Has anyone heard of that new rimfire round? .17 Winchester Super Magnum.
50% thicker brass than the .17HMR, 20 grains @ 3000 fp/s, 25 @ 2600, operates at 33k PSI instead of the 26k PSI of the 17HMR!
Do you know the H&K Mp7 that fires the 4.6x30mm round? This new rimfire is more powerful!

If its not going to be too pricey this could be a great round! I'd totally want one in a mini-sniper rifle! :dopey:

Left to right: .22lr, .22 Winchester Magnum, .17HMR and the new .17 magnum:

Interesting, but I wonder if it's going to be cost effective.

Hey Michael, is the ammunition availability as bad over there as it is here in the States? I'm sure you got pretty good idea of how bad we have it by participating in this thread. :p

Nope, ammo is still plentiful here, my dealer has hundreds of .308, .223, 9mm and .45ACP boxes etc. in the shelves. Maybe you forgot that we have ammo manufacturers in good ole' Europe that don't export all their stuff to the US. Fiocchi, Rottweil, Sellier & Bellot, Eley, all the Russian stuff to name a few.

Though I haven't bought ammo in a while because I'm reloading all my stuff now, all regular components are all available right now.

Maybe thats the perfect time to start reloading? Its SO much fun, a hobby within a hobby! :)

Me too. I've heard that Savage is going to make a rifle chambered in .17mag this year. I'm a big-caliber guy but I have to admit I like the idea of having a fast little .17.

You're so lucky. I still get hassled every day when I go buy the three boxes I'm allowed to buy per day. Not to mention that I can only buy ammo for my 243 and 20 gauge because pistol ammo gets sold the second it hits the shelf.

You're so lucky.
Ho ho, not so fast with the compliments! Ammo availability might be better in the EU right now but we still have to pay more. Ammo is expensive around here, thats why I started reloading.
Cuts costs by 50%-70% and I make ammo tailored to my individual rifles.

Haha. I wouldn't doubt it man. How much money did it cost for you to get everything you needed to reload?

Might have to try those rounds out. I love my .17 HMR. I prefer that for plinking woodchucks over my .22. Even though one of them is an 11 round tube fed semi-auto.

Off the top of my head:

(1 € = 1.2 USD)

Dies per caliber: ~ € 45-55
Lee 50th anniversary reloading press kit: € 150
2x 1 Kg powder Lovex S070: € 35
Brass: € 0 because I reload the brass I already have
Primers federal large rifle magnum 1000 pcs: € 50
Projectiles (expensive stuff, theres is much cheaper bullets out there) 220 grain .308 SMK HPBT: € 65 / 100

Yeah, thats it. About 390 bucks.

Ok, 390. The most expensive round I reload costs approx € 2.5 / round at the store, and thats a good deal. 390 is 156 rounds of said caliber, and the 390 includes the press, not just the powder, primers and projectiles.

Its crazy.

Very cool. 👍 I was just wondering, because it is as bad as Maiden described here in the States. If you aren't there when incoming stock hit the shelves, you won't see it. There doesn't seem to be any manufacturing issue, so I think it's only matter of time people who are hoarding, or scalpers won't be able to keep it up anymore.

I am very glad you enjoy it. It's not for me though, trust me.
Has anyone experimented with / had personal experience with a slide fire on an AR ?

Contemplating this one.
It's a bump-fire stock, right? It may be legal, but I don't want to be harassed by the authorities with that. :nervous:

And it should never be. But you have heard about that family who got visited by the authorities in New Jersey, because of one photo with a semi-automatic rifle. jk :p

From what I've heard it's a fun toy and middle finger to the law. I don't see a use for it beyond hunting a bunch of tin cans, especially at that price. $350 can buy a lot of gun...

Good news today.

WASHINGTON (AP) - All but ending chances for an assault weapons ban, Democratic leaders said Tuesday the firearms legislation the Senate will debate next month won't include the provision that gun-control advocates pressed for after an assault-type weapon was used in the Newtown school shootings in December.

Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he wanted to bring a gun bill to the full Senate that would have enough support to overcome any GOP attempts to prevent debate from even starting. He expressed concern that including the assault weapons provision might effectively block passage of any bill at all.

Instead, the sponsor of the provision, Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, said she will offer her ban on the military-style firearms as an amendment. But Feinstein is all but certain to need 60 votes from the 100-member Senate to prevail, and she faces solid Republican opposition as well as likely defections from some Democrats.

That's been the topic over in the "Guns" thread, really awesome news. 👍

We seem to be safe........ for now.

That's really not bad as far as that price goes. I really wish I could get into it and find supplies readily. I am probably going to go get a Ruger 10/22 tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to find ammo for it though. *scared*

Well guys, just went and picked up a Ruger 10/22. I got it for a pretty decent price of $260 after tax and everything. I am hoping to get two more mags and make a tri-mag with it but am unsure of a website selling the tri-mag part. I am going to shoot it later today, so I'll let y'all know how it goes!

I had to look up this tri-mag, but that's pretty cool. I hope you have fun, and let me know if you want to trade her in for a used 597, I'll throw in the banana clips. :p

It's like that Batman search light thing. When you need the Z-Man, say the word.

So, pistolero friends: M&P Pro vs. G34/35? Best 5 inch barrel sport/comp striker gun?

Shot the G35 a few times, loved it for what it is. The 40 is a nice all-around round, Glock is an ultra-reliable no **** gun. I'm no pistolero but what I *really* like is the low bore axis, results in less muzzle flip which allows me to make faster follow-up shots. The recoil goes straight into my hand.
If I wanted to buy a pistol it would be the G35 - in a heartbeat.

Michael, are you familiar with the Steyr pistols at all?

Never seen one before. Wonder how it'd compare. And, I'm kind of being silly asking questions involving glock pistols since my aunt would just go for the glock option anyway. Too many mags and stuff to not stick with glock.

Whichever one fits your hand better. I actually noticed that there felt like there was less recoil when I shot an M&P9 next to a Glock 17, but that's possibly because the gun fits me so much better.

You really can't go wrong with either. If you get a Glock you can watch this commercial to feel like a badass.

Just spent 3 hours trying to get the scope reticle completely level, and I'm still not satisfied. Its always tilted slightly to the right or left, and what makes things even worse is that when I *slightly* (hardly noticeable) tilt my head to one side the reticle tilts to the other side. Super confusing.

Adjusting scopes is always super frustrating.

After adjusting a scope I always appreciate the simple yet effective iron sights of a surplus rifle like an Enfields etc.

I was afraid of running into that while setting up the Redfield for my AR. Thankfully, I didn't notice any slant after my first try leveling the thing. :) I've only shot it at 50 yards though, I'll let you know what issue come up next. :p
