2 inches -taller- than a Genesis? there goes the sportiness...

i'm constantly in touch with most supra forums (including supraforum btw) and getting bored of that car. It look so promising, but I clearly remember a press conference in 2009 in which toyota's rep said that the project was canned. But every month or so, somebody find some way to give that rumor new life (from some news source... like MSN today!)

I'd like to see it certainly and I would seriously consider getting one new but... I won't believe it until it hit showrooms

good drivetrain, relatively small size, high powerd, rwd... it's like a rx-8!
let's hope it's buyable anyway

Well, they did say the new demographic for the car is old people, CVT is no surprise in that case. A smaller model was supposed to follow but not sure what's been going on with that.

Eh...I'm not sure what to believe anymore, so we'll see what the car comes out with at the next show it's at.

Old people or any age people like a manual in a sporty car, but Asians like automatics in all their cars. I would guarantee in Europe it will not be restricted to a CVT.

Sporty? This thing is shaping up to be as sporty as a SCION Tc.

Car and Driver seemed to think that the new tC was in fact, sporty. Hard to believe, I know, especially when considering how un-sporty its predecessor was. Considering that the new car is essentially a spiritual successor to my ST204, and after being shocked by how much space is in the rear of that vehicle, I'm inclined to think its not too bad of a car. Well, aside from the so-so interior materials that are very un-Toyota.

But back on topic...

I'm not sure if I am more attracted to the Toyota or the Subaru at this point. Assuming that Subaru didn't totally mess up the styling or the performance of the vehicle, and then go on about being clever enough to call it an SVX, I'd consider buying-in. Well, as long as a manual gearbox is an option.

I'd hope to see that 5-speed as an option in the Subaru, along with AWD. Also, I think something a little more than a NA 2.0 Boxer is pretty necessary for a sporty car. The 2.5 is already pretty weak; I would hate to see what the 2.0 would be like.

I'd really only consider the NA 2.5 if the car was significantly lighter than the stock Impreza, to be honest.

Don't know if it has been Posted but

The backgrounds in the Video do remind me of something :odd:

Thats hot and I cant wait to see it in production as well as running against the genesis, rx8, miata, and s2k in best motoring challenges. So far Im gonna have to say well done tobaru.

Despite having Subaru only showing off the general shape of their version of the car, I don't know, I'm getting the feeling I'd prefer their subdued looks over the Toyota/Scion (whatever it will be in the US). Now that we are for sure getting the Subaru in the US, I'm beginning to wonder if it will be the better option.

Still, Toyota has yet to answer the $20,000 question: Will I be able to buy one for less than $20,0000?

No doubt it will be the better option if for no reason other than Toyotas constantly worsening name. While the toyota will struggle with long term value due to the recent recalls Subaru should be free and clear of the trouble. That said, I wouldnt expect much to be subdued based on the fender flares of the sexy new wrx and whatnot. In reality I dont expect to see much of a difference but then again you never know.

It's really busy looking. All the lines are conflicting and it just isn't pretty IMO. The grey paint doesn't help either. It seems to have every pep boys accessory installed from the factory like the fender vents and the big cannon exhaust pipes.

Does a street car with maybe 200hp need a diffusor?

Way overdone IMO.

I thought that was answered a few months ago or did they decide to change their minds again and make it cheaper than $23k?

Yeah I imagine even a stripper model will be a good chunk past 20k.

Way better than I expected it to look. 👍

If they went a little more conservative with the lights and the bumpers, this thing would sell like crazy. The refresh has a great shape.

Way uglier than the first one, and I read today Toyota Australia is hoping to bring it here for a price in the low $30k which is rather excellent in our market, so Americans will probably be able to buy it for $0.87.

Id say much better looking than the concept. Were it a 4 door somehow Id buy it but since the rolla xrs is a joke Imma keep my si.

Even if it can't be sold for around $20,000, this sound of the turbo Flat-4 will be worth it.

Something else I just thought of.

KITT: That other car looks irate

Knight: No Kidding! That things in full attack mode

KITT: I'm scared

Knight: Don't worry, we didn't do anything to it

KITT: You don't understand, many years ago.... I was in Japan, and there was this Celica... I just had to have her.

Knight: KITT, did you?

KITT: We didn't use a funnel

I was under the impression that they still intended to have the car start under $20K, but were batting around ideas with having the car go decidedly upmarket.

So, it may be up to Subaru to offer the affordable version in the US.

Looks quite good to be honest, but I do fancy the first concept much more than this one, it looks a little bit ricey with that wing.

If this thing is priced under 35k and built in Mexico, I might consider getting one in two years, looks pretty sharp.

UHHHHHHH CRYSTAL TAIL LIGHTS.

really, they gone way overboard this this car, its just too much.

And LED's? really?

Why cant the Japanese design this car, they would have done a much better job. This thing is beyond ugly.
