Hey All,

I have decided to restart GT4 but I have a plan this time.

The plan is:

I am only allowed to buy one car, and one car only. I am allowed to do any Mods to the car that I wish.

To use any other car I have to win them, now I know that you have a to purchase some cars to finish the game but i'll try get as far as I can without doing so.

I am yet to decide whether I should be allowed to Mod prize cars. So I want your views on that.

I also want to know what Car I should first Purchase? The car has to be able to enter a few events, and it also would be nice if with a few mods to it I can ever enter the slightly higher difficulty events.

So if I can get views from the public about the 2 questions asked it would be greatly appreciated.

I might start my new game tonight but i'll only be doing licences or missions.

Like the idea.

To work it out you should make a note of the requirements of any restrictive series and then work back from there. E.G. in professional hall you've got over 493bhp for Supercars, shorter than 4300mm (I think) for the compact car series, various drives for FF, FR and induction for Turbo/NA.

How many of the cars you get from special conditions would be suitable for these? What about licence test completion, mission hall? It might just be doable.

If possible, stick to keeping the cars stock or no power mods. :)

I'd go with the truck suggestion.

With that you should be able to get a long way into the game without buying another car. The downside is you will find yourself in some 1pt races - I've been doing something similar up until fairly recently, but my aim was more about minimum spend in order to get the black LM cars. The 8 cars you'll get from silver on the first 4 licenses are more than enough to win lots of races, getting you more prize cars - and on you go.

I used Mr.Slow's "scrooge" threads for inspiration - there's some great info there 👍

Why don't you buy the cheapest car you can buy from the start.

You don't have to buy a car at the start, just win them in licences or missions. See how far you get with these cars then see what you need to buy.
I bet you end up buying a truck.

...good luck completing all the manufacturer races then......

something like this was possible in GT3 (only had to buy 2 cars) - but I'm pretty confident that you'll run into several roadblocks trying it in GT4.

ya, if nothing else it will be interesting to see how far you can actually get in this manner. It will be incredibly difficult to make much progress if you choose not to mod your prize cars though.

Personally, I'd recommend golding all the licenses and completing the missions first - as you have set out to do. Then begin working at the races with the cars you get from that. You'll get something for all the drivetrain races, some classic races, and compact type races. The missions will give you some quick cars for later stages.

I recently stated over, and honestly don't worry about buying a car for a while, you can do a lot with the cars you win, I siilvered all liscences but the super, which i got bronze on, but this alone gives you a huge start on the game, don't worry about buying a car till you have to.

I don't know if i would stic to buyign one car, but stick to buying as few cars as possible. I know a list has been posted around here somewhere of the only cars you would need to buy, I think that would be a better more realistic goal

Or see how far you can get buyign one car

then how far you can get with buyign 5 cars and so on

Also as for modifiying cars, you shouldn't have to do a whole lot. Save it for the few cars that need a little help when you don't have a better alternative.

I even used the mercury cougar stock on some of the american races, i thought it would need a trans to help out the gears some, but it really wasn't needed so far. I've started a spreadsheet though to track how much money i've spend int he game and what on to go back and see what i spent it on.

I say you do the licenses, use the cars you win in the licenses for a few races to earn money, then go buy your car you want, because then you aren't limiting yourself to a 10,000 credit car for race upon race. This way, you can go get yourself something that will handle lots of different types of races.

Buy a truck and a car - you have to have a truck, there is no way around it and they're not really cars anyway. But there are also a lot of races to be won with a truck and so many prize cars too, if you are to get only one get the truck.

ok, just about to start.

I'll try do all licences and Missions first then get as far as I can with the cars I won.

I won't try any guides or anything, then I can try for myself, anf see how far I can go. I will also probably do a write up about for you all to read :)

Gran Turismo 4

Firstly I will tackle the licenses; I will be doing this casually, so I might fail from time to time.

National B:

1. Gold, 0’10.097.
2. Silver 0’11.218.
3. Silver 0’31.317.
4. Bronze 0’30.644. Silver 0’30.396.
5. Silver 1’28.906.
6. Silver 0’23.077
7. Silver 0’26.839.
8. Bronze 0’15.695. Gold 0’15.375.

Coffee Break 1: Silver 0’11.878

9. Silver 0’12.882.
10. Silver 2’16.552.
11. Bronze 0’18.913. Silver 0’17.993.
12. Bronze 0’18.449. Silver 0’17.643.
13. Silver 0’22.959.
14. Bronze 0’18.951. Silver 0’18.526.
15. Silver 2’19.545.
16. Bronze 0’25.051. Silver 0’24.027.

Bronze Car: VW Lupo 1.4 ’02.
Silver Car: Mazda Kusabi ‘03

Well got NB license done, I have the cars for both Bronze and Silver. I am not exactly a master at this game but I’ll try to get all Gold’s, but I’ll doubt I could do it.

National A:

1. Silver 0’30.941.
2. Silver 0’28.081.
3. Silver 0’12.231.
4. Bronze 0’22.743. Silver 0’22.406.
5. Silver 1’31.428.
6. Silver 0’31.281.
7. Gold 0’17.183.
8. Silver 0’16.180.

Coffee Break 2: Bronze 0’32.100.

9. Silver 0’17.574.
10. Silver 2’48.958.
11. Silver 0’31.014.
12. Silver 0’30.021.
13. Silver 0’24.240.
14. Silver 0’32.826.
15. Silver 2’05.665.
16. Silver 0’55.868.

