it is really too hard to rally with the dfp, it shakes my table like mad and just hard to turn quickly. i actually don't enjoy playing rally at all... anyone else feel the same?

I feel the exact same way. The DFP makes every other aspect of the game more fun, but it ruins the rallying. The wheel needs to be 200*, imho. I haven't messed with changing it. At 900* you feel like you'll destroy the wheel by sawing it lock to lock.

Its fine for me in Prologue, using the 900 degrees takes a bit of practice on Grand Canyon. I still managed a gold in the time trial though.

I was having a hell of a time with the wheel doing the Coffee Cup S License test. I ended up unplugging the force feedback and just whipping it back and forth with my index finger. :D

Well for me, i really like it. It took about 3hours of stright rally races to get used to it. But its fun considering i'm a drifter and i love to lose that traction. :D

Have any of you found a way to actually calibrate the wheel?

I'm almost considering buying the Momo Force just to get rid of this 700 degrees of useless motion.

That'd be money well wasted. The Momo is not supported in GT4.

Try to be smoother driving the rally stages with the DFP. You can't just mash the accelerator everywhere. Drive the car on the throttle.

I disagree, I think it is great for rallying give a good work out with full force on and in 900 mode. But I do think that Ice is easier than Gravel as far as rallying goes, it just takes a little practice.

I was having a real hard time rallying in GT4. No matter dirt, gravel, snow, or ice. It was all bad, so I started watching the license videos. I think the physics were changed to be more realistic. One must accelerate towards the turn, brake early, and use a very...disciplined application of the throttle during and immediately after the turn. It looks and feels slow, but is quite effective. I hope this post helps.

Hmm I might try that. It really does feel like I am abusing my wheel with it plugged in.

I just ended up using my DS2 for rally stages.

I THINK you can turn it to 180 degrees mode for GT4 but I'm not too sure. I've never tried it myself though. Press SELECT + R3 + RIGHT PADDLE and see if the right LED light turns off and if the wheel is locked at 180 degrees.

If it doesn't work ... you can always get the older Logitech Driving Force (non-pro).

I played rally on that Subaru simulator machine a few days ago. It's amazing 👍

^^that's me too. I tried 1 ice license test with my DFP for 2 hours, finally got sick of it and used my DS2 - golded in 3 tries, and that was my first time using the DS2 on GT4. Putting the wheel in 200 degree mode helped, but it still wasn't enough for me.

Wow. Exactly what my co-worker said this morning. He got a brand new PS/2, the game, and DFP. Wheel is fine elsewhere, but he is really struggling with the rally events.

It's not as bad as you all are making it to be. It's just different. You hardly have to go more than 120 degrees or so anyway, it's not like your opposite locking the full 2 1/2 turns every corner. I've golded all 8 of the rally licenses so far in B, A, IB, and IA. Haven't tried the S licence rallys yet. The hardest one to learn is the winter rallys, that IA one took about an hour to gold...with no wall contact at all I might add. Like someone said above, use the throttle and faint motion to get the car in a drift and countersteer a little bit. It just takes practice.

Overall it's way better, GT3's rally was way too easy, and everyone b!tched about it. Now it actually takes some skill and guess what...everyone's b!tching about it yet again.:)

Yes, that works. I tried it last night.

As for force feedback, you can press select + r3 + left paddle to switch it to 60% of its power instead of the 100% default. This time, the left led will blink to let you know you've done right.

try taking a look at the options menu for once. I Turned power steering assist off and force feedback level to mild, It feels alot less violent and more realistic. I STRONGLY suggest everyone does this!

Hmm, I was wondering how to do this. I was starting to feel that the wheel is amazingly hard to get from lock to lock.

i dont know about gt4 but in gt4p dfp is quite good in rallying you guys just need to practice..i got gold on 4th try in gt4p (grand canyon) just practice..and if you think your table is gona break i think you need better table..and if its still too hard just swicth to 200 degree..

you won't destroy your wheel, i have 0 problems with the DFP on rally, but i don't like rally in GT series at all because it's closed circuits and you can't get off the track on corners to gain traction like rally drivers would in real life (or in RBR...) 200 degrees for rally is stupid by the way, that's what 900 degrees is all about (actual rally cars are about 740, but i'm betting they tuned the wheel for that, just like they used about 300 for race cars.)

Some body needs a work out :sly:

Anyway, for those of you who are new to the DFP and GT4 physic, please I repeat, Don't hate just learn to enjoy it. Unlike many of you I bought the Japanese version of the game. I was once in the same boat as y'all. It got to the point of frustration. But only through time and practice that I manage to overcome it. Driving on the Nurb was very frustrating, because one wrong move and your ass is gonna spin out. After completing 27% of the game; spinning out was not a problem to control. Well after the intense hours of practice I manage to control it. Before I couldn't drift like ****, but now I can say I'm actually having fun drifting through corners with the DFP.

So,

Don't cry you big baby, just give it a little more practice.

I'd have to agree with everyone who says "practice"...

Rallying in GT4 w. 900 degrees ON is quite a bit different from GT3. You can't just go blasting through each turn full throttle... Slow in, somewhat fast our seems to be the general idea..

But I've b!tched and moaned about it myself (to myself) and after finishing "Special Conditions" hall (Most done in a Mitsubishi Galant VR4 ;) ) I think I've got some of it..

it's supposed to be hard!
ever seen the WRC? just be glad GT4 and the DFP don't simulate what happens when you lose power steering :p
Or find out you just ran out of road doing 160km/h :irked:

I understand what people are saying, and I do agree. The DFP does make it so much harder to drive, and you end up fighting against the wheel just to try and stay in a straight line. Some might say that this is part of a driving simulator, but I can see how it would annoy some people. After all, GT4 is only game, and is meant to be fun.

To complete the first rally test in Prologue I ended up using the game pad and left the wheel to one side.

Cheers, Jamie
