I'm looking to set up another challenge but I have a slight dilema. The current league standings are as follows:

AlanG184
mhm66
Simcoeace
new_soul
jjaisli
arvore
vompatti
fingersandthumbs
kemp333
bullie77
GTP_Hun
Wnabm3
Redgate
lpb-nissan-gt-
PhanTomI
turnupdaheat
GTP_Justin
vitormazzi
plckr00
MannyMoenjack

As it stand, wnabm3 is 4 places ahead of me and I have sent him a PM to see if he is available but in his last post here he indicated he was moving to San Diego and wouldn't be participating for a while so I'll have to wait to see if he can do it.

In the meantime, while looking for an alternative I noticed that lpb-nissan-gt-r is still on the list despite the fact that he no longer has the game. So if he is removed from the list it will mean Mario is 4 places ahead of me but the word from him is that he is going on holidays and won't be available until September. What to do?

Derek, I'm leaving today but I need to return to Lisbon monday and will spend the night here so, of Biggles agrees and removes wnabm3 or lpb (or both) , we can do it monday night.

Sounds good Mario. As lpb is definately gone I'm sure we can go ahead irrespective of whether or not wnabm3 responds to my challenge.

Ok. I've adjusted the ladder, moving lbp to the bottom for the time being. I've left wnabm3 where he is for the minute. It should be possible to "move around" people on the ladder. If you can't get together with Mario before he leaves, you could try challenging Redgate.

Incidentally, the SCCRL "Results" thread should show an updated version of the ladder - I will try & regularly update the first post in this thread accordingly.

Yeah, Redgate if you're available sometime before Monday would you be up for a challenge?

Either way, whether I win or lose, I'd still be in a position to hook up with you on Monday Mario, if that's ok.

I can edit the last post in SCCRL Results thread to match the one in this thread, if you want?

Fun races last night with pickr

He offered me a fine selection of automobiles, so I opted for the 250GTO. Over the next five races.... er, I lead after the first lap for a couple of them... Another 5-0 defeat for me I fear. Congrats on a fine series of wins!

Our actual race paces weren't usually too dissimilar, as could be seen from our fastest lap times. My fastest lap was never as good as pickr's, but it was generally respectably close to it. With this speed deficit, I would have to be very consistent to win races. And this is the second area where I fell short. I didn't manage a single race where I didn't enter at least one corner with too much speed, only to be bogged down in gravel traps or smashing into barriers. In Riviera at one point I was so badly out of line that I ended up having to do a three-point turn to get going again. (In fact it turned into a five-point turn due to some over-exhuberant revving)

So, apart from the lack of speed and the lack of consistency, I think I have this game sussed...

My problem is the same one i had last time: I know the tracks quite well, but I'm not good without some indication of braking points - either a GT style flashing warning, or a racing line. Having said all that, this is proving to be a lot of fun. As the ladder settles down, and as I (hopefully) adjust to playing without the racing line, I will be looking to improve on my 0-10 record in head-to-head racing!

So, you've all been warned...

Nice review FourwheelBrow:tup:
Better luck next time.👍 Jeff II is a very fast and consistent driver,so I wouldn't feel so bad loosing to such a worthy opponent.:tup:Actually, probably after You guys raced he came and kicked me and Kemp's butt:), we had very close races with the 3 of us glued to others bumpers for several laps, very enjoyable.👍
I can understand so well how you feel without the breaking zones:indiff::guilty:
BTW what's Your PSN ID?

I had fun racing with both of you, as well as Kemp, last night. The results of my challenge with FourwheelBrow were somewhat misleading like he said. There were times when he would be on the same pace as I, until he would go off and that would pretty much be it. With a little more consistency, it could have been a different story. Thanks for the races and I'll see you guys on track.

250 GTO is a very hard car to jump into with no practice, so not surprising that you would drive off.

Could you post the results in the Results thread?

Challenge accepted, not sure i'll stop your assault on the top rungs but i'm looking forward to racing again after many battles in ssv8nc.:)

Myself and Biggles did our league match.

Car:
250 Testa Rossa

Circuits:
Virginia
Infineon Sprint (My choice)
Vallelunga
Riviera (My choice)
Spa

I scraped home for a 5-0 win. As I'd been doing a lot of GT5P lately, I was taking it easy for the first couple of laps. But when I really went for some laptimes, he kept in touch, and his best laps were just a few tenths of my ones. I think Vompatti and Henrik (The rematch!) would be a close match for Biggles.

Well, I did my best! Suggested the TR on the theory that a slower car might keep the racing closer. Nevertheless, Alan inevitably, inexorably, pulled away on every lap. I did have the novel experience of actually keeping Alan in sight for most of the races, however. :)

We were reasonably well-matched on VIR, Riviera & Vallelunga - which is to say I was only about 1 - 1.5 seconds slower a lap (not really "just a few tenths" to be honest!) - but Alan really got down to business at Spa, turning in a lap time more than 3 seconds better than my best.

Time for someone else to step up & see if they can come up with some car/track combo that will challenge the Champ.

Redgate vs turnupdaheat.........

Move along nothing to see here
5-0 to turnupdaheat in the corvette on nurb, silverstone gp, autoclub, riviera & mugello.
:ouch:

In fairness, while the result wasn't particulary close it was an enjoyable night's racing (Redgate might argue against that one ).

