Best Racing Mod For a Car:
(not sure)

I don't knock tuner car fans, but I'm sure you'll be able to have suitable and functional aero wings so that you can better tune for aerodynamics. I think the biggest benefactor has to be the street cars. You know, like with Speed World Challenge here in America and Canada. If you have a sedan or hatchback that you made into a racing machine, you want to at least add a wing to adjust the rear wing. In one case, I would like to have a specified rear wing to better improve better rear-end downforce. By the way, 98Cobra, I'm pretty sure there will be more than one Mustang. I don't know if I want to put a rear wing on for the Shelby Cobra. it's a beautiful classic American car and one of my personal favorite American cars (even though AC made it first).

To me, racing mods came down to take a car, give it a new aero package, style it up with graphics, and you got a race car. Of course, you couldn't see through the insides of the car (big comparison now, of course!), so how can you tell if a car has been race modified especially from the inside? Of course, youll see rollbars and stuff.

I'll go back to watching this rerun of this year's Goodwood Revival. I have commentary in the future for there in the "Drifting and Other Motorsports" forum. Tiff Needell and Derek Bell are among some of the racers.

Anyhow, carry on.

as long as they are not "ricey" like NFSU, i'm definatly down with that...i want Aero kits, not ugly useless body kits....and no big dragwings on civics :irked:

I doubt it. I think the adjustable spoilers are for car that already have them on (GT cars/F1 cars)...

There is a recent interview around from the completion event, that states that in The GT auto section as as well as Oil change, Car wash Wheel shop, apparently 600 types! there is also a section for Wings/Spoilers.

say HKS or APEX'i are available as tuners in the game...i wonder if you can outfit HKS parts on all cars or just the ones that actually use HKS stuff in real life...say you are tuning a Skyline R31 or an old skool Supra...would you be able to take it to the HKS booth and outfit it with turbos, exhausts, etc or will the parts only fit to newer tuner cars?

I think it would be nice if you could pick what kind of racing modification you could buy. Like different body kit styles and colors.

They're not ricey.....they make it look like track cars or race cars depending on the car.

i believe that all kits must have a purpose...they must add performance to that car with subtle aesthetic improvements....performance over looks....thats what it's all about 👍

Has anyone from Sony or PD confirmed it yet?
No, but I bet it wont be in. Nothing has been said about it for over a year now. It's like the drift compettion mode. Nada.

I think PD wanted to increase the GT4 car count by keeping racing car versions of cars seperate from their consumer counterparts.

In the "Gt first flight" thread it says there will be wings avalible but you hafta to read it for more info.

i don't mind if its back, but i'd certainly like more possibilities in colours and stuff. 1 or 2 selection just didn't cut it. Especially if there will be a 'multiplayer' or 'Online' version coming shortly. There's nothing i hate more then racing generic - same colour- cars.

It's sad cuz some idiots actually believe that.

Sure is sad. My question is this... How does one "race mod" a car and then decide what "class" he/she is going to race it against.

What is the point of getting a Honda whatever, put a set of wings and body kit on and race it against another bunch of Honda whatevers that don't have the same mods carried out on them?

I guess motorsport organising bodies have classes for a reason, so there is some parity...

Is the game smart enough to decide what level of mod equates to which class in GT?

Sure I would like to have the ability to mod a car when I race against myself (time trial etc.) to find out just how quick I can go, but for me, it would not add anything to the racing part of the game.

Most 'wings' you see that have been added to street cars are just adding drag and giving little if any downforce benefits, thus technically making the car slower...

Racing mods in GT4, is welcome, but I'd like to see it in limited capacity, maybe it can only be done to cars with some kind of 'racing heritage'.

Totally agree, the amount of DF they produce on the street would be in most cases negligible making them just a ricey tack-on.

There is no tanglible effect until about 200km/h and even then ... It's rather sad how people tack wings on thinking it looks good and it'll make them go faster. As that song Nobody likes a Bogan goes: "He drives a VK Commodore with Alloy Wheels and a home-made spoiler made of cr@ppy steel. Pair of fluffy dice and all the other toys but his No Fear sticker is his Pride and Joy."

Racing - mods had three purposes in first GT game:

1. to allow you to have non-racing and racing-modificated version of the car,
2. to allow you to have cars that can race in legendary "country vs. country" races with stock-cars that can't be won in normal rewarding process, and
3- to have those sweet "R" badges in front of the car in car-list, feature that I mourn for from the first GT.

Not nessacerily, a spoiler can be a lip that gets put on the boot or above the rear window. And a wing is a wing. I think thats right anyway.

I think cars can have "chin spoilers" too, like on the 2003/2004 Mach1's.

Great to know that for now 👍
That clears the thing , I guess.

Right, the difference between a spoiler and a wing seems to be a bit unclear here. Thankfully I get a bit of aerodynamics on my engineering course at college.

Basicly a spoiler can be fitted to the front or rear of a car. The reason being that the avarage car has more or less an aerofoil shape (flat underside, curved on top). At speed, and this already takes effect at 50km/h or 30mph and up, this creates positive lift on either the front, but usualy the back of the car. A spoiler forces the flow of air to seperate from the surface of the car and 'spoils' the curved shape of the car body. this reduces lift and the effect can be quite considerable if placed well.

To seperate the airflow, the spoiler has to be attached to the car bodywork, take for example NASCAR racers in the US, or if you live in europe, look at the spoiler at the top of some hatchbacks (the small black one on a VW mk3 golf GTI for example). Spoilers don't have to be big to have a good effect.

A wing is always seperate from the car bodywork as airflow needs to go over and under the device for it's effect. It is basicly an inverted aerofoil shaped surface that creates negative lift.

A spoiler can have (with extensive windtunnel testing, not as a bolt on modification) a positive effect on drag. A wing however will always create extra drag and it's bennefit is only in cornering or acceleration situations. A good wing will have a good lift-to-drag ratio and therefore create downforce with little penalty in drag. Most aftermarket, bolt-on wings (and, suprisingly most factory fitted wings) have quite horrible lift-to-drag ratios and are really not worth it if you are purely looking for cornering performance.

Back to the racing-modification.. any confirmation yet? I really missed that option since GT3, but now that they have a used-car shop in GT4 it should be included I guess.. hope so.. it makes the tuned cars much better when racing against the standard racing models and brings much more depth to the gameplay with over 600 cars and most of them stock-models.

So far no-one with GT4 has seen one, so I think we have to make do with the wings you can add.

But we've seen the Ford GT with modifications (a big wing and soem stickers and it's says Pholyphony Digital on the side). Maybe you can just win it.
