sasek/jamzzz969: Gran Turismo is about more than just about the racing, it's about the history of the automobile as well! they wouldn't have licenced these antiquities otherwise. besides, have you ever tried to TUNE any of these vehicles, or are you too busy trying to WIN? i imagine the bus could easily do Herbie style wheelstands if it's tweaked enough.

don't blame you on the Diablo, though. the last one I played with was during NFS2, and I wanna see what it'd do with realistic handling. maybe they can't find someone to scan it from, or it's too tied up in copyright atm even for Lambo to let it free.

.... they could have made cars that people actually want to drive premium.
To be honest, I think that working on these cars was a waste of time.

Who's to say there isn't people who want to drive these premiums? These three cars are the most exciting addition into gt5 for me and I sure as hell want to drive them in all their premium glory. Definitely not a waste of time as far as I'm concerned.

And on the topic of VW's there's still a few of my favorites I want to see included eventually

Ah the Hebmüller, the holy grail of Volkswagen enthusiasts ( and I actually prefer the later Type 34 Karmann Ghia over the Type 14 stylingwise ).
Although I welcome the opinions of those who oppose these cars or find the modelling a waste of time, as this thread is also suited to discuss these cars by those who don't like them, I don't think it's logical to suggest the Premium slots should only be filled with performance cars.

As much as I love Lamborghini ( although to be honest I don't share the enthusiasm for the Diablo ) I'd say the balance between catering for both Lamborghini and classic Volkswagen enthusiasts is fairly even.
Lamborghini already has 3 confirmed Premium cars in the game ( Murcielago, Gallardo and Miura ) and now there are also 3 classic Premium VeeDubs.

That a car is slow or isn't particularly suitable or obvious for racing around a track doesn't mean it can't be fun or isn't driven regularly by a lot of people ( as fun isn't automatically related to high performance for me ).
Maybe some, or even the vast majority, don't see the appeal or even use it more than once in GT5.
Thing is that the sort of cars the vast majority do seem to appreciate are already included in all sorts of ways.
There's always a demand for cars not featured yet, and there cannot be too many cars theoretically, and to be honest I was as surprised as anyone by the inclusion of both the Kübelwagen and the Schwimmwagen as I didn't expect these sort of cars to be considered at all, especially with the limited amount of Premium cars included.

But I'm looking forward to driving them as my taste in cars is diverse and eclectic, not saying by the way that you have to like them.
If you don't like these cars, I can imagine thinking they may seem a waste of space if you're not going to use them.
But that's GT, variety and offering the sort of cars no other game would, including the ones you and I don't like.

No i dont use german planes but that is because i like "angles fighters".
But german pilots were just obaying orders. The gastapo used Kubalwagons and they were the sick people.

Using this logic, I refuse to drive the E-Class Mercedes because Josef Fritzel drove one once. And I heard OJ used to drive a Dodge Charger, so I won't be driving that either.

Don't punish the cars for what their operators did! At the end of the day, they are both amazing pieces of engineering and integral in the history and development of modern cars and 4x4s.

Personally, I very much enjoy racing my fully-modified Kubelwagen against Fairladys and GTIs... and winning! Once you accept that the slow takeoff will drop you to last every time, it's great fun trying to keep the RPMs up and carving your way to the front!:sly:

I find the Samba bus with the Stage 1 turbo kit (and all other engine mods) very drivable and fun to drive. You have to remember to shift gears at 3500 rpm maximum (over a total range of 5000 rpm or so) and adjusting gears accordingly.

Stage 2 is too peaky for my likings and Stage 3 has got too much turbo lag, although both of them might be faster on a straight line than the Stage 1 turbo kit in the end.

I like anyway that the various turbo kits have completely different driving characteristics.

I bought my first VW Bus, a '61, in December of '69. Dead slow and basically no heater but I don't think there is car with more personality than a VW Bus. I still have dreams about it.

I've owned a fair few Aircooled Bugs in my time, most of them lowered heavily and modified.

When I saw the bus in this game, I was actually a little dissappointed as I knew some people would hate them, whereas, I think they are one of the coolest vehicles ever.

However, all of that changed when I took my bus to GT auto...

US SPEC Bumpers and Torque thruster wheels.....

OH MY GOODNESS..

Someone at Polyphony did do their homework 👍

I guess safari windows would be too much to expect.. 💡

My friend has torque thruster wheels on his 56 Oval Rag drag bug, that does 12's on the strip.. I was a bit gutted that the Bug and Ghia couldnt have the same treatment.

But, my bus is proudly sitting in my online profile with the new wheels and bumpers, of course, slammed to the max..

Nice one Polyphony 👍

I'll probably post this in the online section eventually but I was thinking it might be nice to have open days at the Nordschleife for air-cooled VWs only, with a PP ceiling to allow a little modding if people want, but basically trundle around relatively politely :)

Haven't even tried online yet though so not sure I can make it open to certain models only. Was thinking (obviously) the Wagens, Sambabus, Beetle and Karmann Ghia.

You can limit your room to certain cars only but then you have to use the cars made available to use online by PD, which are pure stock (so possibly perfect for your goal I guess).
I did create a room in the open lobby a short while ago aimed at tuned Kübel and Schwimmwagens (called rather unimaginary Kübel/Schwimmwagen to make that point clear) with a set amount of PP (the amount of a fully tuned Schwimmwagen ) but instead of the Nürburgring I selected the full Eiger course (K-route?, get those names mixed up) and Toscana, off-road courses as I thought that would be fun.
Apart from a few people who mentioned their Veedubs didn't have off-road tyres and asked if they could use other cars (which I declined) I seemed to be the only one at that time who did though...... :grumpy:

I think the Schwimmwagen should've got its own challenge in the Special Events, maybe with a bit of water-driving or river-crossing.

Yeah that could've been fun. I liked the Kubelwagen event a lot, thought the other cars running the other part of the track and taking some competitors out was a lot of fun, and proof that PD have a sense of humour :)
