OK, so it already came out on another console, already. Who cares? It will feature new items, action, levels and game play. I'm going to pick this one up, despite hating the series since the horrible Resident Evil: Code Veronica X.

PSM Magazine gave it a ten out of ten score comparing it closely to MGS3: Snake Eater. We all know that game was a fantastic hit for Konami. What sold me on this title was the new controls, the strategy of game play. You no longer need to run from creatures. You stay and fight to clear the level. That's what I always hated about the series, but I stayed and fought, anyway. Except in RE:CVX, where it was too hard to stay and fight sometimes, due to the lack of weapons or ammo. The description of the game made me smile and hope that Capcom had finally done this series right.

What also clinched the sale was the features of RE4. Widescreen and progressive output. Nice!

Anyone planning on picking this one up on Tuesday?

You know, I was told to play this game like a year ago. I still haven't played it. :D I think there's a good chance GameCube version will lower the price, into greatest hits now though.

I'd try it out - when it goes down to $19.99. I'm too cheap to buy it at 50 buck.

It does look good though.

Actually, they listed this one at $39.99, and not $49.99. Sounds like a decent price to pay for what appears to be a great title.

Speaking of cheap, Gt4 and Winning Eleven 8I (and will be We9I) are the only two game that I bought as soon as they were released. Other games, I always wait for them to become "greatest hit" ..he he. And I always read several reviews before buying any game...man, I am cheap..lol

I've been looking forward to this for a while, but there are so many good games coming out these months:

God of war (ok not this month, but still need it)
Civ4
The warriors
Shadow of the colossus
Black

And more to keep me busy.

Wasn't Konami also responsible for MGS3?

He meant MGS3. RE4 is a Capcom game.

And smellysocks, I don´t think Black is coming out this year.

But yeah, there´s a lot of great games coming out now. I want:

Jak X, SSX On Tour, Shadow Of The Colossus and WRC Rally Evolved. I may also get Socom 3 and PES5 to play online.

Yeah, that's why I said it. I was making the point that PSM gave that game a 10 out of 10, like with MGS3, which is something that they don't do often. Konami makes MGS3, and Capcom makes RE4. I never stated it, but the proof is in the link I provided. I wanted to make it clear that Capcom should make a nice profit with this title, much like Konami made with MGS3. I guess it wasn't clear enough. Sorry for the confusion.

I see...I don't keep track of developers and makers to much, so I mixed them up.

Over here it comes it priced 60 euros. I will definitely play the game some time, but 60 bucks is too much for any game to me lately... well, except for the next Gran Turismo.

Well, I bought it. I should have waited until it went on sale, though. It's still a good tiltle, and so far, it's better than any other RE game, (except for the first one, because I loved that one a lot), so it's still a good purchase.

The movements have improved, but they're still the same, which is bad. I guess they think people are used to the way the controls are, and don't want to change them. I can see why that is... I hate not being able to kick somebody when I want, though. That was really stupid. You need to shoot them, or whatever, and wait for a prompt. Stupid idea, if you ask me. There's also push button puzzle games a la God of War, but they don't seem to fit in with this game, IMO. Get used to idea of getting killed, because it happens a lot. Aiming takes forever, and his aim isn't that steady. Switching weapons is a pain in the ass! The menus take getting used to, also.

Starting out is really hard for me, because of the controls. Everytime I need to shoot something in a hurry, I always push the square button to fire, instead of the X button. I guess I'm used to MGS games too much. It's taking me a while to get use to, but I'm getting there.

Upgrading you firearms is a must. I love the new aspect. It gives ya something to work for. I really like the idea. But, starting out is soooo damn hard with just the pistol. Dealing with more than two badies is almost impossible, so you still need to run, I'm affraid. Something I've always hated about RE games. I highlt suggest looking for the shotgun near the beginning of the game, and then buying the .223 rifle at your first opportunity. Upgrading the pistol, is a must, also. Sell itmes to get what you need. That makes finding hidden treasures a huge must.

That's it for now. Anybody else playing it?

Oh, the graphics are great. So much better than CVX. Widescreen and progressive output are to credit for that.

So far, I give it a 8.5 out of ten. But then, I'm very damn picky.

EDIT: Don't upgrade your pistol, it's a waste. If you get all Blue medallions, actually, just 10 are needed, you get a Punisher pistol for free! Upgrade that pistol instead. After you gell all BM, and you first meet the Merchant, sell him your pistol first, then take his free Punisher. If you buy the Punisher first, you'll end up given him your pistol for free, instead of selling it to him and making a few bucks.

