BlazinXtreme...the new Z06 is one of the best buys on the American market...
I never said that people are supposed to forget about the Skyline. Hell, I didn't say a d*mn thing about killing off Skylines.fangorn_forestOookaaayy. So just because this car does not officially carry the Skyline name, we're supposed to just forget about the past Skyline GT-Rs?
P.S. There are Skylines out there that could wup up on the McLaren F1 in acceleration from 0-any given speed or distance, could beat it around a racetrack and reach a higher top speed. All the while using street tires and costing about a tenth of your precious McLaren. That's why, for me, the Skyline is the greatest performance car the world has ever seen. Nothing can touch it.![]()
McLaren F1GTRNow when I hear of the GT-R, I won't have to hear Skyline fanboys with it.
fangorn_forestOookaaayy. So just because this car does not officially carry the Skyline name, we're supposed to just forget about the past Skyline GT-Rs? As if this is a completely new car with no connection whatsoever to our beloved GT-Rs? Ya, that's gonna happen. The new Miata's official name is MX-5, not MX-5 Miata as it has been in the past. But you know what, people still call it the Miata. Hell, even Mazda executives themselves call it the Miata from time to time, and have publicly stated they don't mind if people call it the Miata. And it's all because they don't want to deny the cars heritage, and I highly doubt Nissan wants to deny the heritage of it's fastest, most famous and most historic model. It'd be like Chevy calling the C6 Z06 simply Z06, with no Corvette in the official title, and expecting us to believe there's no connection between it and the Corvette. No offense, but your aguement is simply idiotic.

ZardozAnd the rest of the world's markets, as well.
McLaren F1GTR
The Skyline and GT-R have split, this GT-R being nothing Skyline.
BlazinXtremeThe Z06 is an awesome cars not matter how you look at it, but in anywhere else except American and possibly Canada you can get the same kind of performance but cheaper.
But anyways I guess you could say that the Skyline is like the new GTO, decent car but all that's left it the name
I've read a single report saying that, however it was a pretty old report and it goes directly against Nissan's statements that the Skyline badge will live on in more luxury based cars and the GT-R has broken off into a different model range, and thats been coming from Nissan for the last few years, not just a single unconfirmed report, they're confirmed statements.VIPERGTSR01I have read that the new GTR is actually modified directly from the yet unreleased
V36 Skyline. By the time the GTR is here the V36 will be also.

Ghost C"The GT-R wouldn't need twin-turbos, all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, and big intercoolers if it wasn't a heavy-ass piece of pork to begin with. And the feds ain't got nothing to do with it: Nissan never sent us the GT-R because out of the 12 people in America who'd actually spend 911 Turbo money on an outdated-looking Japanese coupe, six are in jail at any given time."
I never said it couldn't based on the Skyline like share the chassis ect, but overall it's a different model lineup to the Skyline now whereas in the past the GT-R has been the performance flagship of the Skyline range, it's no longer part of that range anymore.VIPERGTSR01Doesnt mean the GTR cant be based off the Skyline, the Skyline name was probably dropped so they could modify the looks how they want instead of Skyline constraints (eg more than just spoilers, wings etc) they can now do what ever they want with it like cut the roof line and anything else they want. Underneath the parts most people would never see is probably Skyline and FM platform parts instead of making a new car from scratch which would make the GTR very expensive and I think thats somthing they want to keep away from.
I didnt mean that the V36 will look the same but more tame, I meant the bits you dont see will most likely be shared.

skylineGTR_guyNissan says the new car will have its own body, not one derived from a production sedan range (Skyline) as before.

rollaznWhy does every single thread made about skylines - have to turn into some chaotic topic? Do anyone notice this as well? Another fact - almost all GTR thread involves the Corvette Z06. It's getting old.![]()
EbiggsI've read here and there that it will have a "7 speed CVT". First off, I thought that CVTs were pretty fragile, thus not being used in 450hp cars...Before someone says "CVTs don't have gears you noob!", I'll make the assumption that those "speeds" basically set the maximum gear ratio for that "gear". I was driving it in GT4 today and it accelerates like an automatic (no gas but will go about 8mph anyway). I don't think PD created it as a CVT though. The RPM doesn't stay stuck to the redline like the Prius or something would, it acts like normal gears. The shifts are instantaneous though.
As for horsepower, www.gtrproto.com did say that it would be powered by a 450 horsepower turbocharged VQ35. I do like the looks, besides the sharp angle at the top of the windshield. The sides look quite a bit like an R34, the front bares no resemblance, and the taillights are the same basic style as the R31-34s.
I don't want to say anything about the Z06, but I think the Sky-...err.."GT-R" will beat it in 0-60 and the quarter mile, just because of the AWD and the transmission.
OnikazeHow much will the GT-R weigh?
Didn't see it on the site anywhere.
