My ps3 was stolen from my house 2 weeks ago. I am about ready to go buy a new ps3 and I am not sure how to restore my GT5 data.

First, will I be able to get my old PSN name on the new console?

I know I backed up my GT5 Save on a External HDD, some time in the last 6 months.

I know I will have to update GT5 has soon has i put it in, then do I just copy my old save data on to the system and go like nothing happened? I will probably loose some of the cars I had right? (The black gamestop Nascar)

any tips?

Thanks

first, just log in with your credentials and your info, trohpeys etc etc will transfer over after syncing. Next make sure your ps3 system data is up to date. Next load up gt5, and update the game. let it finish then start the game. after just setting up the game exit out. To make sure you get the special DLC car from gamestop, go to PS Store, and find the files and download them again. after download is complete. hook up your HDD and transfer your data over and overwrite that gt5 data that you just started. boot gt5 and now everything should be set.

P.S Also signup for PS+ if u can. It is a great help that the ps3 can upload the save data overnight to the cloud. It makes it easier when patches are released for games the ps3 will download those automatically as well.

I have no tips but just want to say I'm really sorry for you, that would p*** me a lot. In MOST of the cases the thief is someone you know...

yeah it sucks, Honestly wish GT5 would have been in the system at the time. So I could just buy the new Grand Turismo XL version of the game. Instead, madden 12 was in at the time. The thief left my HDMI and veritical stand, but managed to find the component cables that was buried under lots of papers on my dresser. Which also happened to still be connected to my headset adapter. Also found all three controllers which were in different spots of my room.

thanks yzf mike for the tips, i will defintely follow your advice when I get a new system

Have you ever let your friends play with your PS3 in your room?
(If not disregard the below comment)
By the sounds of things, this so called "thief" knows the whereabouts of your hardware?
Either that or he was very thorough in the search..hmmmm
Something smells fishy to me tbh..:odd:

Did you have a Playstation Plus Subscription at the time of your last Gran Turismo 5 save? If you did, you had the option to copy your game save files to an online storage with Playstation Plus.

my friend got the guy arrested who stole his ps3, he had suspicions it was a guy he let in at his party , he used my ps3 and we saw the guy was on *his account was logged in* , he called sony and the police, *sony agreed too reveal the ip "by law its mandatory if requested by authorities" of the last log in, it was the guy's house and he got his system back and a bunch of stolen goods

I gave the serial number (I happened to still have my box) of my ps3 to the authorities. I told them it may be able to be tracked if it is ever connected to the net. Weather they will bother with this or not is a mystery.

Now, I had my buddy check and my PSN has not been online way before it was stolen. If I get a new ps3 and log in with my old account will this be flagged if someone did in fact contact sony?

I cant imagine the police did contact sony, but I am just trying to avoid more problems, although it would be easy enough to explain.

First thing I would do is visit the PSN via computer, login, and change your password as soon as possible. Anything you redeemed codes for, or purchased through the PSN will be available for you to download. You can load your last gamesave from your external HD into your new PS3. Unfortunately any progress since that save will have been lost. I'd also contact Sony and ask them to disable that PS3 from your allowed accounts, as it'll cut into your allotted 5.
Sorry to hear about your luck, all thieves deserve to rot in hell infinitely.