Sounds good. 👍
Can I ask, is that anamorphic widescreen? Does it fit the screen well? And is it 480p progressive scan?

Thanks!

Yeah, the screen gets filled up. It's just like the widescreen mode in GT3 and GT4. All you need to do once you select widescreen option is adjust your TV set to "Full" mode, or whatever yours is. It's 480p, or 540p, depending where you live.

Okay, but you forgot the most important aspect of the game. Is it scary? I want it scary!

Yeah, you get creeped out a lot, compared to CVX. That game wasnt't that scarry. This one has some moments, but there are times when you think it wasn't as scarrry as it was supposed to be.

The music, and the sounds are haunting, and it really creeps you out. You never know what's going to happen. Oh, try shooting the lake when you get to it. Enough said. Several times, at least four times so far and I'm on level 2-2, the enemy swarms you, and it's preety damn tough to kill them off without getting caught. Again, this leaves me more frustrated than scared, but it works.

There are times when you have to run. I hate that, but nothing I can do about it. Right now, I'm a bit stuck. The Gigante's are hard to beat because you need to upgrade the shotgun to at least level three firepower, and you never have enough ammo for it to face him. Beating him is easy, if you have enough shotgun ammo.

FatAssBR
Cool. Are you playing it in Normal Mode?
Yeah, because that's all there is! I hear you can select "extreme mode" or something like that, after you complete it once.

Oh! No "Easy" mode for wimps like me!? :dopey:
Seriously I wonder how tricky it will get. Although in the past Resi games always flumoxed me with some of their puzzles as opposed to the fighting. Though a few bosses gave me a hard time!

I think there is an Easy Mode, I saw some guying saying in another forum he started with a shotgun.

I really want to get this, but i just bought Pro Evo 5 (woo!) and i'm getting a new computer soon, so i might have to wait a while.

Are you playing it online? There's a lot of people here in Brazil replacing WE9 for PES5 because of online mode, my friends say it's very good.

I just finished the game, and and I don't know how I missed some of those jewels I needed. I'm playing it through for the second time, and I bought a tressure map. I should've bought that the first time I played through RE4. It more than makes up the cost of buying it. But, too bad it wont show me where cats eyes, spinels, etc. are on the map.

OK, for the experts with experience, what is the best 9mm pistol? I have the Punisher full up, and it penetrates like mad. I just move until I line up the badies in a row, and fire through all of them. A great way to save standard 9mm ammo! But which 9mm is the best? Has anyone here tried them all?

I also have the Killer7 full up, the Striker full up and the semi-automatic rifle full up. The Killer7 can take down a El Gigante in one shot. Well, bring it down to it's knee so you can jump on it and kill the plagas. The s-a rifle will kill a Ganados in one shot. I also have the Striker full up, and that thing clears three, four people at a time, if they're close together. The closer they are, the more damage it does. I kill two Ganados in one shot all the time.

I used the "shoot above the knee" method on Krauser. It's the only way to bring him down! Actually, somebody told me to knife him in the leg, to save on much needed ammo, then shoot him once in the head with the Broken Butterfly or the Killer7 when he goes down.

The Saddler boss battle was super easy. Toss a frag grenade, wait for his eye to drop, and shoot the eye with the Killer7. I was done in just four moves, plus the grenade launcher from Ada. It took no more than two minutes. The Salazaar boss battle was even quicker, thanks to the Killer7 and the Striker. He never got a chance to move or make a strike. Shoot his roaming eye, wait for him to open up, and shoot his body/head with the Broken Butterfly until he closes up. Three times is all it took.

Oh, if it's late enough in the game, and you don't have enough ammo, you should have purchased the Striker from the Merchant. He gives you 100 rounds of shotgun ammo when you max it out, and that 100 rounds of powerful shotgun ammo is a God send!

I noticed that the GC version has a Thermal scope for rifles. I bought the s-a rifle scope, and I don't have thermal view. Is it for the standard rifle only on the PS2 or GC? Or, am I missing something?

Awesome game, BTW. At times, it really can be stressful! Though, I think it could have seemed a little "fresher" if they didn't have so many levels. Doublebacking and triplebacking to areas I've already been wasn't any fun, and a bit tedious, but the game is still great.
