I can't help but feel that I'm a part of the problem. :odd:


I think the amount of SPAM that is dished out is starting to get a little excessive though. I at times might have something constructive to add to a thread, but more than likely, I don't. Hmm...yeah.

Well if no one knows what your talking about, I honestly can't think of why it would be offensive to anyone, sexual or not, but then the question arises, why even post it if no one knows what it means, for all intense and purposes, it is spam.

What good is RTFD if no one knows what it means.

BTW - I like your dictionary better than mine. Aparently, entendre by itself isn't a word unless you have double in front of it.

I use the same dictionary as you. I just searched google for 'double entendre' when I realized 'entendre' wasn't in the dictionary.

You can figure out a double entendre when they are pretty obvious.
 
No, the entire topic of sex is not taboo. A good joke is a good joke even if it is a little risquee. But let's make a rule of thumb - if you wouldn't say it to your parents, don't say it here.

There is absolutely no reason to call people gay, fag, or any of the other words that got use a few pages back in the so-called "Uplifting thread". It won't be tolerated, nor will discussions like the oral sex etc. that occurred in the "Britney" thread. We try to have a 3-strike rule before people are banned, but personally I plan on taking foul language and insults as a serious offense, and act as each case dictates.

On the subject of proper grammar/spelling/etc, I do try to keep an open mind. We don't all speak English natively, and even those of us who do are not all Oxford scholars. But there's a difference between be a weak speller and being 1 of dese la z ppl who think dis iz coo. I don't want to abuse authority, but don't expect me to ignore posts like "u ppl r all import haterz" any longer.

I urge everybody to pitch in. There's been a lot of good response in this thread. It really doesn't take much effort. And on top of that, it honestly won't hurt anybody to sound intelligent.

Excellent rule! I can't anyways because my parents are pretty nosy, but maybe some people will take his to heart.

Indeed, that was clearly said. I really hope we enforce a stricter posting rule. Grammatical one. It would make posts ALOT easier to understand.

Amen! Those people are the worst and make the entire community look bad. I'll try and remember my grammar and punctuation marks. I'll try to keep the spam to a minimal level. Am I guilty of that? I try not to be but tell me if I do. Whenever I see a thread like the Britany Spears one I don't even bother telling the person how stupid they are. I find that if you ignore them it works best. As for the cursing issue, what do you consider a curse word? Is that any word that's * ed out? or are words like the s version of poo poo ok? or the c version for that matter?

Also is there any way to weed out the users who have only made 1 post in the last couple of months? that would make searching for users and the top posters more accurate. I mean if they haven't posted 1 thing in the last 3 months I don't think they are a very big asset to the community and thus should be deleted. This would also free up screen names for new members who want them.
 
Neon and Giles, well said. Lately what I have been seeing is myself skipping over 75% of threads for the fact of no content in them. Now I know I have had my own issues at one point or another, but no one gets along 100% of the time. The only thing that people can do is respect one another.

Jordan, we appreciate GTP, some of us probably more then you would ever know, maybe not I am unsure. I think the lack of intellegence has gone drastically down the tubes lately. Personnally I miss the well thought out threads when actual evidence is used to support people's theories on anything and everything.

My paragraph structure is not the greatest, but that is what I do mean with the people I have been discussing with lately. T13R and M5Power are two people that lately I have been talking a lot to over car issues and new cars coming out. I feel conversations with them are great. There is always going to be people who don't know how to post in a forum no matter where you go. That is the reason we have moderators. Lately, the threads I have been viewing are actually pretty good. I still miss people providing evidence for backing their opinions and views, but hey you can't always get what you want. :D

Heh, you know what is funny? I have sentence fragments in just about every single one of my posts and I complain about poor grammar. Heh, right?
 
Err, post edited for being completely off-topic. I've noticed a lot of threads just turn into chat rooms like this one has.

Shall we strictly enforce the terms of the AUP on you?

I personally think that most mods here don't strictly enforce the rules because we all want to relax here and have fun. There's no fun in telling people to fix everything they do wrong here over and over again. I for one, haven't even read all the way through the AUP(well, I haven't looked through it since I registered here...), but I know what's expected around here and I do it the best I can.
 
I didn't even read the AUP untill about a month ago. I saw what the threads were like & it seemed like common sense to me. Not that I'm the ideal model of it.
 
I've never even glanced at the AUP. I seem to be doing okay. Of course, I have seen the occasional snippet quoted here and there...
