I'm pretty sure that the Typ1 (Beetle) will be Premium.
The Kübelwagen and the Schwimmwagen shared the same chassis with it.

Longer than you suggest there ( at least I can't see a Beetle doing this ), although a bit of a shame this unique ( and core ) aspect of the Schwimmwagen will be useless in GT5.

This one made it (I think) across the Irish Sea.

Don't know if is OT...but I've owned a Beetle convertible few years ago, but now I drive a Fiat 500R (RR aircooled too) and now I love this car!

The kubalwagon will be very conterversial.

I am split on whether i like it or not yes its history and its a good car but driving it will feel like im some nazi soldier and thats a little desturbing.

Well I've changed the title of this tread to be clearer and limit it to the 3 new additions which are Volkswagens.
I too love the 500 and its inclusion as a Premium car also isn't universally welcomed but please limit it to Volkswagens only.:)

I do remember you being a IL2 Sturmovik player which also includes a lot of Nazi planes, don't you use those planes for that reason too?
Granted the fact GT5 is offering a different context than a dedicated WW2 game but I think a lot of people here have played similar WW2 sims or shooters before and driven these types of vehicles in those games as well ( did that make them feel uncomfortable? ).
To be honest, I'm looking forward to driving these Nazi-buggy's much more than I would if they included a Willy's Jeep simply because I find the Volkswagens ( with all their flaws ) a much more interesting prospect.
Not because which side of the war they represent but purely for the way they're designed and therefore the way they drive ( and I even prefer their looks over a Willy's Jeep ).:)

The Kübel is just a ordinary military vehicle, if this would be a Willys MB nobody would care.

I hope they will add the original Beetle, premium and with a racing modification that looks like Herbie!^^

No-one seems to have a problem with being Wehrmacht(German Army) in Call of Duty World at War so I don't see why everyone should kick up such a fuss. However that is just my opinion.

It's not like you are playing a German soldier in GT5.
Like I mentioned in another thread, the whole VW brand wouldn't exist without Adolf Hitler (at least not like we know it today), so I don't see any difference between a Kübelwagen and a Golf for example. Mitsubishi made the Planes that attacked Pearl Harbor (or at least the engines) and still no one says "I won't drive a Lancer".

These are fine additions to the collection of cars.
I always liked older cars and these would make some fine competitors in races too.

Also the people seem to forget General Motors. Back then, Opel has build vehicles for the Nazi's as well and GM gained a lot of profit from this. But nobody has a problem to drive a car from a company that gained lots of money, by selling vehicles that probably killed their own landsman?

Let's keep it Volkswagen related people, or more specifically the 3 new classics we're getting in GT5 without this becoming some sort of Nazi-vehicle wishlist ( heaven forbid ).........
Here's some pictures I found of the prototypes leading up to the cars we're getting, seems an interesting trial and error trajectory Porsche took with those cars not really resembling the final ones very close.

Here's the second Kübelwagen prototype.

Here's a Schwimmwagen prototype ( which looks much bigger than the final one and looks more like the final Kübelwagen.

And does anyone else look forward to tuning and customizing the T1 Samba bus?
I do wonder, since it has a two-tone colour scheme, whether it would be possible to create one single colour or combine unrelated colours using the paint shop for example.

Analog: you never know, they may use the civilianized version of the Kubel just so us yanks will recognise it. the "civvy" version we got also used the third gen Beetle's lights.

post a pic of this bus. either way, it's one americans will recognise. and if it's the concept bus from a few years ago, the "woohoo" will echo for a year.

Edit: looked it up. it's what us yanks call a Microbus, allright. is it still gonna have 40 HP-PS/30kw?

dont be disturbed.. think of it this way.. did nazi soldiers race around the track back in the day? i think not! 💡

No, the civilian version you mentioned is a different car as I pointed out, it's a type 181 ( called or nicknamed "Thing" in the US where it was also sold ) which was also initially designed as a military vehicle ( but much later in 1968 ) but not based on the Kübelwagen we're getting in GT5.
There simply isn't a civilian version of the Typ82 Kübelwagen, it's was only used as a military vehicle as you can imagine after the war there wasn't a big market potential for a Nazi military vehicle turned into a civilian off-road vehicle.
Adding the type 181 would mean modelling another completely different car for GT5 and that just won't happen purely for the reason you gave as to be "recognised by yanks" ( your words, not mine ).

My friend had an old VW van and one time we went in an icy parking lot to do some donuts but ended up slowly driving in circle.

well, it's not long till we find out. they might do the "market specials" again like they did with GT4. who knows.

 Made me think of one occasion when I was a small kid, a mate of my dad was a Volkswagen dealer and he thought it would be nice to do a bit of promotion at a local popular motorcycle race-event.
So he called some people, including my dad who took me along, and arranged we could drive around the track between races.
We went in a convoy of 5 or 6 brand-new orange Volkswagen T3 ( the last rear-engined VW van ) pick-ups and the first one got stuck halfway round that track ( dirt track ) the others tried to pull it out unsuccesfully and eventually a tractor had to come to the rescue.
It was all in all pretty embarassing as you can imagine the loud sarcastic remarks and complete mockery that we were greeted with which was ofcourse logical to expect considering the situation and the fact it was intended to promote the T3.
Since then I've always been suspicious when people praise the improved traction capabilities of rear-engined cars.;)

Here's a TGS GT5 demo video I found of the Kübelwagen in the rain ( unfortunately no sound ).
Cockpit view ( with small wipers ) starts at around 1.28 minutes.

welp, that vid proves it's just as he said. it's the millitary original. my apologies

btw, did anyone else spot the definite hesitation in the wiper's return? now that's what I call accuracy.

I find the floaty thing (:P) kinda cool.

First thought it was a Jeep...then saw the news section and the pictures of the 3 cars.

So now we got a concept dreamed up by PD, a Red Bull hyper F1-LMP car, and now a boat on wheels.

GT5 is going to be ****ing AWESOME!

I noticed that too, although the helmets weren't accurate.;)
Apology accepted by the way but these pictures ( from the official GT5 site ) were posted on this forum before so I assumed it would've been common knowledge by now both are military vehicles, here they are.

And obviously the last one isn't a military vehicle, before someone will point that out.

-> I wonder on how well the Country Buggy fares against the other skeletal Vee-Dubs like the Thing, Kubel, & Schwim.

All those cars played a role in history ( Controversial or not ) and hence deserve to be in the game.

I had the opportunity ( I would call that a challenge ) to drive a beetle and to be honest, they're awful in each and every aspect. But lovably and cool in many ways. :D I quite like them.

My buddy let me drive his Karmann Ghia the other day. The seat belts clipped onto a big metal ring between the seats like a carnival ride or something. It was pretty fun, probably the oldest car I've ever driven.
