Ok-- I'm not going go give any spoilers (not that I've done alot yet)

but so far SA has been pretty cool but it is a bit different then III or VC-- first of all, unless I'm an idiot, you can't use your D-pad to steer CJ on the ground or in vehicles-- you have to use the left analog stick-- taking some getting used to.

First difference-- the language in the "hood" is pretty bad-- F word has been used at least 8 times in cut scenes so far.

You start of on Los Santos and it is freakin huge so finding hidden stuff is going to a chore without a guide-- there are 3 different hidden things (no packages)-- I forget what they are although one of them was "hidden clams"-- 2 of them have 50 each and 1 has 100 (so 200 hidden items to find--if I remember correctly)-- I didn't notice rampages in the stats (not that they don't exist)-- there are 70 unique jumps (I've got 1 so far) and it has broken it down into ones you have found and ones you have done.

They made the stat screen quite different--they broke it down into several categories so there are stat screens (plural)-- will help organize the SA recordbook so 👍 but distance travelled is in FEET-- I don't know why they did that...

I did go off roading on a Sanchez and that was fun just riding up and down hills and stuff-- you really get going fast down hills.

I'm not sure but if you go really fast on the PCJ-- stuff starts getting blurry-- I'm not sure if its supposed to simulate the wind on your face (drying your eyes) and I don't know if you get a helmet later--

I didn't mess around with the BMX bike too much yet.

I've only done a few intro missions so far-- nothing too hard

I'm not too fond of the map yet--it seems a little hard to see icons and stuff but they did add a cool feature to this-- you can set a guide point on the main map that will show up on your HUD map-- helps you avoid getting lost-- which is going to be a problem for a while.

I haven't listened to the radio too much yet I still haven't heard Lazlo yet--did they bring to SA??? Music has been ok so far-- hard to beat VCs--- I did hear some reference about the "austrailian war" on one station---

Anyway-- I've driven around mostly exploring so far.

Looks like this one is going to be a killer to get 100%--

Anyway-- I'd appreciate other people's general observations but remember to not post any spoilers-- this is for general discussion only--no specifics.

Thanks

Spuds

EDIT

I forgot to add, when I went to start my game my PS2 started making the oddest clicking sound and I could not get it to read any of my games or DVDs--- to make a long story short, I left and went and bought a new PS2 (the new type)--- this thing is small (extremely portable) and top loads instead of a drawer. Plays ok so far... anyway--- I've spent $220 (US) to play San Andreas so far....

This game looks so hot that I can't wait to have mine. But my mother say "You already have a lot of games". I don't know when my brother is going to buy it, but I hope that he will has soon has possible.

EDIT: This problem isn't for ALL PS2? It's just yours that was "Too old" or something?

I'm not sure what I did-- my wife brought home a DVD rental one sunday night and we watched it in the Playroom in the basement so my 2 year old kid would be occupied--when we watch DVDs down there we use the PS2 to play them-- I forget exactly what I did but after the movie was over, I think I had the DVD control screen up but had ejected the DVD--I might have hit play or something else with the drawer open-- anyway...it made a weird noise--- I didn't check it out and didn't know there was a problem until today...I wouldn't worry about your SA game eating your PS2

My old one is 2 years old-- my new one is now 4 hours old... I wasn't about ready to wait til my PS2 gets fixed-- I'll likely get it fixed and then resell it or give it away or something.

Spuds.

Thanks Spuds, glad to hear people impressions of the game without spoilers 👍. Can I ask, have they used the "N" word yet?

yeah, nice info! thanx :)
cool about that marker on the map, hmm about that analog stick (i mean that shall take a while before i get used to that too), the directional buttons do they have a function or arent they used at all?
grtz

For the "Non--D-pad" control, it's not a problem when walking. (It's very hard to walk using the D-PaD) For the driving, it depends on what the people were using in Vice City (And III too).

I use the D-Pad for all my games. It's going to take some adjustment playing GTA with the analog.

I don't really like using the D-pad, so I'll have no problem with using the analog sticks for the controls. ;)

IMO, it's somewhat easier, but then again everyone has their own preferences. :)

Exactly. When I first started playing SA, I was like, "I can't move!" I'm great with the D-Pad, but I suck at the joystick. I guess I'll have to stay up all night to get used to it! :trouble:

Let me just quickly say this about the game. IT IS BIG!

I just got the game this afternoon and I've been playing it off and on all day (I had a very busy day) and I am amazed with it so far! I'm real impressed with the BMX, it's an extremely fun vehicle! Swimming is also great, and so is the whole stats system!

