well after it finally appeared om my UCD i went on and finally bought one. Sadly to say this car really is a poor mans wannbe Mclaren F1

Hardly....2 cars designed at 2 different periods with 2 different aims.

McLaren F1 - Ultimate road car.
Saleen S7 - Race car for the street.

If you want to apply your logic however any supercar after 1993 is a poor mans McLaren and that just simply isn't the case.

The McLaren F1 aimed to be the fastest production car while the the Saleen S7 aimed to be the first American super car (worth mentioning). They’re just very different cars—noncomparable.

That actually wasn't the aim, it just turned out to be a byproduct of what they were chasing.

It's still the worlds fastest naturally aspirated car! 👍

Hells yes! Still prefer the LM, GTR or F1 w/ High Downforce Kit over the stock one tho, looks soo much better as a race car.
Its among my list of best looking racing cars at #2. I tried to make my F1 look like the LM version but it just doesn't have the feeling of a LM car. I hope there will be a update for GT5 where we get a racing version of the F1 with a cockpit, or in GT6!!! :)

1995/96 F1 GTR is a must, it won Le Mans on debut! What other reason does PD need to include it?

I was thinking they should've used the official High Downforce Kit for the F1 '94's aero parts...

Yep they should, I just wish they could have put the soul of the car in the game, because if I don't tune it, it drives horribly. :(

I doubt PD would add it considering the '97 long base version is already in the game (as a standard and under BMW) and if they wanted it like that they'd just make the '97 Premium (although it does beg the question as to who the car would actually be under - BMW or McLaren).

So we have to settle for rough replicas of the car through the default '94 version.

Or you could get the Stealth Model, which actually is almost an F1 GTR.

Got the Stealth model, it's nowhere near the F1 GTR...1100kg vs 950 odd kg for the F1 GTR just doesn't compare. The '97 version never actually won at Le Mans (it did podium) but it's not the most remembered F1, the '95 version is. It shouldn't be that hard for PD to modify the exterior of the '94 F1, spend time on turning the interior into the racing version and give us a racing version (I'd even be happy if it were a Race Mod for the '94).

I'm just astounded such an important and historic car has been left out of the game....

Well it's probably close as you might get. Apart from the F1 '94 itself, but that's down on downforce probably and looks (and that thing costs about 1.1 mil rather than 0) :indiff:

And to think we get cars such as the Cappuccino '91 and the Swift Sport '05 which are EXACTLY THE SAME AS OTHER PREMIUMS IN THE SAME MAKE over more historic things. Although I don't mind, say, the classic Veedubs (don't shoot please), some Premiums I do admit really don't deserve their place in GT history (among let's say the gazillion Skyline GT-R's in this game :dunce: )

And the stealth although not real really does look the dogs danglies.

My favourate alltime supercar, this re-wrote the books when it was launched, and although there are now some wonderfull cars supercars today this one holds some sort of magic.

The S7 has so little downforce.... try it on the 'ring with sports hard tires (stock) it's quite hard to control if you want to be driving as aggressively with it as the McLaren F1.. in fact there's no aero adjustment possible on the stock S7. I was trying to run the 'nurb in under 7 mins with it (stock) and there's a fine line between nailing a turn and being in the wall. If these cars were to race, the S7 would be looking at the tail lights of the McLaren F1 as it holds a turn casually and shoots off to complete the rest of the track.

Not to mention coming up to Quiddelbacher Höhe you get 6 ft of air if you try to keep up with a car that has downforce.

first American super car (worth mentioning).

Viper, Corvette, Moslers

Anyway, the S7 was completely nuked in GT5.

It somehow has a front weight bias, zero downforce eventhough it's far better than the Viper ACR aerodynamically (and according to Saleen, better than FIA GT1 cars), and rear tires made of butter. The car was all wrong in GT4 and PD felt it would be OK to slap that excuse for an S7 onto GT5 as well.

The car might as well be considered a van that some guy built in his shed and put a S7 body and engine in because he couldn't afford the actual car.

I'm probably the only person in the world that likes the S7 more..

I would like to believe that, but you don’t just happen to make the world’ fastest production car. They knew what they were engineering I’m willing to bet. Even if they only said “ultimate road car.”

Those aren’t super cars. There were American super cars, but most went unheard of, and still sit that way. None really compared to the S7 anyway.

Gordon Murray was after a 4.5-5L V10 for the F1 with about 100 odd less hp, thru the fact BMW supplied such a powerful 6.1L V12 it had the grunt to push it past 240mph. Sometimes you do just so happen to make something whilst creating something else.

What's your definition of supercar? And while the S7 would beat most Vettes and Vipers easily, the faster Moslers would stand a good chance at beating it.

IIRC Mclaren aimed for a 500hp/900kg figure. Correct me If im wrong.

This is just Mclarens philosophy. Everything has to be perfect. They not only developed the back then fastest and best road car in the world, it was also good as a "daily driver" (the view from the driver seat was good, unlike most Ferraris/Lamborghinis. It was a NA engine, it didn`t have such a horrible turbo lag like a F40 or 959). Its design was also timeless, while cars like the Lamborghini Diablo or a Ferrari 512 TR look "cheap" and "outdated" by modern supercar standards, the Mclaren F1 still looks awesome, just like the F40.

Its almost the same with the current MP4-12C, eventhough it weights more (today owners have much more demands in terms of luxury). It is full of innovations and clever tricks, to cut costs (the monoque, which f.e. is genious compared to the one of the new Aventador because it doesn`t require much reengineering when the open-top version of it will be created) and still deliver great performance.
All journos etc complained about the TCS which can`t be turned off via a button, but something like that wouldn`t fit into Mclarens philosophy because a good TCS has alot of pro`s. And it also runs a bit quieter then a Gallardo LP570 or 458 Italia, while also providing the driver with a better view and great interieur. (I also think that the running costs of a MP4-12C will be much lower then a Ferrari/Lamborghini or atleast as low as a Ferrari California)

S7 ain't exactly a "poor man's" Mac F1 when it carries a 6 figure price tag...

McF1 has a 7 figure price tag. Albeit by only one figure, so let's call the S7 the 'poor rich man's McF1'. That doesn't work at all though :dunce:

The MP4-12C with that "TC never gonna die" mentality is a (great) simulaton of an arcade videogame IN REAL LIFE.
L:)L /Sarcasm.
