Those shots look quite nice, but still lacking so much depth in the reflections and textures... I really hope they turn it arround in the graphics department in 2013!

Oh you mean lacking depth the same way iRacing is? :sly:

I agree though, I need to feel like I'm watching a race, not looking at a video game. Reflections and textures can do a lot to make that successful or a complete failure. Right now I guess it's somewhere in the middle.

2013 should be a great year for sim racers!

T280 is AWESOME.

News from EnduRacers on Facebook, don't read if you don't want your day ruined.

Will you guys be porting the excellent Endurance Series for rf2?
Hello, it's in our mind to maybe port our mod on a newer platform, but not before they are totally finished, not in beta stage. In addition, the name of the platform is not choosen yet, as for rFactor2 it's still far to be ready and this game still has lot of issues and domains not good enough yet for our needs.

EDIT: Nevermind, I misread it. I thought they meant that they won't be porting to rF2 until they finish the rF1 version. I feel a little better now.
I personally would rather they bring it to rF2 than AC (assuming that's their only other choice ATM). Rain, driver swaps, full night to day transitions, etc.

Yup! AC is looking like their platform of choice, quite frankly after seeing what AC is bringing to the table I'll be happy to have that awesome mod in that platform.

Nope, it's the Marussia.

That is a paid mod. There are threads at lots of sim racing forums about that mod. You can d/l the demo now, but the final mod will not be free. It's a fictional series based on DTM.

Yeah but for now it's free and that's fine for me.

Do you have something against paid mods?

I would have GLADLY paid the same amount of a full price game for the Enduracers mod in rFactor. I got enough enjoyment out of it to make it WELL worth it.

I can understand why people don't want to pay for mods. Then again, each to it's own and if I want to spend money on a mod nobody should condemn me for that. :)

People will not like it at first. But I believe eventually it'll become the norm.

The problem is that as soon as people start making money off these things, the lawyers will get involved.

...and content will dwindle down :(

It depends on the quality. If a mod is of superior quality people might want to pay for it - if it's only mediocre most people wouldn't pay for it.

I highly doubt that this mod is anywhere close to the level of Enduracer's mod. Or DRM's for that matter.

Yeah, I'm not saying it will be.

Was just saying not to automatically shun a paid mod because other mods out there are free. If people would have passed up on a $10 Enduracers mod (hypothetical) they would have missed out on some of the best sim racing of all time.

The only rFactor mods I would pay money for are HistorX, WSC 1970, and EnduRacers.
If we had to pay for tracks on the other hand, I might need to find a better job.

I didn't say anything against the mod. I just stated some facts about it.

Nothing directed at you!
It's an interesting debate. I'd like to see what some of the big time modders have to say about it.

This.

If Enduracers, HistorX et al charged for their respective mods, they would be in all sorts of legal poo-poo before you can say "Image Space Incorporated" - companies generally don't like it when you use their intellectual property without their permission and profit off said use. This is why the likes of the FIA hasn't gone all nope.avi on the various Formula One mods out there, because nobody's profiting off use of their IP.

As for my actual view on paying for mods: if I greatly enjoy a mod I'd consider donating a small amount to the mod team, but I wouldn't pay up front for a mod. If mod teams want to earn $$$ from their mods then they should have a donation button on their website, because having to pay up-front for a mod just screams "we only did this to make money, not for the fun of it or recognition". Plus the legal issues as mentioned. :p

The only advantage I can see to a paid mod is that they have total freedom from the car companies to do what they want with the mod. they can make the damage model as complete and unfettered as they want. With licensed content, the car manufacturers have the final say about the damage they allow their cars to have. That's why damage in sims sucks.

If this is just another mod, then I'll wait for a free DTM mod. If this is unique in some way (like a complete damage model) then I'd consider dropping some money for it.
