I'm seeing so many of these awesome vehicles and think they deserve their own thread, heck I'm sure there are many people on this site who've never heard of a rat rod before let alone seen what one looks like. They come in several types and styles, from hot rods to passenger cars to trucks, matt black to rust, hidden engines to wild exposed engines, chopped, channeled, sectioned, the list is endless!

(These two are owned by a good friend of mine. He even customized his girlfriend's VW Bug into a sort of rat rod (below))

Cool thread, I've always had a thing for rat rods.

How does that work? Upside-down cylinder heads? And what kind of engine is that? Never seen one with the distributor on the front of the engine like that. Reminds me of a GM LT1...

To be honest, no idea. It says Chevrolet on the valve covers, but other then that it's just as much of a mystery to me. I should've asked the guy when I snapped the picture.

Rat rods are built by people that don't live the "lifestyle", just build them for atention, traditionals are built by people that live and breath hot rodding.

If you don't like em, piss off.

How do you know they just build them for attention, and so what if they don't live by a certain "lifestyle." I would think that they'd build them because they want to build them, not just for attention.

Yeah, who the hell goes out and not only spends money on, but puts very hard work into a car just to get attention? And what is this "lifestyle" anyway?

Oh, I definitely roll up in my '88 Hachi Roku with a bike rack on the back to get attention... uh huh... watch out now biatches.

They stopped making the AE86 in '87. Moved to the AE9x Platforms, save for the Chevrolet Nova, which continued on the AE82 chassis for one more year.

;3

Anyway, I approve somewhat. Some of these cars are a bit ridiculous (I'm kind of a Pro Touring guy myself...KIND of...) but they're not that bad

those that make rat rods for those reasons are set apart, usually with glossy rust painted on lol
theres imitators in any scene and its a bit general to say everyone who just happens to be rolling patina and some original ideas isnt involved and any guy can build a rod the way he wants it to look. the blokes with their head in the sand making a carbon copy of another satin whitewalled '32 he saw in rod&custom would have more questionable intent

Thank you for reminding me. :indiff: Let me have my moment! :grumpy:
