Hmm, funny. By my recollection, the R34 was not ugly, in fact, it was, and still is, one of the most beautiful cars in the world. That, however; is mediocre, and, besides the taillights, looks nothing like a Skyline. Shame on you Nissan. 👎

The R34's not beautiful, but it certainly isn't ugly. I see the new GT-R the same way, not being beautiful isn't a bad thing, it just in my view means the cars more agressive.

Either way, official pictures of the new GT-R is news, about a car.

So I hear they are basically pulling the same thing Mazda did, saying it isn't officially a Skyline, but trying not to wink as they do so.

I dont think the R34 or the new GTR are ugly at all, the new GTR I had hoped for it to be alittle better but I'll reserve serious judgement for when I see it in person.

On a serious note, it has that ugly-serious look to it. Much in the same way as the R32-R34, the E30 M3, old M6, and all of the new Cadillac V cars have that look. I like it.

And this is where me and you can agree, a cars greatness and value depends largly on where it's sold and for how much. In the UK the R34 GT-R's were sold at 55 grand, FIFTY FIVE GRAND, everyone said, not a chance mate I'll import one from Japan .

I've already posted this in the GTR Proto thread in the Nissan Performance Zone forum, but it seems only a certain group of people track that thread, so I'll post it here as well.

Did anyone else notice that the 2001 GTR concept had a smooth, production-like greenhouse with a boxy, unrefined, concept-like body, and 2005 GTR concept has a boxy, unrefined, concept-like greenhouse with a smooth, refined, almost-production-like body?

I combined the two concepts and it looks much better, IMO.

Well that is true with the old RB26, but we don't really know how far this new engine can be pushed. Wait it's just the VQ35 this time right? How much horsepower do people get out of those engines?

Oookaaayy. So just because this car does not officially carry the Skyline name, we're supposed to just forget about the past Skyline GT-Rs? As if this is a completely new car with no connection whatsoever to our beloved GT-Rs? Ya, that's gonna happen. The new Miata's official name is MX-5, not MX-5 Miata as it has been in the past. But you know what, people still call it the Miata. Hell, even Mazda executives themselves call it the Miata from time to time, and have publicly stated they don't mind if people call it the Miata. And it's all because they don't want to deny the cars heritage, and I highly doubt Nissan wants to deny the heritage of it's fastest, most famous and most historic model. It'd be like Chevy calling the C6 Z06 simply Z06, with no Corvette in the official title, and expecting us to believe there's no connection between it and the Corvette. No offense, but your aguement is simply idiotic.

P.S. There are Skylines out there that could wup up on the McLaren F1 in acceleration from 0-any given speed or distance, could beat it around a racetrack and reach a higher top speed. All the while using street tires and costing about a tenth of your precious McLaren. That's why, for me, the Skyline is the greatest performance car the world has ever seen. Nothing can touch it.

Regarding the Skyline and GT-R badges, Nissan has officially split them into two seperate brands, the Skyline badge will live on with cars such as the V35 successor, the GT-R badged cars will not be beefed up V35 successors, they are now completely seperate models. It's like when Toyota seperated the Supra and Celica badges into two seperate models.
