I think it would take ps3 a week to calculate that kind of thing. Of course if weed defind "accurately" more loosely...

Well Kaz himself said, "Nascar crashes will be amazing" or something like that. (And I assume that because every car runs on the same physics system that all crashes will be amazing).

Yeah you are right, there was an article when Kaz mentioned that every car uses same physics, only difference is car specs like how each car's suspension is stiff, power, torque, weight, all the rations. So if Nascar has rollover why not the 370z in full GT5? right? in FM3 street cars can rollover why not in GT5?

Some people are such sticklers for absolute reality.
What's next? Will people demand that a high speed crash result in actual death?
It's a game. Try to have fun.

Monkey house has a valid point eh... lets try to have some fun!

Did anyone own F1 champ edition? You did!.. oh ok. Now tell me having your race snuffed in the first corner isnt a little bit annoying. Realism is great, but if you're going to have race over for a roll then you kinda have to include these too...

you took a corner too hard and now you're in the gravel. sorry, but 5% of people make it back out... race over.
you catch your bumper on a tire wall, it hangs loose and could fall off any second. black flag race over.

Cant be bothered to think of more examples.. There are many and they're all joy killers. I like a challenge, but there is GT5 racing, and then theres YAAAARRRR$%%$#$GGGGG racing. Needless to say F1 champ was sold a long time ago!

Has anyone heard anything else about this?

I haven't read anything myself, but was just wondering. I was quite looking forwards to some rollovers or 2 wheel action.

Some of the last vids I have seen have had some 140mph crashes and the cars don't even hop off the floor.

Apart from one video I saw where a car completely took off and flew into the sky, looked like I glitch though on an early build.

I thought only certain cars are allowed to roll over. The others will have some invisible training wheels on to prevent them. Hopefully I'm totally wrong ( I usually am ).

I hope GT5 will have roll overs but I dought it. Plus we haven't seen anything showing a roll.

They are officially announced:

Physics
- New Physics
- Overturning of cars
- Damage
- Movable objects on the course
- The newest Hybrid cars and electric cars

EDIT: About the requeriments of Rfactor, I didn't have problems to run it in my i7 920 & GTX275

It depends on the quality of the mods, i.e. how well optimised they are, or essentially how much detail is in them. Some will run fine on the minimum specs, others may not.

By the way, am I the only one who thinks the collisions are goofy-looking? I mean, they seem so elastic...

yeah the cars look like toys and they have no weight - just about all the current PC games have that appearance when you crash and flip. I think it's because none of the games use proper "physics" but some scripts to create the effect

With the objective of the game being a "simulation" I would have to say that after you have rolled the car on a tarmac surface the chances of finishing the race should be low. However if the player has purchased the "rollcage" optional extra, the chances of them recovering and "limping" to the line should be greatly increased. Of course we should also have the "kiddy no whinge" safe option where you cannot get damage and you always come first without trying. :-)

If you do roll your car over should your race be over or should we get that FM3 solution?

I don't know what Microsoft's roll over solution is, but I think GT5's roll over solution should possibly be related to NFS's roll over solution. That's mind just my opinion.

Thats what I thought, but I haven't seem anything in any one the videos I have seen to suggest a car getting anywhere near that.

Even in some of the vids where people are deliberately driving badly to show the damage.

I hope it is in, I think it adds to the exitement when your racing online and you see someone barrel rolling across the track.

For example, I finally got some hands-on time with Gran Turismo 5, and while the controls were set up in a very arcade-like fashion that kept me from getting a feel for the game’s physics—which are purportedly more advanced than those of any game to come before—I did get to see GT5’s new damage system in full effect.

For the first time in a Gran Turismo game cars can become extensively damaged, with fenders, doors, and hoods crumpling and falling off. They can even roll over, though, due to manufacturer concerns about consumers seeing their coveted rides lying impotent on their roofs, they automatically right themselves.

Interestingly, the Polyphony Digital delegate who led me through the demo said that the only reason crash damage exists in the game is because of mountains of requests they’ve received from American gamers. The vast majority of content requests they get from European and Asian players is for more authentic cars and tracks. Only Americans, it seems, are fixated on busting up their virtual vehicles.

He also added that, according to their research, most players who want to see realistic damage—including issues that affects performance and handling—end up turning it off after just a few races. “They say, man, that’s cool, then switch it off because it makes the game too hard.”

Seems like a lot of work for a feature that ends up being used by so few people.

However, that Polyphony Digital would put such effort into something they know will be used by a niche group is likely an indication of their determination to make Gran Turismo 5 the most full-featured and authentic racing simulator to date.

My interest in this franchise, which, after the release of the disappointing Gran Turismo for PlayStation Portable, had been flagging, is officially rekindled.

^^ He said "the cars right themselves", but no one mentioned wheter it will be driveable after rolling or not. ;) Also, he was using that crappy Impreza damage build and I didn't see any rollover happening in that dozens of Tokyo + impreza videos.

I think it should be race over if you roll your car, on forza 3 all you do is press the accelerator and the car turns over (sometimes). This looks absoloutely rubbish, so i'm hoping GT doesn't make the same mistake.
