I HAVE completed all the special events and don't have the red bull challenge. So i suggest this isn't true.

Alex 1369 are you using a wheel or the dualshock?
I've been trying for hours with dualshock and I feel like I don't have enough control with it, its almost impossible to do this challenge

to clear this up, the only thing you need to get the challenges is to be lvl 30, I haven't done all the special stuff and I still got it.

Good, good, I could probably make bronze so I can then get the x1 challenge, if getting a bronze in the x1 challenge is enough to get the car then even if it takes me a day of straight practising then I will get it.

let me underline what alex said... it's EXTREMELY diffuclt to complete the challenge. I'm just having some goes on it now. HUGE props to alex for pulling it off. It is close to impossible, and by FAR the most demanding and difficult challenge I've ever experienced in ANY gran turismo. I feel I did fairly good, with clean laps, and still I was like 13 seconds BEHIND bronze.

Me, I'm going to let gt5 rest now... Never even imagined how hard it would be, and I'm just being realistic... I won't complete that challenge on nurburgring, not in my skill level, yet.
So I'll hang around and wait for something to happen to the game save things, so that maybe in like 2-3 months time, I could download a save and enjoy the game again
As of now, not going to happen that I'm doing another life-tapping endurance race for close to no rewards.

I'm not kidding when I say this... I've driven the F1 car in the game, and it's awesome, but the x1 is more than the f1 on steriods... it's more like an ACTUAL war missile with wheels and downforce. During the challenge, the SLIGHTEST misjudgement on acceleraction, steering lock, or braking is make or break to get bronze.
But in conclusion, from the level 30 challenge testing, the difference between the x1 and f1 is like Michael Jordan in his prime, vs a very good college player. Both are good, but MJ is just on a different planet.

I've tried the challenge for 2 hours now, and I consider myself a fairly good GT player, but clearly not good enough for the challenge
