conditions.html.

This part is interesting:

The Race Day Participants will, at Mercedes-Benz UK Limited’s sole discretion and judgement, be assessed in terms of skill and ability in the driving experiences as well as their qualifying lap times on PlayStation’s Gran Turismo™ 5.

Is that time, standing start, if so it is a decent time I would say, close to the limit. I think a low 16's for standing start could be doable if the fastest Div 1 Gold drivers attempted it and low 14's from rolling start. I wonder if the top GTP players on here will do the seasonal event. I think DC will be lucky to be in the top 500 depending on how many participate. There is a lot of advertising on YouTube going on for the event, so maybe they are trying to get on the Guinness Book of World Records by getting as many people to compete in a live race.

I don't get to drive the real SLS or participate in the competition as seasonal event or drive live but I'm happy as I will be able to maybe meet a few famous faces. I got the perfect thing to get signed, the SLS model car that I got with my signature edition. I hope they have got T500RS instead of the DFGT's as I want to try one and out and see how much better it is.

I think this is what you guys will get to do in the real SLS AMG driving part.

Track temperatures not looking good fellas!!

Does GT5 have very cold weather:nervous:

If it is raining DC has no chance but it could be used as good PR talk that the game is realistic as I think in the dry he will be at least 3-4 seconds a lap slower. If they force GT5 players to use Comfort Mediums or Softs, at least it will be more competitive for DC if in dry conditions.

So how fast are everyone now at the track and please state if from standing or rolling start? It will be interesting to see how fast the people who are not GTP members are. I wonder if a certain Edward got picked.

Definately a wet race then :)

But the Video footage with the sls on that DC video clip looked like the Isle of Man TT course... we can dream!

It will be most likely be the Top Gear track. It will be funny if it is the London track in the game though. Everyone will be wait, London... I've only been practicing on the Top Gear Test Track. The qualifying round to get in the top six might be a different track as well.

I see people don't want to let on how fast they are which I can understand from a competitors point of view. Anyway tomorrow we will all find out who will be favourite to win. Anyone done a 1 Min 14 on a rolling start yet (Got to try and get a seriously fast person to respond ;))?