Bronze Car: Pontiac Sunfire GXP Concept
Silver Car: Honda DUALNOTE ‘01

Ok National A done, got both Bronze and Silver Cars.

So I now have 4 Cars in my Garage, I hate the licenses so I am not in no hurry to do them.

i sugest you do the Special Condition races erly on to add more cars to your garage, and there not hard to do just takes a few hours...
and your doing great keep this stuff up.

Ok guys, got the International A & B licenses done but only got the Bronze Cars from both. I can complete the licenses but I struggle to do better than Bronze on some of them.

I will start the missions soon, I might leave the Special license for a while as I won't need it for ages.

I would like to get the Silver Prize car for International B though, Mazda RX-8 Concept.

Eastley, I know you want to do it on your own but since I have done it already i must tell you the following:

1. You can do ALL races except for the roadster endurance, truck and manufacturer races with prize cars. So there is not need to buy a car at the beginning.
2. You can choose to buy as few as 30 cars (list is posted somewhere) or a few more (about 5) if you want to keep the mods to a minimum.
3. You can get to 50% easily without modding or buying any cars if you are willing to do endurance races and dirt rallying.
4. You can get to 62% without buying a car BUT you will be modding some prize cars heavily.
5. You can get to 75% spending only $200k credits if you put your mind to it (and leave the manufacturer races till the end)
6. You can get 100% spending only 2,027,000 credits if you put your mind to it. There are a couple of manufacturer races that will force you to buy $100k+ cars like the Shelby, Merc SL , Aston Martin and Saleen (that one alone is $400k+).

As far as advise (unsolicited):
1. You should get silver in all licenses except the S license where you only need bronze. This is because the Silver prize cars will make your life much easier.
2. Print yourself a copy of all the race series (and their corresponding prize cars). Use the gtplanet car database for working out which cars you could use in a particular series. It is easier than trying to view the info about the cars in the garage.
3. Print yourself the list of series and their requirements. Valuable tool for planning.
4. You'll get to a point where you'll feel like you are doing too many 1pt races. Don't worry about it, you will have plenty of 100+ pt races if you stick to not modding the prize cars. (I finished the game with 30k A-spec points)

Finally, I would love it if you did it all on A-spec (if you are doing a writeup). I didn't and now regret it. Here is my write up if you are interested. I recommend you read part V first if saving on mods is of most importance to you.

Thanks a million, i'll read all that stuff.

I can get silver in all the licenses except for IB and IA, I only have test number 15 to go in the IB license, I can't get it for the life of me. About 3-4 seconds is the closest I have come to silver.

If you are going to restart then you really should GOLD the licences. You'll get more cars and hone your skills; skills you may well need later on.

I have just started a new game but I am not sure how far I am going to go, but with the family wanting to get me a game or two for Xmas which is stopping me buying, I'll just see how it goes. No offence but I need a rest from GT4.

After 65 days I have 55 golds and 9 cars, will do the Missions again afterwards. Not meaning to brag but Golding is not that difficult for many of these licences, especially the shorter ones. You owe it to yourself to really go for gold.

Start whith the cars you get from the licenses tests.Try to get at least all silver so you will get a DN-X and it will work for long.
After that go to the special conditions and you will get many good cars one of them is the Lancer evolution and the subaru impreza,Both of them are good in special conditions and normal races.

I started my game again too.First i was at 92% completed and my brother played my game and lost one race.So i started again and now i am with 95.7% completed
Trust me the decision to start all over again can only make you a better driver

For IB-15 (like all one lap tests). Note down the demo splits and finish time (for leeway). Just focus on each split. With IB-15 the first two splits are fairly easy (hint:stay in 3rd through the narrow bits btw T1 and T2). Key to last split is getting up the hill well - brake immediately after T2 split and get a clean (no wheelspin!) exit from the hairpin. Try to stay as close as possible to the pace car throughout.

Regardless of what people say, Some people can be brilliant at GT4 nd some can be average. Golding all the licences is near to impossible for me, I just ain't that good at the game.

On my first save game I am at 99.8%, only have the last mission to go. Tried 100's of times to do it but I can't.

That I understand, I had a tough time with GT3 but I used dedication, effort and did lots of research to get there. I have never regretted it, it added so much to my gameplay in GT3 and then GTC, GT4P and GT4, and in time it will in GT5. A lot of these skills also help with other driving games.

Steven

It'll be a struggle for me to just get the Super License again, but I managed once so I can do it again.

Ditto here - but it is worth the effort on the silvers to get that RX8. If I remember correctly, it puts you on a run of a good few races with some cracking prize cars. I still haven't bothered with the special license (at 53-ish % at the moment), but now that I've got the Extreme hall open I guess I need to bite the bullet and do it :nervous:

I too found the silver/gold licenses difficult at the beggining and did only as little as needed to get through the game using as little money as possible. I didn't even try to get a single silver on the S license.

But after I finished the game I went back and started working on the golds. I am now at 76 Golds 3 Silver 1 Bronze. The key is being able to drive the line and not to blindly try to beat the time (which is what I was doing before). I also think that having got to 100% I am so much more familiar with the tracks making it a lot easier to get gold.

As for what people were saying about buying a truck: Isn't the Infiniti FX45 Concept a prize for one of the rallies? Does it count as a truck? If so, that might help with what vehicle to buy.
