Is it just me, or do you also just hate the new Standing Starts. I usually drive the PP 750 on Suzuka. I didn't mind starting in the back of the field, with a few seconds disadvantage. Now it's just total chaos.... After turn 2 it's back to normal again, but my goodness, it looks awfull....
I think standing starts are more effective the moment somekind of damage is implemented. But untill then....... please give me back our rolling starts!!!

For now I'd like to leave you with my latest Viper Drift...

Nice drifting!

I prefer standing starts, especially after GT4's exceedingly long 'race intros'.

"Sounds like a personal problem."

Anyway, if you can't get off the line good, GT life won't be good to you. Go make some 0-400 runs with no aids. That'll teach you how to get off the line FAST.

Just for the record, I do not own GTP5 nor do I know if they have 0-400 runs. If they do, I suggest practice your starts there.

I prefer rolling starts, I've just got used to them, and havn't done any staning starts in ages.:ouch:

As you said, it can be a mess but as long as you stay out of the gravel, you can still win.👍

Feels like rolling starts (and removed qualifications) were added in GT just for preventing players beating the stupid AI so easily.

Kinda like an excuse for not making the AI any better. :irked:

I don't mind rolling ro standing starts but I hate the single file, huge gap between each opponent starts they have in GT5:P. At least make the starts like a real race, where the cars are closer and staggered. I have a feeling they've stretched the grids at the starts like that for framerate reasons, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. The races become a game of catchup as opposed to a tight battle. You can engineer arcade races so thew AI is slow enough to catch up to but fast enough to be challenge to overtake and pull away from, but the races have to be long.

Well said! I, too, would like to see staggered or side by side rolling starts. If PD would take a look at the GTR-series then they will see a much better AI pilot that they could try to model in their game.

Standing, of course. One problem though: online, especially on Suzuka and Fuji, turn 1 always becomes a huge pileup point. Without fail. I lag behind a bit and try to pass the racers who crash each other off of the track.

-> Personally, I prefer standing starts just like in my old school GT1. ;)

-> But I would think there must be an option for the player (offline) to chose whether if its standing or rolling start. It also varies by racing league (IRL, NASCAR, F1, A1GP, BTCC, etc.) if that particular race series does use either ST or RT. :)

Rolling and standing starts usually depend on the series in real life. Most recent to go to standing starts was Star Mazda. In GT games, rolling and standing starts have depended wholly on the track. It's a standing start at Grand Valley or Tokyo R246. However, it's a rolling start for places like Seattle or Apricot Hill. It should mostly be based on the series racing. A Toyota Vitz race around Test Course (GT3) was a standing start. It should depend on series and the tracks being raced to decide what configuration should be used. A negative to rolling starts is that you may be in a slower car and make it up to about 3rd or 2nd against faster cars.

I think GT5 should have one or both of the following to be effective with whatever starts come about: (1) allow for qualifying in all race series so that we may stand better chances in tougher races. Either this, or (2) if qualifying isn't allowed in single races, then at least open the prospect of random qualifying. Random qualifying can net you any kind of grid position based entirely on your car's performance vs. the pack. This is even if you have to employ your B-Spec teammate to auto-qualify the car.

I'm okay with rolling and standing starts. The real thing to be considered is bringing back qualifying to all courses and all races (those that favor pack racing).

^ Qualifying with pole position prize money, just like in GT1. I used to recall if you position 1st, you instantly get Cr10,000.

That's probably some expert level race, on B-Licence races you got about 1500-3000cr for PP, i think. Just one shot for a good starting point, that was exciting.
I want those back, too. :)

I have nothing against rolling starts, on some races it works, but on short races, when you are forced to start from the back of the pack, it sucks.

Been playing GT4 lately, and i notice all my starts where roll starts. maybe its in the game, but i just dont remember. now i know gt5p has all roll starts, but i was wondering (if gt4 doesnt have grid starts) do you hope PD brings back Grid starts?

i know its not something to complain about, in fact I dont mind the roll starts, but i would like to see grid starts also. what are your thoughts?

I like grid starts much more than rolling starts. The acceleration differences between cars is much more noticeable with grid starts.

I believe the Gran Turismo World Championship and Formula GT Championship have grid starts. I haven't played GT4 in a long time so I could be wrong.

Hate rolling starts, by the time you get on the throttle the leader is half way into the first turn. Grid starts are the way to go.

It depends of the track I think.
In GT4, there were Grid Starts on Fuji, Suzuka, El Capitan, sometimes Tokyo R246, whereas Laguna Seca, New York, Le Mans or the Nurb were Rolling Starts

I like the grid, gives me an opportunity to catch the top half of the field early oppose to roll where it may take a lap or lap and a half to catch the lead car.

I like grid starts but certain races need rolling starts, ie: Le Mans, a grid start would just be wrong
