Racism in F1

Uhhh... did you happen to watch F1 at any time between 1999 and 2006?

Ferrari was built completely around Michael Schumacher... whenever Rubens was anywhere ahead of Schumi, he decelerated, braked or found a way so that Schumi would catch up to him. Similarly, whenever Schumi was ahead of Rubens, it was Rubens' job to block off anyone from attempting to take over...

It's common knowledge. Never, ever, ever was Rubens in any position to 1) win a world championship with Ferrari, or 2) win a race for Ferrari is Schumacher was less than 5 seconds behind him at any given point, unless of course, Schumi was already mathematically a world champion.
I'm more or less referring to 2007 with Raikkonen and Massa. Both drivers seemed to be in the hunt for the better part of the championship, and once Massa bowed out, Raikkonen got a little more attention.

At least, that's how it looked to me.

Then why revive the thread a week after it had been left well alone, and almost a month after the event in question?

because he appreciates the awesomeness of a true master... :D

But, the point stands that you do not act like a spoilt brat when you are being beaten fair and square by your rookie team mate (and even Alonso admitted he was equally treated at McLaren when the season was over).

As if he had a choice

The picture used in this article pretty much sums it all up.

Terrible, wonder what Alonso has to say about all this.

you have never been to a nascar race have you?

There is a difference, though.

I've got this great book called Rally Cars by photographer Reinhard Klein. In the 1990s section, there's a picture of one of the Lancia Deltas on the Rallye San Remo blasting past a group of Italian fans who are going - there's no other word for it - bonkers. But turn the page over, and it's the same group of fans who are gesturing at one of the early Celicas racing by. They're not targeting the car because it's Japanese, and they're not targeting the river because he's Spanish (I belive it's Carlos Sainz). Looking at the two pictures back-to-back, they're having a go because the car isn't Italian. The Celica is going too fast to truly see who it is (you can tell by looking at the picture, but I seriously doubt you'd know if you saw it go by), so the Italian fans are just going nuts over their own boys.

The difference is that the abuse at Catalunya was very specific. It was targeted at Lewis Hamilton - thre weren't any reports that anything was aimed at Heikki Kovalainen (though Pedro de la Rosa may have had testing duties on the day in question) - and it was intended to be offensive. This wasn't some group of fans who didn't like McLaren and were simply booing them, but a systematic, deliberate and unprovoked attack on a particular driver for a particular cause. A major part of my university work last year was on Equal Employment Opportunity and while that makes me no expert and is in a completely different context, the events at that test session are a textbook fit of the model of discrimination based on racial background.

Well said man, Alonso got the same treatment in Italy (Imola?) on his victory lap. As the first black in F1 it's up to Hamilton & Ecclestone to deal with it along with GP hosts. Not the FIA, they (MM) will go to far. Bernie didn't seem too concerned and neither am I.