We first met while playing SSV8NC and from there I know how quick a driver Redgate is. I also know that he has been playing GT5p more recently and the problem is that it is very difficult to then pick up SCC and be fully competitive with someone who has been playing it more regularly.

I found it to be a big eye opener when I picked up SCC again after concentrating on SSV8NC for a couple of months and to find myself so far off my previous pace.

We'll meet again no doubt!

ps. Peter, I updated the table in the results thread but there was a slight problem in that when Alan posted the table after your last challenge his "Before" table didn't match the previous poster's "After" table. I think I have it right but perhaps you could run your eye over it.

Before posting a new before list you must always check the after list of the poster before you. And only after you checked that after list of the before poster can you post your own before List, making sure the new before, posted after the after posted before it, is exactly the same as that same after before posted.

Get it? :dopey:

Cheers Alan. There was a bit of chopping and changing towards the bottom of the table with players not being available and so on. Easliy missed when you're sitting on the top of the pile!!

Edit: That makes perfect sense Mario and Before I'm After forgetting it are you still available for the challenge tonight?

Sure Derek, only uncertainty is the hour we do it, because I won't probably be at home before 22:00.

Just a litle recap, to say that Derek won 3 (Misano, Autoclub, Virginia) -to 1 (Paul Ricard), we used the F430 Challenge (default setup) and it was a very enjoyable evening at the races.
Misano was close but there was no way I could overtake unless some serious mistake happened (and Derek didn't do any)
Paul Ricard is a track Derek clearly doesn't use off or online :D
Autoclub is a track I don't use off or online :D
Virginia was again close and fun, yet again Derek was the best all-around it.

Thanks for the races Derek, wish you all the best in your "climbing" of the ladder! :)

Cheers Mario you just beat me to the report!!

The F430 Challenge turned out to be an ideal car for this type of no practice competition as it is fast and not too evil handling!

The tracks I chose were Misano, Autoclub and Spa. Mario chose the nasty pair of Paul Ricard and Virginia!

After a 2 lap warm up race at Monza we lined up on the Grid at Misano with Mario on pole. I managed to get a better start and took a lead which I held on to till the finish. Now, that sounds very simple but it was a great race and I was always under huge pressure with Mario either stuck to my tail or alongside me for the entire race!

Next to Paul Ricard. We had set the grid to Race Position Reverse so Mario was on pole again but he seemed to get bogged down at the start and I nipped into the lead. Unfortunately for me, this lead only lasted for about half a lap as I carried too much speed into the fast sweeping right hander (Signes), went wide and Mario slipped through. From that point there was no way back for me as Mario was clearly quicker while I was struggling with the kerbs and in the end he won by just under 4 seconds.

From there it was on to Autoclub where it was my turn to dominate! From my point of view there wasn't much to report. I started on pole and got a reasonable start and there wasn't a whole lot in it until lap 2 when I noticed Mario had dropped back to about 8 seconds behind. It turned out he had picked up a 5 second penalty at the tricky chicane and that was really the end of that and I ended up crossing the line 11 or 12 seconds ahead.

We then moved on to Mario's second choice track at Virginia and this turned out to be a real ding-dong battle! The lead changed a few times and a particular highlight was when we ran side by side all the way down the bendy start/finish "straight". I had the inside line for the first corner but I braked a bit too late and, while I understeered accross Mario's bow, he took a nice tight line for the pass. A couple of corners later it was his turn to go a bit wide and I managed to squeeze by and hold on for the win.

Thanks again for a great night's racing Mario and I wish you a happy holiday!

After the splendid finale of the 355 Challenge series, may I suggest that instead of starting another round of Challenge racing (with the attendant hours of tuning & practicing) we make a concerted attempt to bring the SCC Racing League to some kind of meaningful climax before the arrival of GT5?

My idea is this:

Try to complete a few more one-on-one challenges to establish a more realistic ranking.* Then group the league into pools of 4 racers according to positions on the ladder. The 4 racers in each pool will participate in a 5 track event with the cars & tracks chosen at random by me (someone else for the pool in which I am participating).

No tuning, no practicing, no qualifying ... all racing.

If the time & interest is there, we could hold 3 or 4 different rounds, with the winner of each event moving up to the next pool & the loser moving down. My idea would be to hold one round for each "category" of car: eg. Classic,
Sports/Race, Street, Race.

* Vomaptti might consider challenging ME. ;)

I think this is a great Idea, now don't get all cocky with that one Master Mandolin wake boarder:p,although I would suggest to keep it on hold until vacations are over(not the "one on one "thing-In fact after my challenge with JJ,which we must certainly do in one of this week's nights,I expect lot's of action coming my way from obviously faster drivers who are still below me in the ladder:scared:),just the group thing-btw I vote for having only two:

*The Flying Lizards

*The slow snails

💡

Because as much as I like to race in large lobbies(something zen 'bout that as JJ once stated) the weather down here is more prone to outdoor activities, right now,if ya know what I mean:)

Well maybe I can get the ball rolling!

As Bullie is away on holidays I will throw down a challenge to Kemp. Are you on?
