So I understand that blatant Blocking is frowned upon in a straight during a race.

What if.... Final lap of race.. and the last straight for the finish line??

I've encountered this scenario multiple times where i am racing amongst "good" drivers with good etiquette, where passing is clean and fair...

but... down to the straight of the final lap for the finish, I've encountered aggressive blocking before the finish line for the win...
I just want to know what the rule is on this so i feel better about doing it if i'm in that position. In the passed, i've just let cars around me without an attempt to block for the win..... what is the etiquette here?
Thanks!

Easy. Don't block.

You get 1 move, that's it. Anything else is intentional blocking, and abusers should be rejected.

More times than not, the preferred method is to let people pass you at the line, however there is an arguement that you can fight towards the line on the last lap.

Personally, I'll just break the slipstream and hope for the best.

Personally I try zig-zagging to give them the least amount of draft, because the amount in this game is pretty ridiculous when the lobby is set on strong.
However, when they get close behind me, I keep in a straight line and let them pass me.

That is not recommended in a clean race. Most rooms will kick because of zig-zagging. You can only block/draft break once.

Block on the final straight, this aint church. Your trying to win the race!

Thanks for the reply guys... the "one" aggressive move could be hard to interpret... I get what you guys are saying about breaking the slipstream, i've seen people doing plenty of that.... I'm talking about when i'm right at the the rear bumper ready to over take for a photo finish and the car in front makes an obvious swerve to block... It's been done to me by hosts i respect and run strict rooms...... little surprising (frustrating).. thought maybe there was a rule on this... maybe it's their "one" aggressive move...
I'll just continue to keep it straight and hope for the best.
Thanks Again, I was just curious what some opinions on this was.

There is nothing wrong with blocking to defend you position but many people just don't know how to do it properly. If the leader is blocking he should only be trying to take the other drivers race line, he should NOT be all over the track trying to defend his position.

Slamming into the other car or driving him off the track ISN'T blocking would be grounds for being kicked.

I do. That kind of blocking shows a complete lack of respect for others on the track, and I won't hesitate to kick.

The trick, from the defending cars point of view, is to make one "lane-change" to break the chasing cars momentum, without making contact.
Pesonally I just let the guy pass me without making much of an effort to keep him behind.
Good defensive driving is something I have given up completely when racing in random lobbies. People don't respect the rules of racing and cut across the grass to get on the inside or worse still, brake late and push you off your line.
It's a shame really because a good clean fight with proper tactical driving and clean moves is one of the most satisfying things you can do on a race track.

Thanks for the replys guys... so it sounds like there is an "acceptable" maneuver that is permitted in racing that prevents a car from passing at the finish line. What you guys are describing is exactly what i've encountered in the lobbies. It is one single move that prevented me from passing at the finish line. It also sounds like there are some different opinions on this but the general consensus seems clear. I think my question has been answered. I'm not sure If i will attempt this "lane-change" effort, just yet.... but anyway......
Again, Thank you all.

The key to blocking a draft is timing and car placement, it can be done within the rules (takes luck and track/closing speed knowledge).
If you're at Daytona, you can ride the wall, and then when exiting down the straight, glue your car to the apex. This rarely works, but if the guy's far enough behind, you can just make it.

If you're at Tokyo, this might be considered dirty to some people, but it's completely clean by the rules. Ride very close to the walls. The best wall is the inside wall.

but I do hate the blatant Zig-zaggers.

The best way to win races is to master the fake crash and dash.
When coming into the last corner, fake a crash. I don't mean slam into the wall - just slide wide and give him the inside lane. Most times, he'll pass, thinking he's won the race, then you straighten out your car, hop in the draft, and hopefully catch back up to him and pass him at the line. The trick is, make sure when you fake crash, you still get a good exit down the straight so you get a bit more momentum than he does.

In theory this sounds like a good idea, but as far as actual execution it dosent seem like it would work to well. Unless your racing with completly clueless people

Check and see if anything is broken? Why?

In real life it would be a bone or mutiple broken or well you know . In video games its going to be your eardrums, after im done yelling into the headset.
"You breaka my pace,i breaka your face"

Nah you did lose. The break/brake comment went straight over your head. Your Nazi grammar comment proved that.

Can't win em all.

If you just slow down and let them pass then yes, but if you do a good job of faking a real crash (Sometimes I will E-brake for added show) it can fool anyone. I have used it many times, I have only had one person not fall for it. You only can use it against the same person once though.

I dont know man, maybe i just have to see it in action

I never block going down the straight or zig-zag. I might inch over just a little bit in the direction of my opponent to throw them off, but that's just a neat little move, I don't try to squeeze them out, block, or wreck them.

I only block on a couple of conditions( have to take place at same time):

1. We are in a straight and its Not close to the finish line
2. My car has slow acceleration but high top speed whereas he has fast accel and top speed(but he accelerates slightly slower in higher gears than me)<--- this results in me blocking him for a few seconds so i gain enough speed that im usually satisfied with.

I then let him pass; with the correct timing, before we reach the end of the straight(however far we might be from the end) we reach the end of the straight at the same time.

3rd and final condition: I do this all the time in SP(hehe..); i only do this sometimes online when not racing in an actual race(whilst meeting the conditions from 1.) and 2.).

I never block at the end of a race; and none of you shouldnt either :)

Here is a video of it working in it's simplest form in an FMSC race at Indy.

The link should jump to the 48m45s minute mark.

I didn't do it that well and almost messed it up but still it was effective in that race.
