^ The song wouldn't play in my region due to copyrigth laws or some BS like that. Luckily i already know the song and have an MP3 in Itunes.

7/10 while not my favorite zeppelin song, i do enjoy this classic. the guitar is what makes it for me. I'm a sucker for zeppelin guitars.

now, for you all.

little slow at first, but one of my favorites.

7/10. Haven't listened to much VNV recently, but that song is powerful and the fact that it's kinda slow isn't really an issue for me. It's not a favourite of mine when it comes to VNV's back catalog, but I'd happily give it a listen.

This starts off slow, but it picks up the pace soon enough:

7/10
Have it on cassette tape and it's awesome.

This is the only YT vid that I can get of the full song.
American Hi-Fi My Only Enemy

4/10? I donno. It wasn't that bad, but I didn't really like it. Could have been a lot worse.

3/10 Predictable, and the added cheering sounds weren't exactly screaming humility. Seemed to really lack creativity. Nothing really stood out to me, and vocals were ultimately emotionless.

Usually even when a song isn't my taste, I try and rate it more from an open perspective, think about things like musicianship, musical complexity, etc. I do that with things that are my taste, but I also focus on opinion when it is my taste. It's just more fair for me to rate it openly rather than to go, it's not my taste and rule it out and call it crap. A perfect example of this can be found here.

6/10, I'm not a big fan of this music style, reminds me of 80s hair metal. It's the vocals that kill it for me personally. That being said all the band members are incredibly talented and the music mix is great. You can hear all the instruments with out having to try, and nothing gets lost.

He understands that the musicians are good at what they do, and addressed its positive points, and rated it respectively even though he "wasn't a big fan of this music style." He looked for the positives in production and musical ability. 👍 to him by the way.

And lastly, please don't take what I'm saying harshly, I'm just stating how I rate things generally, and I can see how it could be seen as "bashing at your opinion because it differs from my own," but that is definitely not how I see it, or intend it.

I've been resisting choosing long songs, because I know people don't tend to be able to appreciate a good structure that takes a long time to complete. Which is okay, it's understandable especially because the song selected may not even be your cup of tea, but I couldn't resist choosing a long one this time.

PS: This Dying Soul - Dream Theater for me earns a 9/10. My only problem that stops me voting 10/10 is that the spoken part by LaBrie sounded like he was trying to go all Dave Mustaine (he gets pretty close at the end), but that raspy aggressiveness isn't what LaBrie is best at. However, I still love the song, the entire 12 step suite (that's right, Otakukid... This isn't even the full song. The entire thing lasts I think it's 56 minutes...)

Big 👍 to Judas Priest, not one of my favourite songs from the band but it's definitely a very interesting one to listen to. 7/10

One for all the hardcore fans here.

Thom Yorke stuff

7.5/10 I don't think that this is his best work. I'm usually a big fan of Thom Yorke, and Radiohead, but this seemed more like background music to me. While it had all of the usual musicianship of Radiohead, the interesting guitar part, and Yorke's usual (if odd) voice, it was missing that certain something. Good driving music.

I give it about 8/10. It's a fun song and I love rock from that time. His singing style is a little out of my tastes but that's just me

This one is one of my all-time favorites. Rage Against the Machine covering Bruce Springsteen's Ghost of Tom Joad. It's a completely different sound compared to the original but I love it.

Great cover, 7.5/10. Personally I think Renegades of Funk and How I Could Just Kill a Man are the better songs on that album.

6/10, I couldn't really get into it because the recording was rather quiet.

Flashback to 1997, two years before Muse released their first album...

Don't worry. I'm not dissing Muse! Just couldn't resist the joke, and I've been asked to study this song for the Music course I've been doing recently. (If your good at something you might as well have a qualification to prove it)

7/10 Not big on that drum beat is all.

Something much different for you guys to try. There is a "full length" version, but this sums it up pretty well.

5/10
Buzzcocks are decent.

Debated between Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Iron Maiden anf this next one. My PS3 can't post vids but the song is

Stars by Hear n Aid

Let me just make a proper link for you... :) Damn, now I can't stop listening. I'm not allowed to vote on this because I'm already familiar with the song (I think that should be a rule, if it's a song that you like and that you already know, you shouldn't vote (otherwise people just vote 10/10 without actually considering it properly, just voting because they know it). I would of course vote that song 10/10 (it has Geoff Tate and Rob Halford in it, of course it's going to be good)... But this vote doesn't count. ;)

This is the best quality one I can find (the other ones have this horrible cracking at the start which shouldn't be there).

I have always loved the assemblage of artist works. This is one of the better ones. 9/10

7/10

It most certainly sounded full, and thick. It didn't have anything overly special to it, other than some sentimental value for you. The vocal melodies were quite good, and the song was consistent the most annoying thing about it was its video, however I didn't consider it to its final rating, and if I included that among the final rating, the rating would half.

Now songs that changed lives? This one could be considered one of those for me, it didn't make me come to some realization of something, or help me become a better person, it made me a lifetime fan, and this was the first song I ever considered a favourite (I still remember first hearing it).

Yes, in that still above Bruce's teeth look hilarious, and at that point... His hair looked ridiculous. I can see why he cut it off.

6/10-It's pretty good for the genre, but that sort of music isn't really to my taste. The rating comes down to personal preference, really.

Now, this song is indeed 25 minutes long, so if you don't listen to the whole thing that's alright. However, if you have the time, I recommend it.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond- Pink Floyd
6.5/10 I quite like Pink Floyd but this song is just so long. I quite like long songs but when I think of a long song I usually mean 10 minutes! I like having them in the background but this one of those that needs your full concentration to enjoy properly, not as background music. However, I do really enjoy it after 4 minutes but it just drags on a bit too much for me to rate higher. I really like there early stuff with Syd Barret and Dark Side of the Moon is one of my favourite albums.
Great thread idea by the way! :)

I don't know how to get it into a box that you can view here like others are doing? Sorry :/

6.5/10, quite unlike any other stuff of the Kinks I've heard. I am a fan but this isn't one of my favourites of theirs.

Got to love Jim Morrison.
