Boog dat. Rap is not as bad as people think. You can't just be so thick headed towards it. I was for months whenever my friends wanted to listen to rap I religiously said no and stuck to my rock music that I still love. I listen to rap and it is not as bad as you people think. Some rap is really bad, I agree but others are good. Three 6 Mafia, Baby D, Playa Fly, Project Pat, Lil Wyte and a bunch of other rappers are really good.

Also, give Jurassic 5 a try. Fun-keh beats and a real lack of posturing. 👍

And remember this: Rap and real R&B are not the same thing - no matter what the record companies try to sell you.

Err sorry.

A good rap tune I heard recently (although it's probably old) is by Dead prez, it's just called hip hop. Go listen to it.

If You're gonna "bust a cap" on popular music you really need to know what a "I, IV, V progression is".
Can any of my other musician friends help him out (the door).

Also, as your first post alludes to Rap and R & B being the "gateway" to drug use, indiscriminate sex, etc. I have to say you really don't read much do you?

Some of My favorite bands, such as Def Leppard, AC/DC, Aerosmith, and so on in that genre have had MANY heavily publicized problems with drugs and alcohol.
It's a "ROCK STAR" lifestyle problem. It's is not exclusive to Rap, or, R & B, or ANY other genre. It is a universal problem with taking a bunch of poor kids from the trailer park, and the ghetto, and nearly instantaneously giving them access to drugs, alcohol, and willing groupies in conjunction with instant fame and riches.
I'm out of virtual nickels, but someone needs to buy a clue.:banghead:

nice one Gil rap music is the best I ain't gonna burn rock cause it other peoples opinion simple as. Besides I hang around a lot of rockers anyway trying to get me to go to there rock clubs.

Oh wow, one song you decided to single out. There are so many better songs than "Break the Law" so why dont you download some of them.

I came to like rap just like Rob, and just like Rob I cannot stand Country/Western or any of that crap. I'll listen to anything but Country/Western or anything sung in a different language.

I used to think that rap was all about nice cars, ho's, and shooting people. I gave up trying to fight it because I realize that I'm never gonna change peoples oppinions so now I just listen to my music and could care less about what other people are listening to because IT DOESN"T REALLY MATTER

I've heard tons of 3 six mafia stuff, I have a mate who loves them to bits. Thats probably the only song I can remember of theirs, don't realy like them because they sound so slow.

Oh and Asher, Ben is like you he just want's to listen to what he thinks is cool (although you realy can't define cool).

I have 2 categorys.
1) Music I do like.
2) Music I don't

Although the majority of the music that falls in category 1 is metal, I do have J-Pop, rap and even classical stuff that I like.

I don't care about the category of music, I just listen to what I like.

I like their stuff no matter how slow it is, its still all good stuff. Lil Wyte is good too. The newest member of the 3 6 Mafia and Hypnotize Minds.

50 cent.

I must admit, I took the plunge and purchased the new 50 cent CD as the first rap CD I ever bought. Granted, I'll never buy another one, but at least he's semi-talented, though.

Also - I've been watching Battle of the Sexes on MTV now. Perhaps I'm beginning to live the life of a normal teenager. Eek.

I hate commercial rap and r&b. Basically the stuff you are all talking about. like others said though I can find that I like some stuff from that category.

ludacris, old dirty bastard, 3 six mafia, redman. sometimes I will listen to this stuff for a luagh, but I dont consider it real music.

Some stuff similar to rap that I really like are jurassic 5, the roots, and stuff like that. I only have some of their older stuff and havent picked up their new ones yet. Im not too into music.

Completely agreed. Jurassic 5 is the best new rap. Other than that its Run DMC and Beastie Boys all the way!

Didnt see it mentioned before, but yea, j5 is the ****. The last album Ive actually heard of theirs was quality control. I know they have a new one out now. Is it any good? Well, im sure it is, how good?

If you like j5 go get the roots come alive. Awesome cd.

Ahhh, good ol', safe, Classical Music.... Didn't do anything to people except make the composers mentally unstable or deaf....

I know this thread is old, but I've been meaning to get this off of my chest...

The majority of rap music isn't about excesses of drug dealing, that is just what major radio and TV channels decide to play because it's what sells. Think about it. There's maybe 20-40 major rap artists who are popular enough to go platinum, let alone multi-platinum. Only an idiot would judge an entire genre of music by 30 popular artists out of thousands upon thousands. It's simply not logical. Anyone who believes rap is only about money, hoes, and clothes is a sheep and MTV is their shepherd. These people should be smart and actually try to educate themselves on what Hip-Hop is all about and not let MTV try and tell you what Hip-Hop is.

I've also noticed how some rock fans are almost militantly anti-rap. Every time I register and begin posting at a non-Hip-Hop message board, I look in the music section and there is always, without exception, a "Rap is Crap" thread somewhere in the latest five pages. I've never seen a "Rock Music Sucks!" thread in my entire time spent on the internet and if there are any, there aren't nearly as much as there are anti-rap threads, I guarantee you. I've also noticed a similar mentality in my interactions with rock fans in person. I think that these uneducated persons should get a life and stop ridiculing the opinions of others. It makes you seem like an obnoxious moron.

If anyone is interested in expanding their horizons, you can AIM me whenever you like and I can suggest some songs that are not fitting of the general stereotype of rap music.

No.

same as Viper Zero. when someone asks what i like, i tell them. then if they say they like something else i just say "oh, thats cool. i just don't really like it, but thats my opinion." i don't go posting it on a forum trying to get attention.

and with what he is saying, its true. so tell me one time in the song 21 Questions by 50 cent feat. nate dogg, where it says ****. thats highly played on MTV, and you are still saying all rappers use **** in every song. and with ludacris, one of my favorites, he says ****, but its just him. he doesn't mean it in a bad way, he is just saying it because thats what suits him. now with other songs not on MTV, like on my Windows Media Playlist, they don't do what you say they do.

edit>> you are here registered with a gran turismo forum. highly associated with cars, imagine that!! go on kazaa or whatever and download act a fool from ludacris. its a great song, its in 2 fast 2 furious, and its great the way he rhymes all the things he says about cars. thats basically why I personally like rap. the way they make everything rhyme, its really hard to put into words exactly why i like it, but i do.

On another level, I take it quite personally...But it's your opinion if you like it or not.

I liked rap all the way up until the 6th grade- until I figured out what it was I was listening to. Now I pretty much hate it. My 12 year old cousin listens to it, but I won't let him listen to it around me unless I've heard the song (which is rare) and/or know the message in it.

I may sound like a parent, sorry, but I hate the message that most rap music brings. Eminem, for example, has phenomenal talent when it comes to rhymes and lyrics- but I wish he would seriously clean up his act. I think it is just down right disgusting about some of the things he will rap about. Over all, I hate rap music.

Now some will say "Why? It's cool!" I'll tell you why. I find it completely stupid to listen to something that revolves around murder, sex, drugs, crime. The very esence of why America is so crime-stricken.

I am a victim of molestation. I was molested when I was 12 years old. So before these morons go on and rap about rape and molestation, and doing it to someone harmless, they should see what it's like first. Then we'll see where the cash lies there.

Bottom Line: Not worth my time and money.

Oh yeah, I forgot. They need to go back to school and re-take some English courses. I feel stupid enough listening to rap alone. Plus I don't want to hear "F you and F this!" in every other sentence. It's just ANNOYING!

yea, i hate eminem(kinda ironic i like 50 cent the best:)) just because of the stuff he sings about. i like rappers like ludacris, and people who don't go into graphic detail of how they want to kill his mother. i see what you are saying about some of them. i like rappers who like to sing about having a good time.

Blazing20

Have you actually heard "most rap music"? Nope. Not even 1/100,000th of it.

If you believe Rap revolves around murder, sex, drugs, crime, and such things, you have no right to speak on the matter because it reflects your ignorance. It's my opinion that a person shouldn't be allowed to speak on things they know nothing about. As I said, you and people like you need to listen to more Hip-Hop than what MTV shoves down your throat and become educated on Hip-Hop or never speak about it again.

I'm actually offended that you seem to think that rappers go out every night raping, killing, and molesting people like they were Alex and his Droogies from A Clockwork Orange. I don't think you can truthfully say you've heard a rap song about molesting preteens because I can't, and I've heard more rap music than you could possibly fathom. Also, you seem to be suggesting that rap music is part of why America has extremely high crime rates in comparison with the rest of the world, which is plain stupid.

I swear, it's the late 70's all over again. Rap has replaced Metal as the new "devil's music."

I suppose the question should be posed asking if "popular" rap was bad.
Music is about entertaining the listeners. I am not a big rap fan. But, Nas has a rap out that puts out a very positive message to young children.
"I know I can
Be what I wanna be.
If I work hard at it,
I'll be where I wanna be."

It also talks about the pitfalls of young girls dressing too sexy. It talks about avoiding drugs, and in general working hard to achieve your dreams.
Maybe I'm missing the point. What's wrong with that message??
Every Genre of music has "interesting" songs.
Listen Carefully to Pink Floyd's the Wall. The only place you will ever hear anybody say "We don't need no education".
"Hotel California" is about a booze and drug soaked, whorehouse orgy.
"Strange Fruit" sung by Billie Holiday, waay back in the '40s and '50s was protesting the lynchings that were happening.
And that doesn't even begin to scratch the surface with some of the "deviant" songs and videos by Madonna.
I guess it's in vogue to pick on whoever's making money.
