Has anyone been trying this?

You can get the download at http://www.racer.nl.

It's not the easiest thing to get set-up - I've only just got the accelerator and brakes set up on my wheel (steering is okay if a little quick) - and you'll need to be confident mucking around in .ini files (it's pretty easy).

It's all free, and there are some pretty good models. I see from one of the supporting sites that a few members from here have built car models for it. I'd be interested in their comments.

I haven't played that game in a long time! I remember taking part in the making of an NSX, with Acid X (gt2_gs) and MistaX.

I certainly came across a turbo MX-5/Miata he'd built - haven't loaded it yet, probably will do at some point.

I looked at it a while ago, and decided to give it a bit of a run this time (or more correctly, in the run up to GT4 and buying the Driving Force Pro wheel I can't afford a new game). I'm still getting to grips with the handling and steering but physics seem pretty sound. I downloaded an Enzo which is extremely powerful - you tend to arrive at corners about 50-60kmh quicker at the test course than you'd like.

What's the head-to-head experience like?

yea, i've been playing with racer for a while. i enjoy it alot, and it's come a long way! the latest betas with the new graphics engine looks damn sweet!

mazkid is pretty good with ini (that's what he does with the cars he's helped get into racer) so if u need any tips or help with that, u can ask him.

i must admit i don't play racer much anymore though. i just use it for testing out the car i'm building for it. but once i'm done making this car i'll be playing it plenty! i picked a very difficult car to learn to model with, but i'm progressing nicely and it's looking pretty damn good if i say so myself. :D

derr, i forgot to comment on multiplayer. it works well enough. last time i tried it with my friend we had a bit of warping but not much. it was very acceptable and we had fun. well, we tried. he sux and can't drive for his life! lol!

Awsome graphics, but dosen't Peter Dumbreck now drive a V8 Opel Astra?

that's stecki's benz. mm it looks good. though i think you will find these shot better reflect the current state of racers capabilities (graphics wise anyway).

I have the exact same car as that but it doesn't look that good...

Anyway, Racer's a great game. I quite like it.

Both cars (the NSX and RX-7) were both just conversions. Needless to say, MazKid didnt really do much for the RX-7 except get specs on the car and test it out i think.

I did all the major modeling work that needed to be done, due to the fact that all the textures and transparency needed to be re-done because when converted from the NFS format to Racer format, it lost transparency and the reflection on the body.

It was pretty much the same with both cars. Oh, and i also modelled the new wheels for the RX7, as the old ones were horribly flat. The new ones i created for it were very realistic looking.

So all i'm saying is, most likely without me both projects would have been dumped. ;)

Where do I get other cars than that racind extreme website?

I want to race a Z y0!

Or a rally WRX, or that Citroen, ok, theres alot of cars i wan to race in that badass game.

VM, check out the configure part in the start menu under racer.. you can select your controller.

I know about that. I looked at that. Most of it was wheels (i think), mouses, controllers, etc. Maybe I should look again.

yes you should :p

u can edit the different controller cfg ini's to work with your specific controller. it's not too complicated and with some common sense you should be able to figure it out. good luck! :)

Im running a P4 1.7ghz 512ddr and a geforce 3 64mb card...should this run well...if so tell me how to set it up so its not really slow.