👍 R*

dude....your ps2 doesnt have a problem....you could've bought a lens cleaner and saved a whole lot of money.

and they have said the N and F words at least 500 times so far.

i got the game yesterday.

What he said, but in a non racial way-- what I mean is the characters have used it in there normal talk-- not as an racial slur...the closest thing to a slur was a white character refering to a black character as "boy".

Yep the bike is cool-- you can do a stoppie and sort of stop/balance on the front wheel.

Also, the % complete is shown to 2 decimal points-- I was 2.14% done the last I checked...

Also the 2 other things you have to find besides hidden clams (5) are hidden horse shoes (50) and tags sprayed (100)-- you will find out what tags are as you play the game-- no spoilers....

Also, I didn't mess around too long with trying to adjust the controller-- you might be able to make it so you can use the pad-- in the car the d pad is used to change radio stations (up/down) and I forget what left/right does.

Also, so far I've found 4 different motor cycles-- 2 were not in VC.

Little late for a monday morning quarter back---

I don't think its a dirty lens--- its not that it can't read the disk-- it won't read it--- its makes a god awful noise and won't do anything else---just starts clicking

Its not like I'm hurting for money--- I'm not rich but lets just say I'm comfortable--I make very good money and so does my wife-- remember I'm an old F*rt :)

If its not broke (bad), I'll just give it away if I can't get a decent amount for it. I was more pissed I had to wait another hour to play San Andreas.

The new style PS2 kicks ass anyway-- it is slightly bigger then a DVD case and about twice as thick.

The game is freaking insane. I derailed a train about 20 minutes ago :)

This game is so big. I get lost trying to find things sometimes. The in game hud and map suck because you can't make out icons on them for places where you can go. It's definately a blast to play though.

Agreed-- I've been playing on a 27" TV with RCA inputs--- I'm gonna have to switch to my 36" TV with the S-Video input--- they should have used different colors for objects on the map besides green-- too much green on the map already- I'm finding it dificult to see alot of stuff on the map.

Remember to use your map target thingy-- you can put a point anywhere on your map that will show up on your HUD map-- will help you not get lost--- but I agree Los Santos is huge--- I'm guessing that the land mass in Los Santos is easily bigger then all of VC-- I like the highways.

How did you derail the train Zero?? Don't tell me if it was in a mission though.

I've hung it up for the day-- I played for about 3.5 hours-- about 2 hours exploring and the rest doing missions and stuff.

My first impression: Ridiculously gargantuan.

When I first got the game, I did the first few missions, then went exploring. San Andreas is very large. I'd say at least 3-4, possibly 5 times that of Vice City. I'm guess it will be quite a while before I know the city (state actually) as well as I know Vice. I really like the highways and hills and such. I had a little spree out to Las Venturas to check things out and..... ...no spoilers.

I'm not really thrilled about the gaster theme, but it's not that bad though once you get into it.

Tis also fun riding a Sanchez through the forest!

Hah, I just swam over to Red County to try and see Mt. Chiliad, and the 4 star wanted level pwned me, since I had about 1/6th of my health left by the time I found a motorbike!

The countryside in this game is beautiful. I've got to check out Hanky Panky point for myself tomorrow.

Damn i was gonna start a thread exactly like this!, damn work getting in the way of GTP time. Oh well hopefully no one will steal my idea of doing the Official GTA:SA Disscusion thread.

Nice info there spuds:tup: , game sounds awesome:tup: , ive read on a couple of other forums that people are'nt satisfied with the graphics but from the videos ive seen they look great, do these people have genuine points ore, are there expectations probably to high.:indiff:

Graphics are good enough for me. 👍 I'd say that they're a wee bit better than VC. With a game of this size though, you can't have the latest best graphics out there. I think Rockstar sacrificed a little better graphics for a much larger area. Good decision. 👍

I love the hills! :sly:

Yeah, the graphics in Vice were't great but I was very happy to play with those, it's about as good as most other games so yeah. I can't wait for this game!

I don't think the graphics in GTA are really an issue. If the graphics were too realistic, it wouldn't be GTA.

Oh i was'nt saying that i expected the graphics to be out of this world, but i just wanted to know if they had improved. The videos ive seen, the graphics look sharper and the animations seem majorly better.

As stated, the graphics are a little bit better then those seen in GTA Vice City.In other words it's an improvment.

What i would like to know is,how does it work when you are a passenger in a train or an airplane?Does the game switch to a cutscene or does a black screen appear and the next moment you are at your destination?Or do you actually sit in the mentioned vehicle for the duration of the trip?
