Stupid rootkits. I go on google, type in a search, click on the link, and it directs me to a page I could care less about. On top of that I can't browse pictures anymore! What do I do?

If you really want to be sure that you got rid of 'em, you should do a complete system restore. If you don't want to do so, I recommend to register here: http://www.hijackthis-forum.de/forum.php and follow the instructions you get. Note, that this might take some time and that a cleanup can be pretty long and annoying.

What AV systems do you use and where do you think is that rootkit from?

Sounds like a DNS changer. It works by changing the ip addresses that URLs are linked to. In this case Google search links are being re-routed to spam sites or sites that could harbour more viruses/malware.

Download Malwarebytes anti-malware, it's free and is probably the best out there for clearing stuff like this that mainstream anti-viruses almost always overlook.

It's what I used when my laptop had something similar.

Although malwarebytes is the best at cleaning up nasties, I've found that the one place it falls slightly short is fixing the google redirects. ComboFix should do it though.

When in doubt, reformat. Root kits are very, very hard to clean - and the worst part is you won't know you haven't, until your backdoor'd again.

I'd back your data, wipe the drives (full format), and reinstall. Virus protection helps you not get these, but not so much after the fact (kinda like trying get get fire insurance after your house burns down).
